We were passing through the town, coming home from Luray, and looking for a place to eat a late lunch. I really wanted to like this place. I love diners. I love cute local restaurants. The reviews were so warm and I loved the photos of the old-time soda fountain. Unfortunately, I just didnt enjoy the visit. The few other patrons seemed friendly. The staff was not the most together, although very friendly. The prices are cheap to reasonable, but sort of all over the place. The food itself wasnt terrible, but I wouldnt want to eat it again. I had an egg dish. The eggs were fine, but any potato smaller than a full slice tasted burnt. The toast was slathered with a tasteless grease- butter? It wasnt like any butter or margarine Ive ever had. The bacon wasnt great, but no worse than any other diner bacon. Maybe we came at an off time? I wouldnt stop in again.

LOL, you can see the polarizing reviews. The locals give it 5 stars, and others tend to lean on the lower side of the scale. Let me try to even it out: This place has good breakfast food, for a fair price. I live near here, and would totally drive the 15 minutes to eat breakfast, nomnomnom. That being said, if you want to give it a go on a weekend, give yourself plenty of time, it gets very busy. (because its good yall!) The local flare turns some people off, but hey, you are in Front Royal. The staff is friendly as well. Not the cleanest joint around, but you are in a southern diner, so take that with stride. All in all I feel like if you have never been here, you definitely need to try it out.

I hit on the Knotty Pine early one morning, while waiting for a nearby hardware to open. Nice place. Unpretentious. It is exactly what it purports to be - nothing fancy - just a quiet, little restaurant - offering tried and true selections. I had a good, solid breakfast, prepared as ordered, with timely and efficient service. The coffee was good, hot, and my cup was always kept filled.

The food is Diner perfect, daily specials are cheap and well made. The club sandwich is the best in town. Beer is cold and inexpensive. The front is classic old diner, the back is old school bar. I rate it the Beth place in town, and the service is a real Joy.

We just finished breakfast. I think we are the only non-locals here. This isnt a fancy place. Actually a little old and worn. But - the people are friendly and the food is great. Will stop again if we ever pass through again.
