There are a lot of things I would like to do after a night of downing a few refreshments at Flying Saucer, and eating frozen treats is definitely somewhere on that list. Brindles fits the bill nicely, with local flare and seemingly homemade gelato of varying levels of craziness. Guiness? Candied ginger and Grape Nuts? Pineapple, coconut, mint, and habenero? Why the hell not? Under the pressure of immediately being next in line and the obstruction of the flavor case by another patron, I decided to go for the tiramisu gelato, a popular gelato flavor. With a smooth texture and hints of coffee and cream, its as good as you would expect, though - if Iron Chef has taught me anything - I have a hard time believing that anything is bad when you make it into an ice cream. I was worried when I learned that Brindles did not carry cake cones, as the waffle variety used in many creameries have a sizable hole in the bottom, precisely where you wouldnt want a hole when eating a quickly-melting delight in Texas heat while operating a vehicle. Brindles waffle cones appeared to be of a different make, with less of a hole in the bottom and a better taste. I was thankful that my pants remained clean for the duration of the ride home. Theres not too many gelato places in San Antonio, and even fewer who go to the trouble of creating their own flavors, so Brindles serves as a welcome consolation for when your night at the bar didnt go as well as you had hoped.

Brindles is a step up from Baskin Robins, Marble Slab, and Cold Stone Creamery, but I find it doesnt quite compare to other corporate interests such as Hagen Daz and Ben & Jerrys. Most especially, it cannot touch Amys Ice Cream originating out of Austin, TX. Nevertheless, I often leave here somewhat disappointed. Ive had many flavors. The true vanilla for instance is way too strong in that it nearly tastes like coffee. There is no dark chocolate flavor. Also the cream (or ice cream base) isnt exceptional. That is where the main problem is. I think they could use better, more high quality ingredients and this would change things a lot. The ice cream cakes are kind of dry (outside of the frozen aspect), the icing is cheap, and the ice cream is thankfully in decent amounts because its the only part of the cake that is enjoyable. In short, if I was in a bind for ice cream and Amys was closed, Id probably come here.

First time here. I was looking for good ice cream to cool off in this Texas Heat. I got a small, which is 2 scoop. I tried Vanilla with almonds and strawberry. It was so good and refreshing. I could take the fresh strawberries and vanilla beans. I tried their goat cheese and it was good. That will be in my next trip. Overall this is a great spot of you are a simple person like me, vanilla & almonds or if you like to mix, match and have exotic flavors!

They ruined this place. An employee there explained that the reason flavors are not consistent is that owners daughter now makes the ice cream, and she just eyeballs the ingredients. I got creme fraiche, which I used to really like but yesterdays batch was not very good. I also got sick after eating, and I think that flavor may have caused it. Pistachio used to be really good and yesterdays had too much almond. Tiramisu was good.

The employees were lacadaisical and looked sloppy. the glass in the display cases was smeared, smudgey, filthy. they were good a few years ago, not now though. Store overall looked dirty, got sick from the product. Yep- gastroenteritis set in within an hour of consuming their product. Avoid here at all costs. Obviously a business on the decline.

Excellent ice cream with more flavors than they have space to offer so call ahead and see if your favorite flavor is in the current rotation or just take your time and find a new favorite out of whats in the counter. Personal recommendations would be Guinness & Chocolate, Azteca, Grapefruit, Rocky Road, and their namesake Brindled.

They were out of a lot of flavors and the gelato was just "okay". Ive been a few times and havent been impressed. Additionally, their employee was apathetic at best and we felt like we paid way too much for a small gelato. Their mix in selections are pretty limited. I can think of several other ice cream type places I like better.

This has been my favorite icecream spot for many years. The quality is amazing and so is the price for the amount they give. The staff is pretty friendly and helpful and I love that they are open to pretty late hours. I really miss the green tea flavor, though, I havent seen it rotated through in a couple years...

I really really really love this ice cream, the atmosphere & the workers in there too. But, I really think its overpriced. For a small ice cream its about 5 dollars, not including the add-ins or anything like that. I really cant imagine spending that much on ice cream, but it is delicious, Ill tell you that.

This place was Amazing. My wife and I stopped by for Gelato. I got Creme Brule and cookies-n-coffee Gelato while my wife got Mango and raspberry gelato. The feel of the store was perfect. The staff were friendly and the service was amazing. I would recommend this place for a casual date night.

The ice cream is lick the bottom of the bowl amazing! Also the carrot cake is some of the best that I have had in San Antonio! I got the butterscotch, fudge, carmel, toffee ice cream and didnt add anything to it. My friend got orange sherbet with jelly beans and it was amazing too!

Great flavors and mix-ins. They have your regular flavors, some sorbets, and the occasional special flavors such as chocolate jalapeño. Their cones and waffle cups are alright but I prefer their ice cream on the cup. They are popular so they do get occasional waiting lines.

Offers ice cream, gelato and sorbet so something for everyone. They taco sundae is what brought us here and it was as hoped :) The cake batter which is one of my go-to flavors, did not live up to ColdStone so Id choose something else in the future. Bathroom was unkempt.

Ive decided: this is by far the best ice cream Ive ever had. Why? Because the flavors are always spot and true to the description. The consistency is smooth and creamy. The staff is always friendly and offer up suggestions. Try the Coffee Toffee flavor, its amazing

Do they always make the customer wait for someone to come to the front?.... No one came to help me. I stood there for quite a while. It looks like they have a very creative variety of icecream but I suggest going elsewhere. This shouldnt happen.
