My Background: Ive spent 5 of the 6 last years traveling the south and West of the USA in a motorhome, and attended the 2006 and 2007 Jazz Festivals in New Orleans. I live in Canyon Lake now and had to go try Plookys back late May / early June 2007. Went at 4:30pm on a weekday to try it out. Crawfish were still in season. The prices were crazy. $14 for a pound of Gulf Shrimp? Other seafood prices were similar. Gumbo was Boudin was fine and reasonably priced, but that was it. Seafood prices: No thanks. Beer selection was very limited, some Abita would have been nice (and really not that hard to find around here). Place had family-run atmosphere and owners seemed nice... but HELLO, no way am I paying that price for shrimp or crawfish. Im sorry, I want to hang around for a couple hours, chat with friends, and eat 5 pounds or more of peel and eat shrimp or crawfish. I would rather drive to a reasonable place than go broke eating here. I wish I had courage to say something to the owners directly about their prices, but I got the impression they didnt care. No specials listed of any kind. They would do well to have a 3pm to 5pm Happy Hour with much lower prices, maybe they might get regular locals business instead of being entirely empty the 1 hour we were there. This is non-fancy place with low overhead (looked like owners might have lived at the same property? Canyon Lake is not that expensive of a place to own), why the crazy high prices?

Dropped by for an early Saturday dinner. Place is slightly run down, but that did not detour us from wanting to try their boil. We ordered half shrimp half crawfish -spicy, boudin, gumbo, sausage on a stick for the kiddo. The boil was bland, small and severely overlooked. By far the worst I have haver eaten! Boudin was good. Gumbo was made with a light roux not dark, and lacked spice, had lots of extra fillers, but was good. Everything not boiled was cooked by microwave. There was an odor in the restaurant that was difficult to bear. Not only was it the worst Cajun food I have ever eaten, but also the most expensive. For the three of us to eat, and only drink water, the bill was over $85!!!

Definitely atypical atmosphere! Very quaint, almost felt like I needed to knock on the door. No plates. Giant place mat and some paper towels. Not sure how theyve been in business for 11 years with such a blatant disregard for food safety, but the food was worth it. Tiny menu, but contained the essential crawfish boil staple items. Dont expect to find jambalaya or etouffee. I was all over the gumbo, but they were all out. (tear...) Ill bet it would have been incredible. Make sure you bring cash.

You just have to go by and say Hi to Jackie and Betty, there a blast and just about the friendliest people I ever met. The restaurant is down home comfey and the aroma of Cajun spices will definitely get your tastbud juices flowing. Then comes the food, totally awesome and cooked to Cajun perfection. Believe it the food along with the atmosphere cant be beat or copied. This is a dining experience you wont forget because youll definitely want to come back for seconds.

I love crawfishe boils!!! I was so excited to have come across this place! It was delish! We did spend a little bit of time there but we were in no rush. Its Byob and they brocade you with a bucket of ice to keep it cold! We have a Pickey eater in our family and they allowed us to bring her in other food. Loved the atmosphere! We are from Fort Worth and will be sure to visit next time we are down!

Awesome people! The food is fantastic (and its BYOB). They do a great job on the crawfish, and theyll keep them coming as fast as you want. Be sure to check out their eclectic ceiling and wall "art" . Find something I hadnt noticed before, each time I go. Best area for motorcycle riding! Try Devils Backbone. They arent just biker friendly, theyre people friendly.

I have been coming here since the place opened and even made the trip out here when I didnt live close, after eating shrimp here I wont go anywhere else. Hands down the best Cajun food I have ever enjoyed and by far with some of the best people I have ever had the pleasure of knowing. Ryan C. Whitman

It is what it is, great food, unique out of the way place. The owner will come tell jokes if you bait him on :) Nothing fancy here and that is what makes it so great. I do wish they would get better Air Conditioning, if there is a lot of people it can be warmish(not bad could just be better).

We found this place three months ago and fell in love with it. The owner and waitress are very friendly and the food is great. The decor is just what youd expect for a crawfish joint. The prices are posted on the menu; I felt they were reasonable given the quality of the food and location.

Most of the time, the shrimp have been nicely prepared and tasty. The ambiance is appropriately rustic for the cuisine - its Cajun food. The owners are very pleasant.

Crawfish is very expensive. Place smells weird. Bathroom sinks dont function. No outdoor seating. Cigarette smoking inside flavors your food.
