Sorrento was packed and crowded when I went, and while the server I had was nice, the staff was stretched too thin. I typically judge Italian by the Romano Tagliatelle (i.e. Chicken Alfredo) and the Lasagna, paying special attention to the texture of the noodles as well as the richness and purity of the sauces. Additionally, I pay special attention to the bread and any sauces/spices that accompany it. However, I didnt order any of these on this trip. We started with a small pepperoni pizza since they do not provide any bread and oil, which I consider to be a tragic misstep. The pizza itself was above average and tasty, especially the pepperoni; although the sauce was good there was not enough of it, and the crust left something to be desired. I certainly wont be coming here to get my pizza fix in the future as there are better options (Florios, Julians, etc.). Next was the spaghetti carbonaro. I appreciated the intricacy of this well-executed sauce, but I dont care for the recipe. The bacon and especially the onion distracts in ways I personally dont like from the parmigiano white cream sauce (should have just ordered the Alfredo). The noodles were well-cooked. The final dish I tried was one of their specialties - rigatoni alla sorrento with homemade Italian sausage, hot cherry peppers, and pink sauce (mixture of red and white sauce). This was an excellent dish. Ive had the somewhat uncommon "pink" sauce before at other places, and no one does it like Sorrentos. The sausage and the kick from the cherry peppers added additional flavor that makes this dish (new-to-me) one that will be on my short list of Italian favorite dishes. In short, Sorrento is very good Italian, but not my favorite. I dont like that they dont bring free bread and olive oil to the table. Also, some of the recipes are neither the best (e.g. pizza) nor my favorite (spaghetti carbonaro); however, they definitely know how to cook as the rigatoni alla sorrento exemplifies. My Italian top 5: 1) Piccolos, 2) Tre Trattoria, 3) Sorrento Ristorante e Pizzeria, 4) Osteria Il Sogno, and 5) La Foccacia.

Crappy service will destroy the possibility of good food. My first experience was probably about 8 or 9 years ago, when I was in my late teens/early 20s. Unfortunately, I could not recall the quality of the food, because the service was so terrible due to the fact that we were rugged looking young adults, and the assumption was we were not going to tip well. Unfortunately for the waitress, all of us were excellent tippers, but she got what she deserved, which was the pithy gratuity amount she needlessly charged us. I gave the bus boy a bigger tip directly in front of her. Fast forward to 10-9-10, and I finally chose to give this place another chance. I came with a friend of mine, and the place was certainly packed. Long story short, two tables got up and left after we arrived, which were then promptly filled after we had already been seated. The mistake was choosing to service the tables that showed up after we did, so we got up and left, thus sealing the deal that I will NEVER go back to this place again. We walked across the way to Volares instead, where their prices were more reasonable and the menu more varied.

I have been coming to Sorrentos for quite a few years...The food is always excellent... except for the bread...(They used to serve some really generic bread but they may have changed it by now. One can only hope) It is by far my favorite restaurant. I remember the Husband used to be run things before he got sick... .It used to be so crowded then, they added to the room. One of the waiters is still there from when we first started going. My ex used to chat with him all the time. They may not always be friendly but I think that has to do with always being so busy...All the times I have gone I might have had one bad experience but what is one bad experience...They were so busy they forgot to take our order... People get so worked up over food... I dont live close to AH so I dont go all the time, but If I am asked where I want to go, I always want to go to Sorrentos... I have to say the Chicken Cacciatore is wonderful..

I have been bouncing back and forth to Sorrentos for over 10 years. I love this place. It has a great atmosphere and it appears to be a very popular place. It is unfortunate some people cannot be patient and actually wait their turn when it comes to food service, but as the old saying says "Good food takes time to prepare" if you cannot wait I suggest you go eat elsewhere and miss a fine dinner. The pizza is absolutely to die for. The crust is not thick nor thin and the sauce has a taste that will remind your mind and taste buds to come back for more. Dont take my word for it-taste for yourself.

So it started out fine... We arrived and ordered our food but then it all went wrong... It took forever to for the table to get their food and then mine never came. We are on lunch so time is already short so this just made everything worse. Mine did not finally show up till after everyone else finished eating and had paid. They did at least not make me pay for the meal but they ignored us the entire time and avoided making eye contact instead of letting us know that they had messed up. I will never go back and will never recommend this to anyone.

We drove five hours into San Antonio to dine here as we did while we resided here and were extremely dissapponted with the service and the prices they wanted to charge for a childs fried chicken breast with no side item. The service was despicable and we shall never return. I suppose pleasant memories of an establishment cant always be relived. The manager and wait staff had no customer service skills and the service was worse than we had in restaurants in Europe. Highly dissatisfied. Pizza was very greasy and chicken was burnt.

Anytime I am ever in San Antonio again, I will be back. The food was delicious, the service was super friendly, and they even stayed open late for us (we unknowingly walked in 5 minutes before the kitchen closed). I loved the Cannelloni, my husband loved the Red Snapper, and our friend devoured their mussels in an herb butter. It was simply divine. Thank you to them for letting us celebrate our friends 30th birthday in such a great place!!!

Didnt felt welcomed or comfortable. Took FOREVER to get our drink order, food order, and our food. 1 waitress and you could see that she was a little frustrated working alone.(no help) The owner and his son was sitting at a table right behind us,but didnt help out his employee. His son gave us menus and just sat there. No team work no smiles. PRICEY even for kids plate. Food was good and our waitress apologized for the wait.

Food is amazingly good! Best Arriabiata sauce in town...just like the Arriabiata sauce that I eat when I am in Italy! Only complaint- drove out to have a celebratory dinner with my family to find doors shut and sign saying "ON VACATION." We tried to call ahead earlier but no recording telling customers that you were closed....would have been nice to know before driving out.
