Called in an order to go 45 minutes before close. Although the restaurant was empty, they were still open for business. I was greeted with a short and frustrated attitude. Initially the ramekins inside the bag were not closed, causing the contents to spill over everything in the bag. Did not make a big deal about it, simply asked for another set of ramekins as a replacement. Got home and noticed that I received a grilled chicken sandwich, when I ordered a Monterey chicken platter. Dont see where the confusion came from considering, quite literally, I was the ONLY person in the entire restaurant when I arrived. Dont see how you can mess up the only order you have to take care of. Called back to explain the situation and was told they were closed and could not do anything about it except for offering credit for a next meal. Safe to say I will not be back to redeem the offer, nor would I recommend anyone go there at all, unless you dont mind having your order come out wrong. Mike was the manager on duty, and the one who checked me out and gave me the food. If the manager doesnt take the initiative to check the only order in the restaurant, especially a to go order, to make sure it is correct, then that should give you an idea of the incompetence of the staff at hand. Unsatisfied to say the least and a customer lost.

Our visit to El Fenix this evening was one of the poorest dining experiences ever. We were sat at a table that was not ready. It was missing silverware and it was barely wiped down. It only continued from there. Throughout our waiting we never received refills even though we requested them, our daughters meal was brought to the table 15 minutes before my wife received her meal and about 20 minutes before I got my meal. We were all served at different times and my order and my daughters order were also wrong to top it off. We were almost here 2 hours and out of that time we only spent about 20 minutes having dinner, the rest of the time we were waiting for our waiter to reappear. I also noticed that the waiter didnt listen and took part of my order to the wrong table, returned it to the kitchen and when he figured it out re-served it to me. When our food was brought out our waiter attempted to collect our appetizer plates and our daughters plate since she was served so early, however he failed to take them. We instead sat next to the tray with our dirty dishes. The only positive note was the manager on duty acknowledging and apologizing for the experience we had. Unfortunately, based on my experience we will not be returning.

Don bother. The last three times we have been there, they are WAY understaffed. We walked out last night. Took 20 minutes to get a seat. Flagged a manager after three minutes waiting on a waitress. Waitress delivered chips and hot sauce to table next to us (seated after us, we also knew them) patron told waitress we were there first. She came over with hot sauce and get our drink orders. We asked where the chips, do not have any right now. We walked. Piss poor service when you can get it. Text neighbor later, she said she wished they had left with us. Got there food before they got silverware.

My husband adores the Wednesday night Enchilada dinner. I go back and forth between their awesome fajitas that no one can come close to and their terrific Flautas/Taquitos. They make an awesome margarita! Weve been living away from Texas over a decade now. We never visit the Dallas area without going to El Fenix, and now, in a week were moving back..within 5 miles of their McKinney location. We cannot wait! Service is spot on, food is wonderful and we cant wait to come home to El Fenix!

I had been here before and recall the food being ok. However this visit was terrible. It tasted like all the sauces and even the meat for the tacos were mixed with water and extremely bland. The cheese sauce (so called queso) tasted like cheese whiz mixed with water. I did not eat even half the meal. On the bright side my waitress was attentive and took the initiative to not making me pay for the meal but was surprised that the manager did not address it directly.

Theyve been a spotlight for 5 different years in D Magazine as "The Best of Big D" and I know why. Great food, served quickly and the best service Ive had in a long time. If you go, ask for Don E. if hes working. He knew the menu backwards and forwards, was kind and served us expertly. He also know about the gluten free menu and helped my mom (who has Celiacs disease) be able to eat worry free. I want to go again and its not just because of the guacamole.

Ive been a regular at several of their locations since I was about 4 years old......thats 50 years! El Fenix invented Tex-Mex. Very good. Consistent. Recipes are what they were when I was a kid. Not a lot of the yuppie new age Tex-Mex .... which I find refreshing. Had a bad experience at their McKinney, TX location today....only bad experience I can recall.....seeing as though Ive averaged 3-4 visits a month for decades.....thats pretty darned good!

Hit & miss here. Ive sworn off twice because the chili relleno that I love has been prepared differently. Along with the fact they were out of guacamole that comes with it but offered nothing in place of it or to even tell me they didnt have it. If you are out of something, let the patron know. I would have preferred to get something different.

Wasnt thrilled. With so many choices for TexMex in the Dallas area, youd be better off elsewhere. Wait staff was fair...but not quick. I had to hunt them down for refills for drinks and our check, but was a busy lunch hour. I think Id head over to San Miguels if I were in McKinney...local family and a little more care in the experience

Waited 15 min up front for someone to get seated at 3:30 in the afternoon. Tried to seat us at a table obviously someone had already sat at. Once we sat at a table we were never greated, not chips or salsa brought to us. Decided it was going to be overall bad experience after another 10 min passed with no one in sight and left.

Just like most El Fenix locations, the food comes out quickly and HOT! We ask for Justin when we go in because he is friendly, happy and just all around a great server every time. The management has been great every time weve been. They always get the orders right. Theyre all around an excellent restaurant!
