Have ate here 3 times now. First time was very good. Second time was inedible. Ordered a BYO bowl every time. The chicken was rubbery sort of gum like fatty meat wads. The third time I ordered without any meat at all. I was told 15 minutes on the phone. Went in after 20, and waited 20 more minutes standing in there. I overheard they accidentally put brisket on it. They then took it in a back room. I didnt think anything of it until I got home. And found bits of brisket around the edges and pressed into the food. They picket the brisket out of it rather than remake the bowl. This is completely unacceptable behavior for a restaurant. Absolutely unprofessional. I never once have seen anyone that is an obvious manager there. If they are willing to pick the meat out of an order that was specifically ordered without meat, what else would they do? I will not trust this place with making my food again. Thanks for making me go without eating today Old Southern BBQ. And I was/am starved.

The first time that I went there we ordered a half a pound of brisket, 2 hot link sausages, potato salad, and macaroni & cheese. The brisket was excellent but the sausage I didnt care for. My wife said the potato salad tastes like salt, as for myself I had the macaroni and cheese and it was pretty dry. The worst thing about the whole experience was that it took 25 minutes to get this food. we were there at 11:30 on a Friday morning. Round 2: 8/2/16 Had a good experience with a brisket the first time around so I thought why not Ill try it again I also ordered half a pound of pulled pork. The smoked meat was excellent however once again the worst part about the experience was the wait time. I showed up at 1:30 p.m. and waited another 20 minutes to get that to-go order. Ill probably return in a few months and give it another try hopefully their employees have gained some more experience by that point and the wait time wont be so long.

** FOLLOW-UP, UPGRADED POST/REVIEW** As a follow-up to my less-than-stellar review two months ago, big thanks to Dave Anderson (chain owner) and store manager Joe Seaver, for reachng out to us, and inviting us for a second try... VERY good food (we went with, a party platter... the "hot links" and the cole slaw, of all things, were actually my flavor-ites!) and much improved customer service. Looking forward to our return visits! Many thanks again, and blessings on your continued success. (Original post, June, 2016): Decent food, horrible customer service from the supposed "top" on down. Upon placing our order, we were informed, point blank, "Were outta ribs." (... ummm... okay..?). When our food came, there were a couple of minor. mistakes which my wife pointed out, and was told, verbatim, "Yup." (After three mistakes were cleaned up, we did not see, not hear from our waitress again

I like the food. The atmosphere is more wide open cafeteria than restaurant. If youve been to places like Leanne Chinn, Panda Express, Chipotle, or other such restaurants, then you know what to expect. The menu selection is limited. You can buy your own meat to use at home. At the time we went it was fairly empty, but come around quitting time (4:30p-5:00p) it gets busy. And loud. They really need to put some sound dampening material in there. Its very popular, but I suspect thats because the food has a fairly wide appeal. Very little interesting items to be impressed by, fairly standard American fare. The company is owned by Dave Anderson, founder, but no longer owner of Famous Daves.

We have been in Hayward and stop to eat at Southern barbecue shortly after it opened. Wasnt the best food nothing compared to his place on the lake. So we thought we would try again in Hudson as that is where we live. It was Friday around 5:30 and the place was busy. Waited 30 minutes for food for 2. No place to sit and wait and when I say wait that is a long time to stand for a older person. Like other reviews food was under cooked so had to not only warm it up but finish cooking ribs. They are going to have to work out a better assembly line to turn out faster food but better made. Too many good restaurants in Hudson to waste your time here.

Stopped in for lunch on their first day of being open in Hudson. Ordered the brisket platter for $15.99. It came with choice of one side, a muffin top and a small amount of onion/cucumber salad. A drink was extra. Maybe 6-8 ounces of brisket, on the dry side. Everything tasted good but the portions seemed very small for the price. I ate everything and was still hungry. The sauces on the tables are delicious...I tried them all. In my opinion, a $16 platter should come with two sides and a drink. Otherwise, happy with the place and I will be going back soon.

BEFORE: Great food but a long wait AFTER you place your order. EDIT: We have been here five times now and it is so frustrating at the wait to get your food and then it really is not anything special. There is usually something wrong with every meal we have to get fixed. There is a quality control problem here. Sitting here now and three tables have been left with dishes from vacated customers for 45 minutes. The tables are all sticky after customers do bus their own tables, nothing has been wiped either. It will probably be our last visit for a while.

Went to the old southern BBQ Smokehouse on the first day of open in Hudson Wisconsin . My husband and myself were the 5th people in the line. The staff were great they explained the menu and ordering process to us. they answered our questions professionally they were kind and courteous .the food was well priced.we did not leave hungry. We thought the food was fabulous .that jazz atmosphere old-time BBQ theme was great. Got to meet the owner Dave shake his hand and he was gracious enough to pose for a picture with my husband and myself what a great guy

Environment was noticeably attractive. However the food was not. The brisket and pork was not tender, in fact almost seemed to need a bit more time. Im not sure if our food was served cold or if it just turned cold from sitting on freezing cold trays. Chicken was dry, party corn was not good although they offered to swap out. Its great that they offer to go boxes readily. I was able to go home and heat my leftovers and enjoy them warm and smoked. Good when warm by the way. Staff was respectful and helpful.

Waited a few weeks to try. Definitely good. Prices are better than other BBQ places and for my meal the portion was big. Had the brisket meal, lots of meat could only eat half. The mashed potatoes needed more flavor but the portion was bigger than it looked. By the way it is a real slab of lean brisket not that shaved stuff you see elsewhere. By the time we left the place was overflowing. Hope they advertise with all the nearby hotels. Or maybe not because well never get in the door.

The food is tasty, but the meat portions are small and overpriced. I paid $20 for two chicken halves tonight. One would assume that would equal a whole chicken, right? Wrong. Not at this place. (Or perhaps they just use itty bitty chickens?) What I got wasnt even enough to feed three people. I could have gotten rotisserie chickens from Sams Club for the price I paid. Also, the wait time was a bit long even though they werent very busy.
