Maybe the chef had a bad day but this place sorely disappointed both me and a friend. Ill go through everything that was bad about my meal. The miso soup was incredibly salty, so much so that I could actually feel it grinding against my teeth and could see it pooling in the bottom of the bowl. The menu it self felt incredibly Americanized with "To-Go" sushi rolls that did not have a Japanese origin, Im all for a chef inventing his own meals but these were a disappointment. The sushi it self was the biggest offender with the rice being a mushy non-sticky mess and the fish itself looking like it was chopped up with a hacksaw, rough edges on it it and haphazardly thrown upon the rice. The food here is absolutely NOT worth the price. Finally, the aroma of the incense in the store was so overpowering, the only redeeming factor was the wasabi which was actually spicy and I think legitimate and not the knock off wasabi you usually get at sushi bars. Dont waste your money here if you want good sushi.

Probably the best sushi restaurant Ive ever been to. The place is very quaint, and has a peaceful atmosphere. The sushi itself includes the classics that you would expect, and also features unique twists on the idea that work really well and impressed me and the friends I went with. Prices were fair for the quality and quantity that you receive. You wont leave hungry if you get one of their more specialized sushi rolls. The menu is kind of designed for you to mix and match with your friends and try different kinds of sushi. The waitress was very nice, attentive, and knowledgeable about the menu, and the chef was also a swell chap that came out to ask about how our meal was. Really cool folks running this place. I cant recommend this place enough. Youre doing yourself a disservice to not at least give this place a shot. You wont be disappointed unless you hate sushi.

This is hands down the best sushi restaurant we have been to. Not only is the chef extremely personable, but ask you what your style or preference of sushi is, not just his favorites. My wife and I always try new sushi places when we travel, this was the first time we only had to order a single roll or dish and was more than full and satisfied. The balance of fish portions with sauce and fillers, allowed the flavor of the fish be the main flavor and accented by the sauces and fillers. We tried the poppers, which were amazing. I prefer sashimi, so he made us a a spicy tuna cocktail. Absolutely phenomenal. Will be frequenting this restaurant every time we visit.

If youre reading this review because youre searching for a sushi place in VA Beach, then just set your nav to take you here. Lee has been in business in this location for 18 years, that alone tells you that this is a winning sushi place. Top quality with a product delivered by a caring owner who takes the time to learn what you like and wants to be sure you enjoy every bite while visiting his restaurant. He has a very unique perspective for how to pair flavors in innovative ways, I told him to feed me like I was a member of his family and he blew me away. You can get your favorites here and satisfy your cravings but also find some new ones as well.

Flavor: superb Portions: plentiful Ambiance: welcoming Mr. Lee and his wife have a hidden gem in This Old House Sushi. With 30 years of culinary experience, 18 of which are at the current location, Mr. Lee guides his patrons on a flavor adventure using only the freshest seafood. Each piece is expertly crafted to complement the flavors of each ingredient. The spicy tuna roll and the Black Widow were fantastic. Even appetizers and first course plates like salad, soup, and gyoza are flavorful and made wIth pride. I highly recommend this establishment to anyone tired of the same old, run of the mill American sushi. Mr. Lee is a master!

Ive been coming here since 2000. Mr.Lee is just awesome. He always remembers what I order. I went there at least 4 times a week for lunch. Now that I live in Chesapeake, I make it at least 3 or 4 times a month. I havent found a sushi place in Chesapeake that is this good. Best known to regulars here is the Salmon Good to Go roll. Its a perfect blend of spicy & sweet. Its been my favorite since it was created. If you are going to lunch, get there when he opens. It gets pretty busy by 1.

I have been to over a dozen sushi restaurants here in Virginia Beach and this place is the best. The portions are not what you would expect, they are very hearty. The menu items are creative in both name and flavor. Mr. Lee takes the time to ask you what flavors you like in your sushi and often times will create a dish not on the menu to satisfy your cravings. I recommend the sushi poppers, salmon good to go, and the chum roll.

Some friends and I were on a sushi binge, so we decided on this place after he suggested. If you want Sushi, come here! The Chef is very accommodating if you do not want certain things with your dish, and it was well worth it just to come here and give some of the rolls a try. Overall, best place to try if you like sushi! The portions are large for the money you are spending. If I had to have sushi, Id come back again.

I went on a sushi bender recently. I sampled sushi from 5 different restraunts in 3 days. Mr. Lee gets my Golden Chopsticks Award. TheSalmon Good to Go is perfect. So perfect that for the first time in my life I did not use a drop of soy sauce. This hidden joint is worth driving by two or three other sushi places to get to. I Cant wait to try another Good to Go.

I dont get sushi often but when I do I come here. I have never been disappointed. It was amazing. We got Dragon roll, Spider Roll and the Black Widow. I really liked the eel so Dragon would be my favorite tonight. My sweetheart said he looked the Spider because of the soft shell crab. The Black Widow is always a good idea. Wonderful evening!

Absolutely an awesome experience! Mr Lee was great! Dont go there to order plain old Sushi--it will be great, but you HAVE to get the Good-To-Go rolls--they are his creation and just awesome. While you are at it, try some of his special flavored Saki and get a bottle to take home. This old House is the best hidden gem ever!

I spent most of my formative years in Japan and Im very critical of Japanese cuisine here in the states. Mr. Lee is one of a kind, his attention to detail and the quality of his food is without reproach. I have been a faithful patron since 1996, and will be for many years to come. If you like sushi then your "Good to Go"!
