The food is great but the atmosphere doesnt feel super family friendly. It was cold and they made me and my 3 small kids wait outside standing in the cold. Didnt offer a menu or drink while we waited. There was a water container but I had to ask for some. The host outside almost seemed high. He just kept smiling and seemed out of it, like his brain checked out. There was noise from all directions so why he mumbled quietly when he spoke was beyond me! As if barely making eye contact and turning away when he spoke to me made it any easier to catch what he was saying. I am visibly very pregnant and they didnt offer so much as a chair to sit on while we waited. When we finally got inside the place to wait in line is backed up to the door and so narrow! The people behind us just kept stepping on our ankles cause every time I took an exasperated/annoyed step away from them to get them out of my bubble, they would take TWO steps closer! Still wasnt handed a menu so theres no way to know what is offered till you get up to order and they like you to be prepared. I finally make it to the front and the guy behind the register ignores me to start talking to the waiters. Not even a courtesy "one moment please....after youve been standing in line for half an hour." Oh and I have Symphasis Pubic Disorder. A bad case of it, which makes standing too long very painful. Courtesy isnt a thing they care about here apparently. Not even after me mentioning my youngest who I had to carry was too heavy for me to hold but I left the umbrella stroller in the car to be considerate of the small space! Basically if youre on a date, this place is perfect. If you have more than one small kid and no other help, dont even bother with this place! So Im up at the front and the cashier talking forced me to wait with 3 hungry antsy kids for another 8 minutes. I tried to walk up and he tells me "hold on." Nice. I finally go to order and tell him I dont know what they have (since I was never offered a menu) and he makes this annoyed look on his face. I grab one of the menus on the counter (still wasnt offered one) and quickly scan. Order our food and he hands me the cups to get our drinks...while Im trying to juggle my wiggly 20 month old. Really dude?! At this point yall cant just offer someone to help me?! I go to the table and the person taking me is clueless! Hello do you not see the tot in my arms? YOURE SUPPOSED TO OFFER A HIGH CHAIR!! I had to ask for that too. I get, "oh you need one?"

As a virgin to Hopdoddy, let me explain the concept so you dont feel as confused as I was. When you get to the door, a person greets you and gives you a menu. He then sends you to "get in line". In our case there wasnt really a line, as it was 3pm. At this point, you should start deciding what you want. When you get in line, a "host" will ask for your name and how many are in your party. The host gives you a small piece of paper and tells you your table number, but you still need to stay in line. Listen carefully for the name you gave the host. The register will call you up to place your order. Order your food and only 1 round of drinks. If youre only getting soda, youll get your cups. You do not pay at this point. The soda machine is to your left, after your order. They have all their own sodas, but no sweet tea! Thats honestly my food complaint. Next, you find your table, which is labeled with a yellow tag hanging on the paper towel rack. From this point on, you have a full service waiter to bring you anything you need (ketchup, refills, extra drinks, etc.). As for the food, it was honestly good. Burgers are cooked well (we asked for medium) but they were juicy and obviously good quality meat. Truffle fries were tasty. Bummer that theres no sweet tea (this is Texas yall!) The only reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 was because, as I said, their concept is confusing to someone who has never been there before. I spoke with the manager when he came around and he explained that they are supposed to inform customers at each step. Now that I know how things are supposed to work, well definitely be back.

What To Order: Primetime Burger & Kennebec Fries When I saw there was a Hopdoddy in San Antonio, I had to check it out. I was introduced to the chain by a friend who lives in Austin Tx. The San Antonio Hop Doddy located near Fiesta Texas is a little fancier than the other locations Ive visited. Serving up the same delicious food my friend introduced me to, and that I got some of my friends addicted to. Hop Doddy has some delicious hamburgers with interesting toppings. They also have featured burgers and drinks that change frequently. My favorite so far is the Primtime, which is a Akaushi beef burger with Brie cheese, truffle aioli, arugula lettuce and carmelized onions. This burger is absolutely amazing. I tried the greek burger, and the diablo burger as well, but the Primetime is the winner. Another favorite at Hop Doddy is the fries.. they are really good.. and on a tip from the cashier, if you want fries with the chili cheese sauce but dont want a large order, you can order the small and ask fro a side of the chili cheese. Thanks! because the large is way too much for 1 person. Ive tried some of the beers, sodas and even a limited edition drink that I wish they would bring back.. It was a Tres Leches Shake, but they offer shots of liquor on any of their drinks.. I added some Baileys to my shake and man.. it was absolutely amazing.. just waiting to see them bring back that shake so I can order it again. If your a big burger aficionado, this is a place you gotta check out.. You wont find anywhere with a wider selection of gourmet burgers that all have great flavor.

Fresh ground beef with no hormones or antibiotics, cooked perfectly to your specifications. Fresh cut French fries with or without special seasonings or dips. Again, perfectly cooked. Milkshake from house made ice cream. Happy hour specials on food and drink. We had the sandwich of the day at Happy Hour price of $5, called The Doddy Dip which is moist burger patty, roast beef, provolone cheese, caramelized onion, horseradish sauce, lettuce & tomato served with au jus. All fries are Happy Hour discounted as well at $5.00. We had the Green Cheese Fries which is a generous side of green chili queso to dip the fries in. The shake was flavorful but not a thick shake even though it is served with a big straw. We went back for our daughters 31st birthday. They gave her a free shake since they dont really have a dessert menu. Great party atmosphere on patio and it is dog friendly. They even bring a dog bowl filled with water for your dog. Burgers and fries were still awesome and service is very attentive. The wait in line to order was long and if you want Happy Hour prices, get there early as you have to have your order in within that time frame. The time you got there doesnt matter.
