I am a bbq snob. I have been to Kansas City and eaten at some of the best places up there, and "meh"ed them. Been to Texas, LOVE their bbq down there, but this is perhaps some of the best Ive ever had. The cozy confines of the building is perhaps the only drawback. When I walked in there, I noticed the meat was served from ziploc bags. I thought this was going to be something of a cafeteria-like food. The second I tasted the brisket, it was tender, warm and moist. It really didnt need sauce, which is the signature of great bbq. The pork (which is considered the only bbq in Arkansas) was very tender and smokey, and paired stupendously with the mustard based sauce. Then the ribs. I was very impressed with the ribs, and while I dont think theyre the best Ive ever had, they are certainly not disappointing. Sides are almost as important as the meat itself. Coleslaw is one of my favorites, but it has to be done right. The slaw here looked like potato salad, but was actually delicious, with a nice texture, and a great proportion of slaw to sauce. They dont have fries, nor do they have commercial chips. They have homemade chips, which are nice, but not something I would make the trip for. Unfortunately, I didnt get to try the banana pudding (I was really full). The sauce was excellent. The Pig Trail sauce is a typical bbq sauce, with a bit of a kick. DELICIOUS! Their Froggy Bottom sauce is perhaps the best mustard-based sauce Ive ever had. I was told it was a cross between a North and South Carolina style, which was not too sweet yet not too tangy. They also added something that I cant put my finger on. Nonetheless, one of the best bbq sauces Ive had! I will be ordering some for thanksgiving. Perhaps what impressed me the most was the fact that everyone was greeted and talked to for a good amount of time. The fact that the owners were out there cooking and chatting with the customers really says something about this place. In conclusion, I think this is a fantastic place with great food, and yes, I will be back. I recommend this to everybody who wants great bbq, and I STRONGLY recommend this to out of towners- get a REAL taste of the south in your mouth.

On a recent business trip from Dallas to Memphis I had the good fortune to stop in Little Rock, AR and eat some great Bar B Q. I asked where I could find some good food near the State Capitol and was told to go to the Capitol Smokehouse & Grill on Capitol Ave. I grew up on the outskirts of Memphis and most of my adult life in Dallas, Both are know for their great Bar B Q and when I walked into the CS&G I knew I had hit pay dirt! Great food, friendly service and excellent price. If you know your Bar B Q, youll love eating at Capitol Smokehouse & Grill. Truley the best Bar B Q betweeen Dallas and Memphis! Im looking forward to my next business trip that takes me through Little Rock, or should I say "to the Capitol Smokehouse & Grill"! See you soon....

You remember whe your Granny would make lunch on Sunday for after church? Fried Chicken, mashed potatoes with that thick cream gravy, some times corn, sometimes green beans and all the fixings? Or, meat loaf, or pork chops? And always a hot cast iron pan of fresh corn bread! Well, every time I eat at the Smokehouse it takes me right back to that real, country, made with love food! I can have Sunday lunch any day and it is always the best! And, dont even get me started on the banana pudding! I travel through LR a lot (from Fayetteville) and wont miss the chance to tuck in to Candy and crews delishious food! Great service, reasonable prices, and fine dining! 5 stars! YUM!

Its always nice to go "home" for a great meal. The B-B-Q is off the chain, and the banana pudding will give you cravings for "more, more" for an eternity! The best part is seeing a smiling, familiar, and friendly face working hard to make it all come together. Candy is doing an awesome job of keeping Capital Smokehouse and the catering business going as a sole proprietor since her husband, Doug, recently made a new home in heaven. He was her partner in business and in life for 36 years and right now is smiling down on her and very proud! Keep on keeping on Candy, my friend! Youve got this!!! You and your food are well loved!!

Two things make a restaurant a place I want to go back: the food and the people. Capitol Smokehouse and Grill knock both out of the park. I have gone often and tried it all. From the bbq, to a catfish plate lunch to a burger and fries, I would order it all again. Then there are the people... And let me tell you, these folks are as good as it gets. They are kind, hospitable and the service is great. Cant wait for my next meal at Capitol Smokehouse and Grill!

Best of the BBQ places downtown. The Blue Plate special is the main option as it is really cafeteria style. Pictured is my favorite of pulled pork, potato salad, baked beans and jalapeno cornbread. Add a drink and "the crack" or banana pudding and it will $15 but the portions are huge. All the sauces are located at the very front when you walk in, Frog sauce is the way to go as it their take on Carolina sauce.

I had the best barbecue ever at Capital. I love their sweet smoky sauce and the meat was moist and smoked to perfection. Make sure that you save room, though. Their portions are pretty big but you want to make sure you leave some room for their banana pudding. Its the best stuff that I have ever put in my mouth. This is my favorite BBQ place!

I ate lunch there today and they have rearranged the interior once again. I ordered a sandwich and fries; fires were cooking and must have still been cooking when I left. I wanted fries with my sandwich not as desert. $10.87 is too much for a sandwich and tea. I going back to Whole Hog next time I want BBQ.

From out of town and wanted to try some good local bbq. I hit the jackpot. Not a fancy place. Very casual "hole in the wall" and nice people working there. I had the pulled pork sandwich. Very good, didnt even need sauce. But I recommend the pig trail sauce. And the potato salad was excellent.

I dont eat here often, but I dont know why not. The food is good, the staff members are nice and the place is fast. Today I had the meatloaf which was tasty with fried potatoes and BBQ beans (dont miss the BBQ beans, they are smoky and sweet, just like they are supposed to be). Give them a try!

Used to eat there regularly when it was Mr. Masons Pit Barbaque, BBQ, Bar-b-que. It is still just as great, but also has plate lunches. Across the street from AEDC, ASTA, and ADFA. Love this que, no better in Little Rock. Pulled pork is always juicy with no gristle or fat. Great place

If I owned a talking pig that could tap dance and do math in its head, I would give it to these people to smoke and turn into sandwiches. Without hesitation or regret. Even if that pig gave a great back massage. Really. Its that good.
