When my coworker Tom G. told me he wanted to take me to a very cool bar in Union Square, I was excited! Benjamin Cooper is literally a hidden gem - you would probably miss it if you werent looking for it.The bar has a rustic charm and an intimate feel with the dim lights. Besides bar seating, they have a few small tables closer to the entrance and a larger table in the back with comfy sofa seats. They serve $2.50 oysters and $12 cocktails. You can choose between the nine creative and tasty cocktails on the menu or order a classic. My fave so far is the Marvin Berry scotch, lo-phi sweet vermouth, cocoa, balsam Amara, and berries.If youre looking for a cozy and romantic bar for a hot date, look no further!

What looks like a sketch hole-in-the-wall bar for the outside, turns out to be a cool local DTLA bar! Ive driven past this place without giving it second thought for quite a while, until someone insisted I really check this place out. We came in on a Thursday night, which was super quiet when we arrived. By the time we left it seemed like it was starting to pick up for the night. The drinks have some gracious pours to them. The bartenders are cool and the drinks dont empty your wallet faster than you can get a buzz. Its a win-win in my book!

"Ugly, ramshackle" bar run by self-important Gen X-ers trying to stay "relevant" with "pretentious and cloying" weekly events. If you like "washed up, poorly dressed, thirtysomethings" breathing down your neck believing its 1992, you have your spot. If, however, you are a normal person who finds such "desperate venues" a waste of time and such hangers-on a total garbage pile of humanity, stay home and hang onto your dignity.

Huge space (the exterior doesnt begin to hint at the vastness of the place), generally fun crowd, very good drinks that give a wry nod to current cocktail trends instead of obsessing over them, music that doesnt send you on a violent killing spree, and a ho-hum bar manager...whats not to like? (Just kidding, John! Youre ho-hum+!)

One of my favorite undiscovered bars in LA. Great, casual atmosphere. Beer selection is good, cocktails ok-beer is better here. Parking is usually very easy to find. Never gets too crowded, never a line to go in. Great for a date.
