Tonight we went to Ajisai. We read the rave reviews and decided to give it a try. The place is quite nice, small and with a busy and dark atomosphere. We were impressed by the extensive menu with very colorful and well done photos. However, my daughter spilled an entire glass of iced-water on herself just after being seated. The waitress impressed me so much I was so grateful to her. Instead of being upset for the place seating and having to clean up, she seemed so genuinely concerned for my 9 year old daughter. Trying to wipe her up and asking her over and over if she was ok. She was very gentle and kind. We left in a hurry to get back to our hotel to get my daughter changed and my husband and I were so impressed by the waitress that we returned about 45 mins later for dinner again. The waitress saw us again and asked my daughter again if she was ok now and smiled so genuinely with her. She seated us and we had the most incredible meal. My kids are not used to Japanese food but they loved it. I really cannot say enough how much we loved this place, the food, the service and definitely loved our waitress! Thank you Ajisai!!

There is nothing wrong with this place, but unfortunately it must be ranked in the sushi spectrum, in which there are truly spectacular choices. Ajisai is not Japanese, most of the staff are Korean, the sushi is good -- solid you might say. Some of the special rolls are very good, but nothing we tried was amazing. Prices are reasonable for Manhattan sushi, service is good. The location unfortunately means tourists, which may be part of the reason Ajisai doesnt shine. The sake selection is also solid. You will not be disappointed here. There are better sushi places, but most cost a lot more or require two months advance reservations. I would come again.

Great food and service, but i get mad when i see they write the tip by itself, in this way i cannot rare the service, they say by itself they are great ? I see this also in other nyc restaurant and i hate this. Im italian, usually i NEVER give a tip, and yes, if waiters and waitress has a really poor profit they should fight with its boss, not with customers.

Great food! Great service! Great price! Went in there last night as one of the last customers and we still got attended correctly. They never rushed us and the waitress was very attentive to our needs. She was also very friendly and just made the whole experience great. Will definitely be back to try out the rest of the menu! Once again..the food was great!

"Eh" fully describes my feelings about this sushi restaurant. The decor is nice and the wait staff is friendly. The sushi is really only very mediocre though. This is a place I would go back to if Im in the area and want some sushi to fill my stomach, but dont come here for any special occasion as you might end up a little disappointed.

Ajisai has a very broad and imaginative menu, with many types of dishes to choose from. I went in with three others, and each of us had a very different plate in front of us. I had a sushi combo, which was very well executed and very fresh. In addition, they had a nice selection of Japanese beers to choose from.

This is our default restaurant when we dont want to cook or try a new restaurant. Quality is pretty good for the cost. Ajisai roll and shrimp tempura roll are my favorite sushi plates. Appetizers are very fancy and tasty but expensive. They also give an orange at the end which is always delicious!

Teníamos hambre y lo encontramos de pasada. Nada extraordinario pero cumplió con el propósito. Nuestro mesero no fue muy amigable.

Great sushi. Fresh and great price. I also went to Morimoto the same week and paid a lot more. This place has same quality for toro, uni, yellowtail as well as rolls and soups are great. My new place when I come to NY and very good price for the town. Also miso black cod is great

Stumbled across this place last year. Tried it on a whim with a couple friends. Food was fantastic, atmosphere was comfortable and modern, and the price was pretty reasonable. They have some really interesting and unique special sushi rolls -- definitely try some of those!

Food and service were good, BUT when I paid my bill, the receipt they gave to me already have the tips and total amount written by the server! All I need to do was fill out the signature part... What a nice server! They knew I cant even write my own receipt.

I really dont understand how this has gotten all five stars before now. It was a completely mediocre experience. Im not from NYC, so perhaps this is the best you can get there at the price, but it was very bland. The atmosphere and service were fine.

If you only looked at your sushi and didnt eat it, youd still be getting your moneys worth. The presentation here borders on works of art. Oh and the fantastical sushi rolls are so delicious youll dream about them at lesser, blander restaurants.

My co-worker and I go here all the time, and we love it. The lunch specials are a great value, and the sushi is always fresh and delicious. This place helped convert me - I used to refuse to ever eat sushi and now I cant get enough.

Great size portions, innovative rolls with great taste and fair prices, get the angry dragon roll or the tuna tartara. Ah! and Im forgetting the amazing service...bit noisy when the door is open but enjoyable still.

Very decent and pleasant restaurant. Good sushi, nothing spectacular. Fresh and delicious chefs selection choices. Try the mystic roll. Really good one. I cant say its my favorite, but it is a good restaurant.

Good place. Really loved the sweetheart roll and the miso soup. Good prices for New York $6.50 for a spicy tuna roll. Sweetheart roll was $18. We got fruit after our meal which was nice. Quaint and quiet.

Good sized menu for a small place, includes some interesting rolls and dishes. I had the Saikyo Miso salmon, and it was good! Clean, but small and therefore noisy. Go for the food, not the ambiance.

I ordered the king salmon and Alaskan roll. However the salmon was improperly defrosted and still half frozen. Improper food handling and temperature is something I dont want in a sushi restaurant
