The servers were very nice and freindly. But this was just a strange experience. I dont know where to start. First, when you go in the door, the hostess stand is apparently not at the front. I stood in line behind people for about 15 minutes, who were all picking up to go orders, until a pushy blonde in sweatpants brushed past me, made eye contact with a waitress, and was seated immediately. I looked at the woman who was ringing up the to go orders. "Excuse me, how do I get a table? " She replied that I just had to stand there until someone got me. Finally I was retrieved by yet another waitress. So the first tip: when you go in, make your way back towards the cake stand/salad bar and try to make eye contact with a server to be seated. The second weird thing is that they only serve beer. No liquor, no wine, just beer. Ok, maybe thats a Tennessee thing? But this was very strange to me. And they didnt have anything exciting, either - just bud, miller lite, and the most exotic choice was Heineken. The salad came drowning in a delightful blue cheese dressing. The dressing was fresh and obviously made in house. It was delicious. But there was also enough of it to swim in. The tomatoes were local, flavorful, and nicely acidic. The food took so long that another waitress actually asked us at one point what we were still doing there. I replied, "uh, waiting for food". The staff were very apologetic and sympathetic but also slow on drink refills. My steak, advertised as a medium ribeye, came with the wrong side order. The waitress immediately brought me another plate, new ribeye and all, with the right potato. The new steak however looked like a shriveled hockey puck. I almost physically stopped her in her tracks, and she ended up allowing me to have both french fries and the potato with the first steak. Thank goodness. It was edible, but nothing to write home about. My kids enjoyed the pizza though it was a bit light on sauce. My husband said that the cheese steak was simultaneously the strangest tasting and yet flavorless cheese steak hed ever eaten. I did see some dishes coming out that Id wish Id tried instead. The Greek salad looked delicious and the stromboli/calzone crust looked devine. Well, live and learn. We didnt have time to sample any of those lovely cakes you see in my photo, either. But I dont think well be back to try, as I dont know what other occasion could possibly bring us back to Athens, TN. I dont think theres much else around here to try, though. So if youre in Athens for whatever reason Id recommend you try the place, if you can handle a Heineken. Let me know if those cakes are as good as they look! (But stay away from the cheese steak and get your dressing on the side).

Todays visit didnt deserve 4 stars but all our other visits have been great. Food and service is normally great. Today wasnt so great. Lets call it an off day all the way around. If you ever want pizza Gondolier is the place to go and you would not be disappointed. Today not the norm. If you are wanting any Italian dish, Gondolier is the place to go, you wouldnt be disappointed. Today was not the norm. If you ever have the afternoon such as ours. Please give them another chance because it isnt the norm. Parking is semi easy. Always busy and full. In some ways you just park where you can. Look forward to going back for our normal service and food quality.

The food is great and the service is most always good, the attitude from the management sucks. When you order chicken and it is cold in the center that usually means it needs cooked more. According to management here it means you are stupid and ignorant. Also dont expect to take a drink with you when you leave unless you want to pay full price for it. The cup they will give you is an insult as to what the drinks actually cost. I try to limit my trips to the Athens Tennesse Gondolier.

First, they have excellent service, so I want to make sure that is very clear. It was busy Saturday dinner crowd. I ordered the baked spaghetti with meatballs. It arrived reasonably fast and very hot. In terms of taste I found it to very plain or basic. The sauce was very runny and bland and meatballs were bland. The spaghetti was overcooked. I would not recommend the baked spaghetti My brother said I should have tried the calzones or pizza which he says were both good.

This is our favorite place to eat here in town. They have a pizza and salad lunch buffet for less than $6 that we take advantage of at least once a week. On Sunday, they have a buffet with pizza, salad, chicken and one other meat, veggies, dessert and a drink for about $9. They also have a menu to order from anytime. The owners, servers and other workers are all great too. Great food and reasonable prices. You cant go wrong!

Late at night wouldnt recommend they are more concerned with cleaning up than customer service. Our server went and sat down at a table with 2 other people. A customer at another table was leaving and told the cashier who then came over and took our order. Again service issue not food related. During the day or at the Sweetwater location in the evening this was not a issue

Great place! We came in less than an hour before close on Easter and were greeted with friendly smiles, as were the few that came in behind us. Food was far better than we expected from a menu that has both common favorites and less common fare. Highly recommended!

They have the best pizza I have ever eaten. I am a regular there pretty much since birth and I have enjoyed it every time I have gone there. The food is always good and there is a wide variety of pizza types and menu items.
