In recent years Harlem has become home to some of New York City’s best restaurants. I recently had a chance to visit Harlem Food Bar on the upper west side. The graphic art painted walls and small stools are cute and trendy. The waitress and bartender staff were refreshing and very friendly. I went to take advantage of the happy hour special and much to my surprise, the only drink special was buy one get one free. I was on my own and only wanted one drink (It was a work night). I wasn’t really in the mood to drink at a high price, so I opted for a diet coke instead (other patrons raved about the drinks). I ordered the buffalo wings and fries, which were delicious! Both were original recipes and I was impressed. HFB made a simple bar meal taste gourmet. Since I was the only person drinking a non-alcoholic beverage, I was granted numerous refills. Although the seating was small and cute, I found it to be a little tight. The owners make up for this by having a coat rack and hooks for handbags and briefcases under the bar. There was also outlets to charge phones and devices. One of my biggest surprises was that there is no Wi-Fi offered at the restaurant. Wi-Fi has become a huge complimentary offering among many NYC restaurants. As a warning to single New Yorkers, you may want to take someone with you to the tiny restaurant. As a single girl passing through solo, I noticed couples and groups dominate the crowd. Many of them frequent the restaurant. Overall I give Harlem Food Bar a 3 out of 4 stars. It has a few flaws, but HFB is the perfect spot for an after work drink or a casual date. Harlem Food Bar is located at 2100 Frederick Douglas Blvd (near 113 and Central Park West

I rarely write reviews and I wish I had nothing but great things to say, but unfortunately that is not the case. I have had two significantly disappointing experiences here that must be made known to hopefully spare someone else from the same fate. On two separate occasions I have been overcharged when using my debit card to pay the bill. It wasnt until a few days later that I noticed and decided not to make a fuss over a few extra dollars. Everyone makes mistakes, right? Wrong. Last night my boyfriend experienced the same thing, but at a more blatant and obvious degree because he left a gratuity in cash, but was charged and extra five dollars on his card. This shady behavior is a red flag and it seems to me that this is an ongoing scam taking a couple dollars here and there from patrons preying on their vulnerability and banking on their ignorance. This is unacceptable. Its bad business and totally contradicts the neighborly atmosphere that has been built up in South Harlem over the last few years. Dont waste your time or money at Harlem Food Bar. There are many more restaurants on restaurant row with far superior food and honest service.

Looked like a nice spot, so wee tried it for brunch. Went from good to bad. Nice atmosphere, and the menu looked good. The lemon blueberry pancakes were great, but my wifes Eggs Benedict came well undercooked, when she asked for medium. Waitress immediately took them away and said shed have then redone. Great, however, 10 minutes later, still no eggs, and I was finished my pancakes. Not once did anyone come by to refill our waters or coffees, which had been finished before the pancakes even arrived. 3 staff behind the bar seemed content on chatting, and ignoring everyone else, while one waitress did all the running. At this point we asked for the cheque, still no eggs, and the waitress had the audacity to tell us that she went ahead and took the eggs off the bill. Well, I would hope so, since we never got the dam eggs!

Pumkin Escobar Says
Ack. What can Pumkin Escobar say about this place? The menu language didnt match the food that arrived in front of me and the it also said the fries was fresh cut and they were CLEARLY FROZEN. If theres one thing Pumkin Escobar will not stand for, it is a french fry lie. Seriously, the dude does NOT abide. Then when I complained that the fries, the owner tells me that they HAD fresh cut fries, but they switched because it was too much work. Too much work? For great fries? Foolishness and as a result, I have not returned. I mean, if frozen shoe string fries from the frozen section of your local Associated is your thing, then, by all means, go ahead, but I dont have to live like some animal.

Over priced , unorganized and now irrelevant . Ive tried to dine here twice the first time my friend and i were told they dont open until 5pm so that never happened . The second time i apparently came in during a shift switch which i guess mean its acceptable for patrons and guests to stand and sit around unacknowledged while staff and manager all stand idly doing absolutely nothing besides laugh and congregate among themselves . I would not recommend this place its probably gonna fade away just as fast as this over night Harlem new wave came it . Do Harlem a favor .... go out of business and allow a REAL establishment to move you , You guys just arent ready.

Wish I could tell you what the food here tastes like but unfortunately even after waving the waiter down and waiting 10 minutes in plain sight, I couldnt even get a menu. Other than the lousy service the place seemed very loud and the people in it exceptionally obnoxious. But that might have just been a Sunday Brunch after effect.

Ordered the Chili, HFB Burger (medium) which comes with fries and all I can say is that it was simply phenomenal! The meat was very tender and succulent. Being from Chicago my burger-standards are high and HFB ecxeeded them. Highly recommend HFB for the food and the friendly service not to mention Ernie the owner is one cool cat!

The burger and frozen margaritas are amazing. I always get avocado on my burger because lets face it who doesnt love a healthy fat. The margaritas are perfectly frozen and they have awesome flavors available (passion fruit, mango, pomegranate) - for an added twist try mixing two flavors!! Yummmm!!

Waiter was friendly and always available even though the place was packed. Only negative was that I ordered wings plain without the spicy sauce and they still messed it up. The Mac and cheese sticks are amazing!!

I very rarely rate and review, in fact this is my first time doing so! The waiter with an attitude got the order wrong twice and charged us for it. Overpriced, average food and extremely poor service.

Small cafe in the burgeoning Frederick Douglass corridor. The staff is very attentive and the food is good. The prices are a little steep for what you get and the selection is pretty limited.

Great 2-for-1 happy hour. Definite gay vibe and atmosphere between the staff and the customers. It makes for a fun, relaxed and chill dining/drinking experience. Rare in Harlem maybe.

The staff is incredibly nice, and while maybe a little pricey you get what you pay for. The food is amazing! They also have late hours, so its a great place to get a midnight meal
