Terrible Service and Food; Save your Money: In the 7 years weve lived in Alexandria, we have not come across a worse restaurant. Summary: Terrible Food, Horrendous Service, and Cold Temperature. We went there in Dec 2010, the temperature outside was 40 degs and the temperature inside was 50 degs. We had to eat with our jackets on. The food was terrible. My wife ordered minestrone soup and a bruschetta. The soup was more cannellini beans than anything else, the bruschetta had terrible tasting toppings and the bread was soft and not toasted. My younger son ordered grilled cheese. The cheese was not even melted it was so cold. The potato chips tasted burnt. My other son ordered Mac and Cheese, which was extremely greasy and more like noodles with melted cheese, no cheese sause or anything. I had a pizza that was so greasy it looked like the BP oil spill. The service was horrendous, they brought the grilled cheese out about 10 minutes before the rest of the food, so I had one son eating and the other one there saying he was hungry. We couldnt find the waiter to complain about it. When he brought the other food, we told him and he just shrugged it off. He never came back to check on us, no refills. I had to go to the bar to get refills. I couldnt even find him to get the check and had to get up to ask for that. The restaurant didnt seem over crowded or busy so I cant even blame that. The toys/games for the kids were so dirty. they were sticky. Overall, I wouldnt send my enemies there. Save your money.

Two trips, thus far, to Cafe on Fern. How can you go wrong with a place that delivers bottles of wine!! Seating is tight, and as others have said - they do seem to cater to a small, family style atmosphere. However, if youre looking for that street side cafe that you can find, literally on every street in any city in Italy, this is a good substitute. The pizza is paper thin, Which the cooks must be mindful of as they need to crisp it just a bit longer to avoid getting more soggy comments. The selection certainly reminds me of the pizza choices in Italy though - something that many other proclaimed Italian places cannot attest to. The staff was pretty friendly and attentive for how busy the place is. Wine selection is good and has some of the most reasonable prices Ive encountered in the area. Even cheaper if you take the bottle to go! I have yet to venture into the rest of their menu and do get turned off by seeing an American Burger on the menu - keep it pure italian already - but their pasta dishes looked wonderful from the ones I saw being carried out - and the kids seemed to be crazy for the Gelato. Give it a try, sit outside on a warm day and enjoy some pizza and a bottle of the vin. Youll forget about the hit and miss speed of service while getting lost in the homely atmosphere on the corner of Fern St!

Let me start by saying I think the food is actually pretty good, sometimes very good. The servers are usually friendly and energetic. That said, this restaurant, their other one in Crystal City, and the closed one in Del Ray have always felt like they didnt have professional management. We finally had an incident which resulted in our decision never to go back, but it has always been hit or miss as to whether you get greeted and seated in a normal manner, the server comes over to take your order in a timely manner or the food comes out in a reasonable time. It looks over-staffed but there is a lot of moving around and talking, and not much efficiency. You take your chances coming here....

Totally not happy with business here today. Dirty wine glass with lips on it still. Poured the wrong drink obviously. The lady next to me had it happen to her too. Over charged on my meal. Food somehow cold. Asked for sausage instead of meatballs. Update to as of march 2, 2017 Lower my star from a two to a one: my friend wanted to come and I agreed and tried to give a second chance. Kind sir behind counter with sagging pants I dont want to see your butt crack and please dont blow your nose behind the bar with food coming out through the window and then continue serving. Smh. I drug my friend out of here! I tried

Love this little neighborhood gem where the service is down home friendly and the dishes are mouth wateringly delicious! The pizzas are especially tasty and come in tried-and-true Italian form but also surprise you with stupendous fusions. Try "La Famiglia" -- you wont be disappointed! The rotating beer list is varied and the taps are super fresh. I will miss this restaurant dearly as I move out to CO. It is one of the last great small town restaurants where neighbors, friends and strangers alike gather to enjoy a fantastic meal. Everyone is always welcome!

Pizzaola had been out go to place for pizza for a while. Our neighborhood store closes a while ago, so weve been driving to Shirlington our take out. But this little restaurant in Fairlington is really nice, a neighborhood joint. Where Shirlington is noisy dark and crowded (you know, hip) this restaurant is relaxed and airy, with 5 or 6 outdoor tables. A great place to take the family for a Friday pizza night.

Locale informale, servizio buono. Simile alla cucina italiana, con ingredienti italiani, ma adattata ai gusti americani. Nel complesso non male (x gli italiani: consiglio evitare la pasta)

I have ordered many items from them.... all good.....However the service tonight INCREDIBLE. Tabitha offered me generous tastings for a potential bottle purchase..... no takers, but no additude and I tipped her generously..... fantastic!

My favorite delivery in (west) Alexandria!!! That spicy veggie pizza is to. die. for. And my pizza crust was even kind of dark and really crunchy on the edges, which I loooooove. Perfection, and unlike anywhere else (in a good way)!

Nice place and walking distance. My problem is I like talking, reading, writing and just thinking over coffee in the morning. But their piped in music discourages this. Otherwise Id be there every morning at 7.

Fun and friendly setting, great service, and legit pizza. They are very generous with the toppings and the crust is awesome, your pick of neopolitan or ny style. So glad to have this in our neighborhood!

Very favorably surprised. Stopped in thinking it was just a slice pie pizza joint (they only serve slices at lunch) and had fantastic bruschetta and a diavolo pizza. Full bar.

Pizza was good, a little bit too much oil. The atmosphere was very relax and felt like a great place to hang out. The appetizers were probably the best items.

Very nice Italian food, and they deliver beer and wine with your order! Reasonably priced, nicely flavored, and good service. Highly recommended.

Some of the best pizza in the area. Good beer selection also. Biggest knock is slow service. Theyre friendly enough, just tend to be slow.

Stopped in randomly today for some coffee. This place was top notch with service and the coffee was delicious as well.
