3 stars on the food - 2 stars on service for our server - 0 star on friendliness or appeal The food was excellent and our server attentive and friendly. Unfortunately our first impression was not warm and welcoming at all. We had a party of 5. Two of us showed up soon after opening for lunch. We browsed the gift shop for a few minutes then decided to secure a table since we had a larger than normal party. After being greeted we were pretty much "shoed" to an outside table because five of us at a table inside would be pretty cramped. However, it was pretty hot (90) and humid. I think we wouldve preferred a/c and cramped to outside under those circumstances. We didnt make a fuss though and said fine. The hostess said shed get our table set and ready - which she promptly did. Keep in mind we were pretty much the first ones there - period. The place was empty. The meeting time for our group was 11:30. Our table was set and ready by 11:15. A few minutes later the third person showed up. By 11:20 4 out of 5 of us were there. What really ruffled our feathers was being told we would not be seated until our entire party arrived - policy dontchaknow. You know, I understand policies are made for a reason. And under other circumstances (rush hour, really busy) I would have been much more okay with having to wait to be seated. But really? Were standing out there trying to find some shade to wait in, and we can see the completely empty patio with our table all set and waiting for us and they refused to seat us. It made no sense. It felt rude and not welcoming or friendly at all. Our checks wouldve been larger had they let us sit and wait - all of us wouldve ordered a drink. But by the time we finally got seated we were so irritated we just wanted to get the show on the road. By the time we left around 1:00 the place was packed. So if you want to go just know ahead of time you should try and get there early and dont expect to be seated until your entire party is there - even if theyre empty.

Its amazing. At first glance, its a couple of old houses with cheap decor. Your expectations seem to lower a bit. But once you walk up and look around, its a suprise in every detail. Servers are really friendly and they know how to sell themselves to make you want more. The timing of the food was mediocre. It evens out because while you wait, theres many conversation pieces to catch your attention. Once you receive your food, the presentation is definitely worth the wait. Quiche salad was perfection. Real crab flakes and amazingly flaky golden crust. It was topped with their homemade green salad dressing. Next to that was a very crunchy and fresh salad and some sliced green apples for palate cleansing. Leaping Lizard Grilled Breakfast Burrito (spicy) was packed with perfect portions. Did not taste spicy at all until the second to the last bite but I wasnt mad. Just dont expect spicy. Maybe it was just my serving but it was still delicious. Served with scrumptious Salad and green apple slices. As the waitress took the plates away, she listed the desserts right away which was a great move. Instead of asking a yes or no question, it was choices that makes you think of which instead of the instinctive no thank you. Oatmeal chocolate cookie was huge and came straight from the oven in a big piece of lump. Not very pretty but it was not something you can just try a piece of. That and the maccaroon was worth every crumb.

My husband and I went to lunch last Saturday. Our server took our order and brought us our drinks. She never came back to our table to check on us. After 30 minutes of waiting for our food, I had to stare at our server to get her attention....to ask how much longer before we get our food considering several tables that came in after us had already recieved our food. When she finally came over she said "what else can I get you...the kitchen lost your ticket". At this point we were fustrated since we drove from Raleigh, NC that that morning. We were nice but told her were were leaving. I had already checked-in on fb so I posted about our expreience. The owner (?) responded by basically saying it was our fault because we we intimidated our server (that we spoke to twice) on her first day. He went on to say we had a problem with her because shes from another country and speaks broken English. I was completely shocked and appauled that he blame us for the horrible service and implied that we racist towards our server when in fact we were the ones steriotyped by our server just because we have tattoos....that dont make us mean people. Theres so many other good places go eat in the area....ones where the owner/managers take responsibly for their mistakes instead of blaming a customer that just wanted a good meal.

Gifts in the gift shop are very nice and some are quite unique. That is why I went there this afternoon. Well, getting Kathy, the manager, to package the gift appropriately and the way I asked her to was like pulling teeth. It was nothing out of the ordinary...just a gift box, some tissue paper and bubble wrap. I asked her twice if there was a problem because she seemed so reluctant to do it. She kept telling me they were not responsible for the contents when mailed...but I had told her three times that they would not be mailing it because I was taking it to the Mail Depot where they will package it so it will be safe. As it turned out I ended up having to put the gift into the box with the paper and bubble wrap and everything fit quite nicely even though she kept telling me that it would not fit. No need to go into more details, but let me say that if she had been the owner I would have left without making a purchase. Since it was not the owners fault that Kathy was so put out I did buy the gift. I will not go back, though. There are other lovely gift shops in Virginia Beach and I will patronize them because the ones I know are appreciative of my business,

Very friendly staff, amazing and flavorful food! The best coconut cream pie Ive ever eaten (super flakey crust)and they make these cinnamon snails that are amazing! My 3 year old usually wont eat pastries that look home made but she devoured hers and then stole her older sisters! To me thats saying something! I will be coming back for more! My friends and I did come during the lunch rush and it was pretty packed and busy but worth it. Once everything calmed down we got to walk around and talk with the staff who were very friendly and personable. The cafe itself is open and inviting, I loved the decorations, its my type of environment and there is a lot of light coming in the outside portion. The chicken coop out back is super cute and their produce market has a good variety and I love how they have a green house out back as well! Also, instead of just throwing out the shell from their oysters they crush them up and use them as gravel for their drive way! I love how they operate and will recommend going here to all my friends! Thank you for the lovely afternoon!!
