Consumer beware. If you open a tab please be sure to check your receipt so that the staff does not rip you off when it comes time to leave. I went out with two friends on 12/16/16 and had a great time. We were probably there for 3 hours. The waitress was mediocre. We had to keep flagging her down to get anything. We wanted to go outside for some air. Before we got to the door the waitress came running at us and told us we needed to leave a card with her. Understandable, however this would not have bothered me so much had she placed a better emphasis on customer service. She ignored us for the rest of the night. She wouldnt get us water. When the bill came we asked her to split three ways. She said she could not reverse the changes because the card had already been ran. Ok fine. I paid, gave her a decent tip and we left. Two days later I reviewed my receipt. For a tab of three people and a $57 tab, our waitress had added a pre calculated tip of 18% which amounted to be about $67. Had I been paying attention in my drunken state I would not have given her an extra 18% tip against the amount which already included a gratuity. I called and spoke with a manager on 12/18/16. She took my information and informed me it was not standard to add a gratuity onto the bill unless you are with a large party. A party of three surely does not constitue a large party and not to mention a $57 tab. The manager informed me her general manager "Josh" would contact me to straighten things out. It is now 12/27/16 and I have yet to receive a call. The money does not bother me, it is the lack of integrity with the staff at this place. If you can run a business and employ a staff that takes advantage of people who are inebriated, no thank you. I will not be back, ever. And I will be sure to let others know of this establishments dishonest practices.

Stopped in with some friends tonight for midweek drinks. The service just killed the experience for me. Our waitress didnt seem to know the drink menu well. Even worse, she was MIA for the whole 2 hours that we were there. We saw the barback 3 times more often than the waitress. Since we hadnt seen her in over 30 minutes we had to go to the bar to settle our tab. Pretty unprofessional. I ordered some light snacks. The shrimp taco was bleh. The shrimp was deep fried, and the tortilla and the fixings were nothing to write home about. What stole the show and earned this place two stars is the Pub Poppers appetizer. What is a pub popper you ask? Almonds stuffed inside medjool dates, and wrapped in bacon. Theyre basically heaven on a toothpick. Perfectly cooked smokey bacon, combined with the sweetness of the date, finished with a crunch of almond. Absolute deliciousness and a steal at three bucks for four. Eating more pub poppers is really the only thing thatll inspire me to go back to this bar!

Normally this bar has good service, but the last time I went my bartender, Julie, overcharged me, and gave me a hard time when I asked her to correct the bill. She had a bad attitude about having to get a manager to fix the bill. When she finally "corrected" the bill, and threw the receipt at me, it still wasnt accurate. I decided not to ask again to have the bill corrected, because she was clearly not having it and left a $1.00 tip. She grabbed my bill from me and made a scene about the tip I left. As I was leaving, they told my friend, not me, that I was 86d from the bar. I didnt even know that could happen for leaving a poor tip for very poor service. And to top it all off, Julie charged my card for BOTH inaccurate bills. I understand that a busy night can be stressful, but having a bad attitude AND double charging a customers entire bill is entirely unacceptable. Its unfortunate that I had such poor service this time around, because the the rest of the staff have always been great.

Weve been there twice and both times the service was horrible. Soooo slow. We made the mistake of ordering food both times and it took us over an hour to get out of there. If we were just there to drink it wouldnt have been bad. But since we wanted to eat, it screwed everything up. The waitress was extremely inefficient and kept leaving and coming back and each round trip took 10 minutes. Weve ate at plenty of pubs around Salt Lake and this level of non service is unique to this one. I would not recommend ever going there for food and drinks if you have somewhere to be. It was around 6pm so maybe that had something to do with it. But the place only had about 10 other people in it so I dont know. We werent greeted so we walked in and found a place to sit. We had to go hunt down a waitress (both times) just to get the ball rolling. As you can imagine with the time and everything people were getting hungry quickly. Over all, just terrible terrible service.

after being referred to this place several months ago, I decided to go in and find out why they were heavily recommended. The staff rocks!! Wink is gorgeous and very helpful. The time between ordering my and receiving my food seemed like a few seconds. I wished they gave more fry sauce, but I cant always get what I want. The reason for the 3 stars is a mix. The price of a mixed drink was 8.50!!! That seems outrageous!! There was a time I thought about not going to a LEGENDary sports part a little further south because they were charging $7 for a mixed drink. At least I gave it the old college try. Giving the service and the food 5 stars, but the prices dont deserve a star - too high!!! ,

Worst experience ever. The owner is a complete jerk and has no business running a bar. Apparently theres places on their smoking patio that you cant smoke.... After he told me this I started putting out my cigarette because I was unaware of the rule. He comes back five seconds later and snatches the ashtray away. There was no need for him to act so hostile. I was complying and putting my cigarette out. He definitely ruined the vibe and we left right away. I used to go to poplar quite a bit because their bartenders are nice, but I will definitely never go back after this. Learn how to run a bar! Customer retention is clearly not your strong suite.

The service is terrible now. The owner is incredibly arrogant. Ben i think thats his name the person checking ids has an ego and is so rude. This used to be my go to bar, took everyone i knew here my wife and I had our first date here so its a bummer we will never be back or any of our friends and there friends. I wont come back to poplar and will not recommend this place to anyone! Go elsewhere where they actually care about customer service and have cheaper drinks. The food is overpriced and not good on top of the horrible service. Please dont waste your time and money here.

Poplar Street Pub has many personalities. During the weekdays it is a nice place to stop and have lunch and maybe a beer. The weekend nights are packed with a younger crowd that are out for the night looking for other down town revelers. I enjoy the food and place both. 8/26/13 It has been at least a year since I have been in Poplar. Travis had us a round of drinks quickly and made a great recommendation of the French Dip sandwich. Still a great spot. The new outside bar is pretty cool too, glad to see they got this up and running.
