Went there on a date with my girlfriend. First of all, the service was great, they kept checking up on us and filled waters very regularly. We ordered the falafel platter and the Shashuka for Brunch. Got the $5 bloody mary, and now I have a new favorite bloody mary, it was phenomenal, presentation was great with olives and a teeny cheese sandwich on top of the drink! Then the main courses, the Falafel Platter and the Shashuka, my girlfriend and I split, were extremely fresh and tasted delicious! The pitas for the falafel were cut into four quadrants and tasted freshly baked, the falafel and hummus were scrumptious and the tahini and other sauces that were on top were yum yum yum. The Shashuka was delicious as well, the spices on the egg were earthy and tasteful and the sauce tasted homemade and the sauces flavor was perfect. And Ill let you in on a little secret, the red sauce from the Shashuka - when put on the falafel with the hummus and israeli salad (that came with the falafel platter) and tahini, put me into mouthy heaven. And the portions were great too, I need to eat a lot to get full and both my girlfriend and I were in a sunday food coma from that delicious meal. We were going to get dessert (which looked amazing) but we couldnt fit anymore in our tummies, and that says a lot because we really wanted to. So yea, I forgot about the best part. This huge meal for two, including the TWO monster delicious bloody marys, came out to just over 30 bucks. I dropped two twenties on the table, and went home to watch "Its Always Sunny in Philadelphia" episodes with the girlfriend in an immensely-content, food-induced, ecstatically-elevated state. Are you freaking kidding me? Best meal ever. Thats it, enough said.

The first time I ate here I was favorably impressed. The salad dressing was excellent and the coconut chicken delicious. The service wasnt great, but it was adequate. The second time was only a few weeks later. This time the salad dressing was so disgusting it ruined the salad and the coconut chicken was so greasy, overfried and heavy I got serious indigestion from it. Did they change their chef? It was just awful. But worst of all was the amazingly stupid and incompetent young waitress who couldnt properly take an order for two that was exactly the same for both people and had us wait a half hour for the chicken she forgot to order after all the other food was served. She was rude, un-attentive and un-apologetic. She even had a helper she was training...God only knows how...since she needed training herself. Mind you the place was not even crowded but she never once came to the table to see if we were alright or wanted dessert or needed the check. Never once apologized for ruining the meal by forgetting to order the chicken. Saying it would take 2 minutes to get it and it took a half hour and then was annoyed we were asking where it was. Then she charged more than the menu price for the same item I ordered the last time I was there and when I pointed it out to her she said the other waitress was wrong. When I asked for the manager she said there was none. I guess that explains everything. Whoever owns this restaurant..this waitress will ruin your reputation as will your sunday night cook. It was abominable. Ill never eat here again. The absolute worst. Stay away.

My boyfriend and I moved into this neighborhood about three months ago when it was too cold to venture very far or explore our new surroundings. Cafe Petisco was the closest thing to us, so the first night we wanted to eat out in the neighborhood, we just ran there. So glad we did. Weve now eaten there about eight or nine times and I am absolutely serious when I say Ive enjoyed each meal more than the last. My boyfriend always gets the skirt steak, which is *delicious* and I tend to order the vegan bowl, which changes daily but usually consists of a grain like rice or quinoa with sauteed kale and a variety of vegetables. Everything from the bread they bring before the meal to the drinks is fabulous. I probably sound like Im gushing too much, but you really need to eat here. Everything is normal and borderline unremarkable except for the damn food, which is so good and feels like an underrated little treasure that not enough people have discovered yet.

I was so happy when this charming cafe came to my neighborhood a few years ago. The owners and the staff are very friendly and the food is eclectic, healthy and delicious. Some of dishes have a Middle Eastern flavor and other dishes are more Mediterranean in style. Cafe Petisco is great for breakfast, lunch or dinner. Favorite dishes include the mushroom omelet with caramelized onions, the huevos rancheros, the pancakes and french toast, the shrimp salad, the fish tacos, the falafal pita and the Halvah Silan for dessert (vanilla ice cream parfait with Halvah and caramel syrup!). I love it that they pair the omelet (and other dishes) with a salad with Balsamic vinaigrette rather than the traditional home fries. Much healthier and very tasty! The atmosphere is one of a simple French bistro and the owners are continually adding touches over time to make it cozier. Note they serve beer and wine and the restaurant is cash only.

This place has such good food that I ate in it 4 times. And let me tell you, I dont like to go to the same place too many times as I feel like its a waste of a food experience somewhere else so that speaks volumes. The first time I had the chicken & avocado panini w/ fries and it soooo good. Such a good combo, was warm and freshly made. The happy hour cocktails are refreshingly delicious. The eggs florentine are an absolute weekend brunch must! The blueberry pancakes are served in a v. generous portion and are so, so tasty. The omelette w/ goats cheese & red peppers are the best eggs I had in all of Manhattan. Its only 10 bucks and comes with a yummy salad and a slice of whole-wheat toast. Definitely get value for your dollar and it will keep you going for a long time.

Absolutely fell in love with this cafe. The place is cozy and very nicely decorated and they play old music that adds a magical touch to the overall ambiance. The staff is friendly, attentive and efficient. And the food... well, the food is nothing short of AMAZING. We went two days in a row for breakfast and would have gone many more days if we had stayed in NYC. I can honestly say this was the best food we had during our whole vacation.

Im not sure what happened, but its gone way downhill from a few years ago. The terrible unripened, no-way-organic tomatoes in the Greek salad (during high tomato season, mind you) made with cheap bar olives is not enticing me back anytime soon. Consider springing for a few Greek olives and some organic heirlooms, or drop the price and expunge the organic rap from the menu. Also, a cappuccino made with almond milk is 7.50. Seriously?
