It was my birthday, this place came highly recommended by a dear person that we hold in high regard. It was disastrous to say the least! Had reservations - ok - at 6 pm. we are full grown adults and put at a booth that is only comfortable for 2 people not 4. Sat there 10 minutes before being greeted, another 10 minutes for drink order - waited for drinks. Finally got to order appetizers, they came out fairly quickly, then the wait to order the main course. The waitress never checked back we saw her only when she had something for us. My son only got one beverage and sat empty glass for the most part of the night. We had to get another waitress for our check, the 45 minute + wait for the food was not worth it. It was too pricey for the food, nothing that would warrant a return trip. I felt cramped, claustrophobic, and not at all atmospheric as was the reviews say..... we arrived at 6 pm and not finished but definitely ready to go until finally at 8:45 pm...it was my birthday and it was not even recognized - she hardly broke a stride when coming near our table - never asked how the food was, can I get you something else sort of thing to - dessert not even mentioned - you see the other waitress had to get the ticket and I suppose the manager ran the credit card, he didnt even ask if everyone or everything was fine...I cant even give this place 1 star and feel like it was worthy of that.

The Tavern on the Rail is actually 2 great places in one... The upstairs is a little more traditional casual dining and the downstairs has a great bar and more of a neighborhood feel to it. The food is great and the owners and staff are top-notch. I highly recommend anyone in the area getting there for a great meal and a great time. If youre not from the area, its a great little out-of-the-way place to make a trek to for dinner and drinks!

Updated review: Lost 2 stars tonight, due to drastically altered menu. There are now more pages in the menu for alcohol than there are for food. No more sandwiches, all thats left is the burger. Watching a tank top clad waitress smoke out the patio door knocks down the class factor. Probably will not be back. So sad. Original review: Awesome hidden jewel in Bumpass. Highly recommend the crab cakes.

Love this place!! A hidden gem. Its a great historical place to bring out of town guests, as I often do. Food is always delicious. Weve gone for a special night out or just a quick bite in jeans. We just went this past weekend and were able to catch the game on the TV downstairs! Such a great time!

This place is a hidden treasure. The food is absolutely world class. Prime rib is one of the best that Ive ever eaten. Highly suggest reservations for dinner. Place is crowded always at dinner. Dont miss out on eating here. You will not regret it one iota.

I ordered the 16 oz prime rib cooked medium. It was impossible to cut and chew well enough to swallow. This is my second recent disappointing meal from this restaurant in the past 90 days. I ended up disposing of the meal.

Table not ready at reservation...bang bang shrimp is horrible brie with raseberry sauce horrible with soft crackers. Never waited for the food....after a 45 minute wait.
