Quintessential family neighborhood place that screams San Antonio. Call it "real Mexican" or TexMex - which somehow got to be a dirty word despite its storied history as some of the original fusion food pioneered by our south central Texas grandmas. It is good food from friendly, attentive servers in a simple, if smallish, restaurant that gets full fast and wont be running any customers out, so go early, keep your fingers crossed, or expect a little worthwhile wait. The pork, beef, and chicken mini tacos, which come with lime and a mix of cilantro and onion, were flavorful and tender. The caldo de res was a little different than some restaurants, with a spicier, richer broth, but was remarkably similar to my grandmothers. Finally, the chilaquiles are a dont-miss for those that like them on the spicy side: al dente squares of tortilla with egg, tossed in a red, slightly spicy sauce and covered in Mexican white cheese. Simply put, the kind of place I miss when away from SA.

This place is the real deal!!! If you are looking for the best Mexican food on this side of the Rio Grande, this is by far one of the best places in town. Best of all is not super expensive. This is a pretty small family owned joint with minimal ventilation, so while the place is tight, the food more than makes up for it. The chips were warm, fresh and crunchy, the salsa was the perfect companion, not too spicy, but not ketchup like either. We ordered tacos, carne asada plate and Tex grill (has Carne asada, chicken, chorizo nopales, beans and panels cheese). Everything was succulent! Perfectly cooked, great seasoning, not too greasy and good portions. Highly recommend it and will come back if Im ever in the San Antonio area again. Good job guys, keep it up!

Some of the best Mexican food in San Antonio. Good prices and really good food. The place is a little hard to spot out from the road (its next to Pizza Hut). Its a small restaurant and is family owned. Mexican food is tasteful and authentic (real Mexican food, NOT Tex-Mex. Mom and dad literally are the cooks in the kitchen, cant get more legit Mexican food than that!) Breakfast is really good too, my fave is the Chilaquile plate w/ over-easy eggs. Ive been here a couple of times (take-out & dine-in) and gotten a couple a different plates and it was all good. I also usually take some Tamales with me to go when they just made a fresh batch. Everything tastes like home cooked Mexican food.

One of the BEST hole in the walls for Mexican food. Their breakfast is ALWAYS super fresh...hot...and made to order. They have...and I am not exagerrating...the BEST salsas I have had in San Antonio. Its really an underrated little mom-and-pop cafe. I highly recommend their tacos asadas...with guacamole...it is uniquely sabroso. you cant go wrong with any breakfast taco. They are made just right. you will NEVER get any of the rubbery stale egg flavor that you get at many restaurants. And the prices...are really good!

Green chilaquiles are to DIE for! Flavorful, tortillas stay crispy, just the right amount of cheese... heaven. I could have licked the plate! My kids had pancakes, which were really big and fluffy, and they both enjoyed. Coffee was good. Service was prompt and friendly, with food arriving quickly. Breakfast tacos are good and cheap. Cozy interior with a homey feel; they do have high chairs and were very good with my kids. Go now! Awesome food and service. I will be back when Im in the area!

This is the BEST [True] Mexican restaurant I have dined in, in San Antionio. Although small, the staff is extremely attentive, respectful and polite. The wait for a table was not long and clened the moment it was vacant. The food has an authentic flavor unlike many TexMex places around here. Anyone and Everyone in San Antonio needs to try this! The owners are from California, which bring a different, but delicious flavor or Mexican cuisine. I would rate this with MORE STARS IF POSSIBLE.

I enjoy this small family restaurant frequently, and make an effort to try different menu items on occasion. To date I have not anything that was not fantastic. The presentation of the plates is superb. The quality of the food and prep is unsurpassed.. BG is family owned and operated, and it shows. Stop in and ask Junior to serve you an oatmeal platter. You will be impressed.

Some of the best food in San Antonio. The staff are always warm and inviting. Their restaurant is small so you have to get their early to sit and eat but its worth it. I do think it needs better ventilation as you may come out smelling like you were cooking in the kitchen also but thats my only gripe. You cant go wrong coming here.

We went to our after court lunch here and none of us had eaten here before. The decor is precious, owners are friendly, and the food was delicious. I had quiche but most of my friends had Ruebens. They have locally grown items for sale as well. Definitely will come here again.

Legit, family run and low cost. What more could you want? Only thing to be aware of is they are so good they need more restaurant space, so get there early cause there are maybe 8-12 tables total. But but that case just get it Togo....you wont be let down. So good.

Delicious. Authentic. Service is good, takeout is just as delicious. Chilaquile plates are the best. Ive tried other places for breakfast but this place set the standards high the others dont compare. Tamales are also great....definitely recommend it.

By far, my FAVORITE local family owned and operated Mexican restaurant. They are always opened on time and always have what I want. Friendly and awesome service. I used to eat there 4-6 times a week. Unfortunately, I moved and am not as close.

We were 3 adults and 1 child, and we all enjoyed our meals. Service was great and so was the cost. Family owned , originally from Los Angeles, CA. To bad they close at 3pm, would like to enjoy their cuisine for dinner as well.

I have been here numerous times in the last few weeks and the food and staff are excellent every time. I love this place! They have fantastic corn tortillas that are even better than any flour tortillas that I have ever had.
