A Diamond in the rough. What might be a ubiquitous small neighborhood bakery in Europe in terms of quality and consistency is a true unicorn in metro Washington DC. Limited to a small selection of French pastries; they are not catering to the masses. This is destination bakery worth the trip to the last of the industrial parks in suburban Maryland. Their Canele and croissants are outstanding. One of the guys in our office cried when they re-opened a few months ago with the same team on the same site at the old St. Michel. The Canele are among the best Ive had. The are caramelized on the outside, a little crispy to chewy, with a dense vanilla center. The almond croissants have also improved with a truly crispy, flaky Parisian croissant around a what must be a home made almond filling. These are not the general mass made goods. The kicker in all this is that the prices here are beyond fair. They use flour (and for some croissants butter )from France, and Callebaut Chocolate from Belgium This bakery is focused on producing quality product, with no marketing machine I hope they can stick it out. See what the small group of loyal customers from HHS and FDA know in the Parklawn industrial park. Come early, or call ahead and reserve your order, as both Almond Croissants and Canele can often sell out by 11 to noon. Come and taste it for yourself before they make the Post or Washingtonian and then well all be at the mercy of the masses.

La Bohemia Bakery is a cute little European bakery that just opened up in Rockville, taking over the previous French bakery, St. Michels. The baked goods are really good! Everything is freshly made. They have baguettes, bread loaves, sandwiches, and pastries like croissants, tarts, etc. The owners are also really friendly and helpful. I had the Atlantique Sandwich, which has smoked salmon, butter, lettuce, tomato, and cucumber on a French baguette. I also requested adding Brie and was not charged extra for it! The entire sandwich was delicious. The baguette was freshly made with a nice crispy crust and soft inside. When I showed up on a early Thursday afternoon, they were out of a lot of items. I was still able to get a chocolate croissant, Chocolate Moelleux (chocolate lava cake), and a Honey Cake. The store owner also threw in an almond choco croissant for me to try! Everything was amazing! The croissants were soft and flaky. The Honey Cake tasted heavenly. It can be a little too sweet though. They also serve coffee, which I have yet to try. Id definitely return to try their other baked goods. La Bohemia is not located in the most convenient area. Its tucked away in the industrial side of Rockville, but its worth the drive. Even though it does not have as many items as other French/European bakeries, you wont be disappointed in what they have to offer!

We visit La Bohemia as part of the 2016 Yelps Hidden Gems challenge. It was a little tough to find the place, but there was plenty of parking. We waited around for a little bit before being helped. We ordered a latte and a cappuccino, along with two mini-croissants. Unfortunately, both our drinks both ended up being lattes (after waiting ~10 minutes for them). We didnt complain though because while waiting, 4-5 more customers showed up and had to wait as well. My latte, although not what I ordered, was very good, as were the croissants. I felt kind of bad for the people waiting in line though. It seemed like the people at the end were waiting 20 minutes for a coffee (and consequently were standing right next to our table the whole time). The menu was huge and had a lot to offer, so Id definitely go back and try out some more of La Bohemias products. Nothing was bad about the place, but nothing really compels me to go back just yet either. I wouldnt be opposed to swinging by for a coffee if I happen to be over that way again. Maybe after a few beers at 7 Locks Brewery right down the road ;)

Simply the best! I was in the area on vacation and found them via Yelp review. Its hidden in the cut but this place is wonderful. The almond croissants are the best Ive EVER had. By day two of my visit, I was buying three so I could snack on them throughout the day. LOL The only thing almost as good as the croissants was the COFFEE. This tiny little slice of French bakery heaven, is divine. The guys who work there even speak French. I was able to try out the phrases I learned in my high school French class. And yes, I still got it LOL

Excellent little European bakery. I wont claim its as good as Paris, but its much better than anything else youll be getting around here. Croissants are buttery and flaky and pretty much perfect. Breakfast and lunch sandwichs are good. They have a breakfast special that gets you a ham/cheese/croissant sandwich and a small coffee for $6. You would pay several dollars more at Starbucks for substantially lower quality. What else? Staff is friendly. Coffee is solid. Interior seating is limited (6 chairs). Come check it out.

The quality and authenticity is excellent here and the people are nice. Its a place youd never expect to be but it adds to the cozy feel of the place. There are only a couple tables which are rarely occupied, as most patrons are in and out. They have a small selection but they do it well, so its easy to say that everything there is of high quality. Be warned, if you try their tarts your pants size will start increasing. Thats a promise, Jack!

OMG! Bravo La Bohemia! True gem in Rockville/North Bethesda area that has Authentic and Fresh Desserts, pastries and sandwiches made with love and from natural ingredients. Love the owners and French guy who was helping us today and gave some recommendation for some yumminess. I am officially La Bohemia addict!. The place is a must to visit. I will be definitely back, with bunch of my other foodies friends! <3

Note: this is a small bakery. Only 3 very small tables., so dont think its a café style bakery where you can hang out for a while...(no wc) The service is very courteous. Breads are good. Best to pick and go. Good quality ingredients and fair price. Dont arrive with a crowd to order espresso, the machine is tiny and it can take a while. They do have regular coffee though.

This a local gem hidden on the backside of yonder. They have a wide variety of baked European desserts and savory treats from mini canneles to eclairs to honey cake, etc. Staff is friendly and always ready to help make a decision. Spaces is extremely limited inside the bakery so its a good place for a quick grab and go. Prices are super reasonable too!

Stumbled across the place while getting my car repaired. Whod have thought this place existed! But what food! The almond croissant is flaky and buttery. The bread pudding is dense and chewy. And the owner proudly face me four free samples to try! Quality, service, and prices that are very low. Out of the way, but well worth your while.

Delicious pastries, reasonable prices, friendly staff, and a quaint atmosphere. We were visiting the vet across the street and stopped by this cafe on a Wednesday morning ~9am. Seems like a popular hidden gem among a variety of Rockville locals and local businesses nearby.
