Ive been to SoSoBa several times, and the food and atmosphere is quite good, but service is always a little slow. We went recently after a large event in downtown Phoenix and while the food was as good as ever, we waited for our food for an absurd amount of time. It took 45 minutes for two appetizers to arrive and it took almost an hour for our two bowls to arrive. Thankfully, we had a very kind and attentive waitress that took half off our check and made sure our waters were topped off. She told us that there were some issues in the kitchen due to new hires, but at one point we could see our bowls finished on the counter and it still took another 10 minutes before our food arrived. I understand that they may have been overwhelmed due to the amount of people in the restaurant at the time and other circumstances, but the wait was just ridiculous.

I tried this restaurant with my family and was very dissapointed. We all ordered different dishes. I tried two appetizers and three different entrees with a kids meal. They were bland and not put together well in my opinion. They had too many items competing with each other in each dish and no main flavor. The kimchi wasnt bad and the noodles were cooked fine but it had no main taste. Bland broth, bland sauces, bland appetizers. If the owners are reading this I would suggest revamping the menu to be a bit more simplistic and not add several items to a bowl of ramen that all compete with each other. Maybe take a trip to Takamatsu and see how they put together the kimchi chigae or the udon noodles. Overall, the menu needs to be redone.

The one in Flagstaff is so much better... Real shame too. The reason the one in Flagstaff is so good is their attention to detail - the noodles agree cooked perfectly, the garnish is fresh and bountiful, and the results are heaven. At the Phoenix location, Ive been twice now, I cant figure out why, but even though the recipes are the same, its like not even the same quality. The noodles are overcooked and soggy, garnishes are missing or old and limp, and the overall flavor just doesnt have that amazing wow flavor the one in Flagstaff has.

This is our "to go" spot for a great Happy Hour in a relaxed environment. The Balls of Fire are addictive and the Mic Drop Bowl with Udon Noddles and every possible meat is one of my favorite dishes in Arizona. My wife is a Vegan and absolutely loves the S.U.V. with Soba noodles and the curry is the best around! Patio is Dog Friendly and the staff is friendly - they serve you immediately and have excellent knowledge on every menu item. Definitely a spot everyone needs to try!

Overall we were very impressed. The Mic Drop has tons of tasty types of pork but I agree with the other reviews that individually theyre each awesome but they feel disjointed and overpower the broth. Each item was great though, especially the kimchi. The noodles were cooked perfectly. The Mothra was spicy and soba cooked perfectly. Generals cauliflower was crisp and perfectly cooked. The sauce was light, flavorful and perfectly seasoned. Well be back.

The noodles, the broth, the meat, the fresh veggies, and even the fresh veggies, are all on point every time I eat here. People come to expect consistency and theyre upset when its not met. Sosoba is consistently AMAZING. I swear its as if each time is better than the last! I must have ramnesia or something! Best ramen place in the valley. Traditional styles with a local twist make each bowl incredible. I love this place. You guys are awesome.

The good: - Generous portion - Tasty Tonkotsu broth - Interesting fusion concept - Plenty of ingredients - Interesting sauces The bad: The ingredients overpowered the taste of the soup broth. Also, while it was nice to have a lot of different types of meat, the tastes were not complementary so the whole meal felt disjointed. Interesting fusion concept, but perhaps they need to rethink how to bring out the taste of the soup broth first.

Really good calamari, although they make the serving seem way larger than it really is by hiding a bunch of leaves underneath it. The Mic Drop was really good and the broth was delicious. It is very dimly lit inside the restaurant yet the street lights very brightly shine through the restaurant windows, so there is an awkward mix of blinding light and complete darkness. Free parking in the parking garage connected to SoSoBa to the north.

So, they have saki, but they didnt have any Japanese beer. Beer selection was dismal in general. Everyone with my group was generally blasé and unimpressed with what they ordered. The balls of fire were tasteless and the pasta was overcooked. My main dish was ok. Not bad, but not good either. The waitress was VERY sweet and extremely helpful. Nice atmosphere. Sat on the porch. Lovely.

Absolutely hit the spot. A BIT pricier than I normally go for, but ever penny was worth it. The smoked orange old fashioned was exactly what I wanted, and the Mic Drop was delicious. Its not "authentic" taken, whatever that means, but its great. Charred pork belly, pork ribs, ham, bacon and every other type of pork you could imagine in one yummy udon bowl! So, soooo satisfying.

Parking can be a bit difficult at times but its worth stopping by this place. I have only tried their ramen (The Mic Drop) and have to say it was quite delicious! I really reccomend stopping by for their ramen, they do a GREAT job making their ramen eggs. If you want to try Japanese whisky they have it there as well but some of the price per pour is crazy expensive.

I had the miso based Katsu (pork cutlet) ramen for lunch at a $2 off lunch special. The broth is average in flavor, the toppings are plentiful but dont seem to blend well. I understand bacon is popular but it doesnt do it for me in ramen. Give me some real char siew pork, Im sure hipsters can understand it. Do not come here expecting authentic japanese ramen.

Balls of fire were underwhelming, just fried mac and cheese with a dab of Sriracha on top, no actual spiciness from the mac and cheese which was disappointing. Had the mic drop, it was ok. Not the best, not the worst Ive ever had. Everything was just OK. ~$40 for 2 people, 2 balls of fire, 2 entrees, no drinks, after tax and tip.

I got to have the wings, which were delicious, but before our ramen came I looked down at the bench I was sitting on and a huge cockroach was running around next to me. I told our waiter and he comped the bill. We left immediately. I was very disappointed I didnt get to try the ramen, but the cockroach really put off my appetite.

Went here in need of a quick meal expecting too-salty bar style noodles. Instead, I got the best gourmet beef and soba bowl Ive ever had. In addition, when I look up at the bar, I see a huge assortment of my favorite Japanese and Asian whiskies (Yamazaki 17, Hibiki, others) and the music pretty good. Will be back.

Awesome place with great food. Tried "The Mic Drop" based off of an employee recommendation and I was blown away. The flavor was amazing and the noodles were delicious. I will definitely be back. The interior looks nice and its located in a pretty cool area of Phoenix.
