It seems like if a person gets surprised by the same type of think over and over again, you would eventually learn. I love good food and seem to often be surprised by how good the food can be at "bar" or "tavern" type places. Whether it be how good the hamburger is at places like the "Loon" in Dallas or any number of other places, I think I go in all too often with a mentality that the food cant be good if it is a fun night life type place that doesnt overly advertise their food. Once again, I am proven wrong. The food at the Back Porch in Grapevine is really good. Definitely not gourmet, but good Texas comfort food. The two meals I have had there that made me so impressed were the Fried Catfish and the Jalapeno Burger. Catfish is surprisingly hard to find around Dallas and good catfish even more so, and theirs is very good and served as all you can eat on Mondays which is a pretty good deal. The Jalapeno Burger was a nice twist and I am a sucker for food with a kick and all too often restaurants dumb down the spice. I had that on a weekend when they had a local singer songwriter performing. The atmosphere is what you often think of as Texan or see in the movies but dont often find. Needless to say, I am a big fan and will be going back for more. The location is very convenient but cracks me up because it in a nice clean shopping center and once you go through the doors you feel like you are in Blano, Kerrville, or Fredrickberg.

Positives first I guess. The interior was actually quite pleasant. Unfortunately the name was rather misleading, but it wasnt necessarily disappointing. The Texan (brisket sandwich) was absolutely incredible though. Whoever yall have on the smoker is 100% indispensable, because that sandwich was amazing. The food alone is enough to keep me coming back. The music was also good, but theres a downside to it. The place is just too cramped. Unused chairs at each table were uncomfortably jammed together, and trying to just sit down was a challenge (even with a reservation where they knew we wouldnt be using all the chairs). The service was awful. From reading other reviews it looks like we were the outliers, but the waiter kept mixing up orders and I never once got a refill the entire hour I was there, even when he was clearing off plates a foot away from my empty cup. Finally, the music was deafening. I dont understand how the employees there dont have hearing damage, because not only do they have live music playing in a relatively small, enclosed space, they have speakers helping to blast the music all throughout the restaurant. I could barely even think, and having a conversation with the person next to me was all but impossible. It was nearly enough to simply leave within the first 15 minutes. The deliciousness of the food is the only thing that kept us from doing just that.

I went to back porch on may 31, 2014 to see the Tejas Brothers play. The performance was great but the food & service not so much. I ordered a salad (pretty hard to mess up right?) The salad had chicken slices on the top of it. After I moved the chicken to the side i went to mix all the vegetables together. In doing so i found an insect crawling in the bottom of my bowl. I notified my server. He took it to the back and came back to tell me that they were going to make me a new one and that the bug flew out after he took it back. I became very angry because he lied to me. I told him I did not want another salad. This insect was not a flying insect. I took 2 years of biology, environmental science, and i have done my own personal research in the past. And it doesnt take anything but common scene to see it had no wings to fly with. This means that either theyre kitchen or supply has insects in it. I have worked in a restaurant in the past. If anything were to be wrong with someones meal we would make them a new one and give them a discount on their ticket. If it was something that serious we would have paid their whole ticket free and gave them a card to come back and eat free again if they liked. I didnt even receive an apology. Infested and horrible customer service. I strongly recommend eating somewhere else.

Comfortable and fun local restaurant. The Back Porch has a very comfortable Texas feel. The waitresses we have had, have always been almost overly nice. Their food is not gourmet, but it tastes like home cooking and is very nostalgic for me. Whether it be their brisket (which is my favorite), their chicken fried chicken, their vegetables, or their cobblers, I love it. They are probably known just as much or more for their singer songwriters who play at night but I am usually there for lunch but more recently have been going to the live music. I would recommend their lunch to anyone. Very tasty. As I have gone to hear a couple of bands play there recently and remembered how much fun it can be to hang out and listen to real live music. The have karaoke one night a week and open mic night one night a week. I think the karaoke is Thursdays and the open Mic night is Wednesday, but it could be vice versa. I dont usually go for either of those. They have live music every Tuesday, Friday and Saturday, so I think those are the time to go. Tuesdays music starts at 8pm and on the weekends 9pm.

Went there late July 2016 for company dinner on Trivia night. The trivia man and woman were so load, using huge speakers, we could not even talk at our table. Waitress came and took drink order, wrote down our name and drink then would bring out 1 at a time screaming "who had a miller Lite" No idea why she didnt look at the list she just wrote down. It took an hour to get another drink. Dinner was even worse everyone ordered and once again she wrote it down on her note pad then came out 1 meal at a time saying who had this! one meal was served at 7:00 and some of us were still waiting for our dinner at 8:45, almost 2 hours later!! I would not go to this place to eat or drink anything, food was horrible and so was the service. Save your money, go somewhere where they value their customers.

Be warned-not family friendly environment at all. Naked lady pictures on the walls, definitely the bar type environment .We waited 1 hour 20 minutes for our food with starving children while management sat around asking customers to karaoke instead of checking on service. Boasted famous brisket all thru the menu, yet when ordered was told they were out. There is no kids menu. The food was okay other than the nachos were very bare of anything except chips and had to ask for additional cheese brought out. Overall very poor service. Management was notified of discrepencies and issues but we still paid full price for our meal. We were on a family trip to Great Wolf Lodge and googled close by family friendly restaurants and its site looked fairly promising. It definately was not. Thumbs down...
