One of my favorite bars. No real happy hour, so it doesnt lure any big crowds in the late afternoon, which is part of the reason I come here. Theres no TV blaring, always an open seat at the bar, no fancy nonsense - just good people and good food (Best French Onion Soup in Greenville, hands down) right next to beautiful Falls Park in the middle of downtown. Im told that the late night scene hosts live music and more customers, but thats not the time of day that I usually hang out there. This bar used to be pretty small (15-20ish tables), but theyve recently expanded, opening up a large area in the back to accommodate 2-2.5x patrons. I go there to get away from all the people and noises that come with everyday life already, so while I am not likely the beneficiary of this expansion, Im sure anyone that comes to Velo for craft beer and live music in the evenings will really appreciate having more space.

All I can say is, you either "get it" or you "dont." My favorite bar in Greenville, especially on Sunday. Great food, atmosphere and clientele. If youre a snotty yuppie or a tourist who is used to eating in chain restaurants, you probably wont like this laid back, local Publick House, with its young, hip, ex-pat crowd. You want the familiar appetizers like every other place downtown, or if youre looking for rock bottom happy hour prices, stay away. You get what you pay for and the beers and specialty drinks are amazing! Yeah, a $2 domestic beer is OK, but a $6 Kolsch beats it ALL DAY LONG. For great music, interesting conversation with an educated crowd, an engaging bar staff, and delicious food, try it out!

While the menu is true to a publick house-type offering, its execution leaves much to be desired. I ordered the "Eastern Feature" which was described to me by our server as a chicken curry. While it did contain chicken, there was no curry to be found. It came with a selection of chutneys which I believe - but couldnt tell due to the lack of lighting - contained a moldy lemon variety. My husband ordered the shepherds pie which wasnt anything special. Also, their beer prices are way out of line - $6-7 (not high-grav, either). You can go next door to Smoke on the Water during Happy Hour (4-7) and get a local brew for less than $3. I will not go back.

We enjoyed the food here, but a couple of things left a bit of a bad taste in our mouths. First, the last time we went here for post-work drinks and appetizers, I discovered on the bill (after we got home, of course) that they had charged us $2 for every glass of club soda. Our bill was over $50 for beers and appetizers- and I have never been charged for club soda before in my life. Not to mention, the glass was tiny and about 90% ice. Another time we were relaxing with drinks on the sofa and chairs in front when the band came in and they shoo-ed us off. The band proceeded to play very loudly and badly, and drove us out.

Terrible service. They brought out about half of our groups dishes 20 minutes after ordering.... then the next round 15 minutes later...after an additional 15 (between 45 and 50 min after ordering), my dish arrived. Everyone else had already finished, plates had been cleared away, CHECK WERE BEING BROUGHT OUT. On top of that, the waitress never apologized or even acknowledged that I had not received my food. We had a group of approximately 15, made reservations days before, and the restaurant was not that busy. The only reason I am leaving 2 stars instead of 1 is because the food was actually good. Disappointed.

This is my go-to pub in downtown Greenville. Ive always felt at home here with all the staff being friendly and courteous. The food is excellent with the cooks willing to change it up a bit on request. The best fish & chips in town! One more thing I love about this place is that they have no TVs! Theres live music a few nights a week, a vinyl DJ a couple of nights and in general the atmosphere encourages people to mingle and interact. The decor is very eclectic and rustic, yet having attention to detail, which gives it a laid back and comforting feel.

This is where all the men have beards and/or handlebar mustaches. The women will bring books to the show off their pseudo-intellectual side at the bar. (Why not do that at home? The beer is cheaper.) Theyll say "HAVE YOU READ THE BOOK! ITS BETTER THAN THE MOVIE!" Everyone will have on skinny jeans. People are being cloned. When they come off the assembly line, they go to this place and compare skinny jeans. They are snobby. The bands play garbage everyone pretends to like. If it wasnt for that, it would be a nice little place.

Mother and I went for lunch yesterday after reading their menu online. The food was delicious. Mom had the prime rib sandwich and I had the onion soup and salad. Prices were reasonable and the service was excellent. Our only issue with this place was the cost for a glass of wine, it was 7.99 per glass of Reislingl!!! We did not bother with a wine list or ask the price but we will ALWAYS ask the price of a glass of wine anywhere after this lunch. Be warned to ask the price because this was not acceptable.

Great selection of scotch and whiskey. The appetizers are massive, homemade, and delicious. They have a limited selection of tap beers but all of them are good. They have an extensive selection of bottled beers located in several coolers behind the bar. Wait staff was attentive, friendly, and knew the menu. It can get crowded, has limited seating and can be quite loud so I would have to say it isnt kid friendly. Either way, good food, good drinks, good vibe.

The food here is phenomenal! Everything is cooked to order and the portions are worth the money! The pita chips and pimento is great for an appetizer. The tater tots are a perfect appetizer if you plan on eating a salad or soup for your entree. I recommend the Cuban sandwich, the shrimp Po Boy, or the fried green tomatoes Po Boy. Great atmosphere and friendly wait staff! It is located in the same building as Mellow Mushroom! Go ahead! Give it a try!

I am failing to see all the rave reviews about this place. Ive been twice now, and both times the food was abysmal. The flavors were overwhelming (and not in a good way) and the everything from the appetizer to the entree seemed fresh out of a microwave. Its not that I dont like the type of food, its just this food. The service was adequate; nothing great, but not bad either. The concept is a good one, but the execution lacks.

The prime rib sandwich is a real winner. The French onion soup is also. Always ordered with crispy fries/chips. Craft Brew is plentiful here, but if youre looking for a budget buzz; the "beer N a shot" special is the way to go. There is a $5 version with Coors and a $6 version that includes one of their house brewed beers. Consistent quality service. Great food. Better beer. What more can you ask for?

Great service, great food, and great beer. This place is tucked away in Falls Park, the perfect setting for it. It carries traditional bar food with some English ones as well. I had the Bangers and Mash and it was wonderful. Everything was homemade. Their fried cheesecake is so good. We had it with four people and it was the perfect size. I will definitely be coming back here.
