I rate this restaurant "poor" based on the wait time to be greeted (we were never seated or served) and the total indifference of the waitstaff. We were passing through the area on I-81 on the way back home from a trip. We enjoy eating at unique restaurants and looked forward to finding a historic place to eat in downtown Winchester. We were very excited when we found the Cork Street Tavern. When we walked in, it was very neat and interesting and we were looking forward to a unique experience. We had a party of five--two adults, a teenager and two children 6-7 years old. We were never greated. We stood in the middle of the restaurant for thirty minutes watching a football game on TV. The locals just stared at us and never once offered any information or advice like "go ahead and sit down--somebody will be with you" or "they are short staff--it is going to take a while". It was a very rude and uncomfortable experience just standing there with the locals just looking at you. While waiting, we took turns going to the bathroom and watched the TV. We were standing withing 6 feet of the door where the waitress was going in and out of the kitchen. We were able to see the cook each time the door swung open. The cook was smoking while he was cooking and his clothes did not look fresh and his facial hair and hair did not look very clean--he looked like he just rolled out of bed. The waitress must have passed us 20 times and never once spoke to us. After the last person in our party had gone to the bathroom and we were about to leave, the waitress finally came up to us and asked "how many". I said "we are not staying--weve been standing here waiting for 30 minutes and noboday has even greeted us." We were expecting her to apologize or explain why it took her so long. Instead the waitress simply said "Oh, ok." and walked away as if our leaving would make her workload a lot easier. It was obvious that they were short-staffed, but the indifference towards the customer is reason enough to never go back there again.

Meh...if you go there for the beer or just low expectations, its fine. The service is still not great, even after you read the previous complaints and the efforts of the management to improve. Seems like a combination of lack of staff and apathy on the staffs part. the food was ok. I ordered the Reuben and it was good. My dad ordered a malbec that smelled like vinegar and tasted sour. He asked for another wine and got it but was charged for the malbec. A good waitress would have asked a manager to take it off the bill. For a restaurant, its a decent bar. Seems like theyre struggling and it shows. If not- figure out your identity and go with it. If you dont care about the food, then invest in the beer selection. If you do care about the food, stop buying frozen chicken nuggets for the kids and get the good chicken strips, dont serve stale "home made chips" and train a wait staff who knows how to at least *pretend* they care.

Beer and food were good, service was HORRIBLE! We waited almost an hour for our food and the server gave us a minimal discount (we didnt ask for one). In that hour, I saw a patron walk to the bar with her refill order on a paper napkin because the server never came to ask, another person had to walk to the bar for a to go box because the server didnt bring it, a gentleman brought the check and payment to the bar because nobody came for it and, finally, a lady asked for her wing order to go because they had waited an hour. Not sure what the problem was; not a big place, not all tables were full, and there were three servers. Didnt make sense that it was so bad. It was easy to lose sight of how good the burger and beer were when the rest of the experience was so bad. Its a historic place, but wont stay open unless they figure it out. There were a lot of people yesterday who wont go back.

Cork Street seems like a great place to go and hang out. The food that I have had there from the fish and chips to the spicy chicken sandwich has been pretty good. It can be a touch heavy on the salt but it is a bar like setting so it fits. The dining area can get a bit loud (its very open and lots of hard surfaces) and the temperature always feels either a bit warm or a bit cold. I would say the biggest single detractor is the speed of service. It always feels like its verging on just past too long (without any presented reason why). Im sure some of this is because they want to bring the tables food out all at once, but it can make a lunch end up taking much longer than it should.

Had a surprise party for my wife last night and it was great. I am shocked to read the other reviews about the staff that are negative. The staff could not have been any better. Our hostess was sweet and took care of every need any of my guests had. Our servers we in the room often taking drink and food orders and brought them out promptly. The bartender was not shy with the alcohol and was friendly as can be. The manager also made sure everything was going OK and checked in multiple times. Thanks to all the folks at Cork Street Tavern. We will definitely visit again.

stopped there while on trip to the valley.I always prefer places with history so despite the negative reviews I thought I would give it a chance.Ordered a beer-the selection of draft beers was good.Asked for menu.I got a menu but waitress never asked if I wanted to order any food.Whole atmosphere was not very hospitable.Very loud and obnoxious patron was carrying on.Not the kind of place to have a quiet beer.Service not very good..Did not stay to try the food.

RUDE RUDE RUDE! Bar staff were all horrible. I arrived shortly after the bar opened on the Saturday of Apple Blossom. There were two girls behind the bar who were both talking belligerently about other employees and customers from the night before. The environment is dirty, dark and dingy. It is almost like a dungeon. I will never go back. Now Village Squared right around the corner, now that is a nice bar.
