Summary: My wife & I had a horrible time eating here. The place feels likes its owned and run by kids from the high school home economics class. At a cost of $35 for two people, I would not recommend this place. I can think of 100 better places to eat for the same or better price. We left feeling extremely disappointed. We ordered: 2 iced tea, appetizer of Potato Skins, I had the"Rio Grande", my wife had the chicken fried steak with mash potatoes & salad Service & staff: The waitress took our order and returned about 1min later with my wifes salad. We ordered a starter of potato skins and she brings the salad for her main meal first??? Not a huge deal but strange to us. The ranch dressing with the salad came in a plastic container and they place the container "IN" the bowl of salad. To take a container that someone has touched and place it on the food someone is supposed to eat is just disgusting in my opinion. 3min after the salad came out, a cook from the back brings out our potato skins. I thought it was strange that a cook, not the waitress, was bringing the food but the reason why the cook herself brought the food was just awkward. The cook sets the potato skins on the table and then says, "my co-worker told me that these look horrible and I shouldnt serve them, but I told him that you wouldnt care after trying it". I was just blown away at this comment. The cook basically just told us that she agreed with her co-worker that it looked horrible but she still wanted to serve it because she thought it would taste fine. The cook hung around the table as if waiting for us to eat right in front of her and review the food directly to her. I told her everything looked fine to get her to leave so we could have a moment to eat without someone over our shoulder. I mean, what am I supposed to do? Tell the cook their food looks like crap, now please go back and re-make it. I dont like spit in my food so of course I say everything looks fine. The same cook did the same thing with my main meal. She brought out a burnt skirt steak and insisted I cut into it right in front of her after I told her "it looks fine, thank you". Review of potato skins, $6: These potato skins were just one big burnt greasy mess. It looks like they were deep fried or something because the grease was extreme. Only 3 skins for $6 Review of Chicken Fried Steak, $10: My wife ordered the meal with a side of mashed potatoes and a salad. My wife said the chicken fried steak was very chewy and the few bites she ate had to be swallowed whole because it was so tough. The whole plate including the mashed potatoes where absolutely covered in white gravy. When my wife ordered her 2 sides (mashed potatoes and a salad) the menu said nothing about mashed potatoes "and" gravy, so she was a little surprised to see them buried under it. She was disappointed that the mashed potatoes seemed to taste like the gritty stuff that comes out of a box and not homemade. The salad she never tried because the plastic dressing container, that everyone touches, was placed right on top the salad. That is just disgusting. Review of the "Rio Grande", $13: The meal comes with a small skirt steak, 2 enchiladas, rice and beans. I was a little surprised to be asked by the waitress how I wanted my skirt steak cooked being that it is such a thin cut of meat and Im used to it just being cooked like fajitas, until done. I told the waitress to just make sure it was done well, and they took that to heart. The steak was WELL done for sure, and so dry it could probably be marketed as jerkey. The rice and beans overall were ok, but there was so much queso underneath them that it was hard to get a bite that wasnt covered and overpowered by the taste of the queso. The Spanish rice was nothing special, but good. It tastes like the stuff you can buy at the store for $1/box and cook at home in 5min. The beans were not bad. The enchiladas are not anything to brag about, but the place doesnt claim to be a Mexican restaurant so I wasnt expecting much.

Visited yesterday. Bottom line, it was OK, not great. We usually go to Mavericks when we are looking for a steak in the Floresville area but thought wed try Trail Riders. Nice atmosphere, not noisy like Mavericks usually is. Now Ive read the Chicken Fried Steak is good but I got the Ribeye, my wife a sirloin and our daughter a cowgirl steak. We were greeted and seated upon entry and were asked if we wanted a table or a booth. We were escorted to a booth and asked if that was OK. Not a big deal. Waitress was attentive and did a good job throughout. Seemed like the beer on tap was limited. They were out of a couple of varieties. Got the Fried Mushrooms and Onion Rings to warm us up. They were good, both were served very hot. Our Entrees came out fairly quickly, before we finished our salads but again, thats OK...better than waiting a long time for them. Ribeye was good but not great...seemed like it hadnt been seasoned. My wife said the sirloin was good. Both the ribeye and sirloin were served as requested (Med-Rare). The cowboy steak wasnt cooked enough...our daughter asked for it medium and it was medium rare, too rare for our daughter. Sides all were good. Prices seemed a little higher than Mavericks though it has been a few months since Ive been there. Overall okay but not sure I need to return. Personally I believe Mavericks is a bit better (though as stated, louder). Is it a place you should avoid?...Nah...its worth a try...perhaps for the chicken fried steak....others have had very positive experiences at Trail Riders, ours just wasnt the best.

Weve been wanting to try this place for awhile. Cant believe for as long as weve lived here we havent eaten here. Walked in and was immediately seated. Very nice staff. Our waitress although extremely busy in the back was great. She apologized many times if she forgot and we understood she was very busy in the back. Loved the sports memorabilia on the walls. Hubby had the chicken fried steak and boy was it a true Texas size chicken fried steak. He said everything tasted great. Delicious rice and mashed potatoes. The gravy was exceptional. I had the steak and lobster. So delicious. I was I love with the creamy mac n cheese. Loved the fried okra. Each meal came with a roll as well. We also ordered a bowl of rolls which were delicious. Nice large size drinks. Great sweet ice tea. They have plenty of seating. Upstairs seating with a bar. Downstairs seating with plenty of room, you can choose from a booth or table and chairs. The menu was diverse it had a lot of good options. If you want Tex Mex they have it, sandwiches, or just some good ole steak. This is such a nice quaint steakhouse in old downtown Floresville. Great for families or just yourself. We will definitely come back. Would highly recommend.

Their food is great. Love the steaks and ranch dressing is delicious. Havent been for a while but only thing bad I ever had was the roast beef. They must have run out of fresh veggies with the roast and substituted canned mixed vegetables cause thats the size they were cut. A friend had ordered one day for lunch and it looked awesome but it also had fresh veggies. But not on the dinner one I decided to get. It was Nasty. So could not eat it. I Will stick with steak and chicken fried steak. This was about 2 years ago so maybe they dont do that anymore. Only other thing is rolls are good but sometimes too hard.
