Update to review below. I must be persistent as we tried it yet again. The staff were friendly, we had a great waiter, the food was good (as usual) and the kitchen was exceptionally quick. It was very nice and much different. Nice work on the issues. We have tried this Kanpai repeatedly in order to offer them the opportunity to get it right. I think just because we really wanted it to compare to the full service Greenville location. The quality of the foods offered are just fine, usually just a little slow. The service is what always leaves us disappointed. e.g. On our second visit we actually heard the manager tell the waitress to charge us for something they cooked that was not ordered, saying that we probably wouldnt even notice. There always seems to be miscommunication between the wait staff and kitchen. I think were giving up hope and calling it quits on this one.

I went to the Powdersville Kanpai yesterday and all I gotta say is I wont be back . Really strange layout with all Half booth half Hard chairs . But that really doesnt matter to me when it comes to Sushi . I ordered a Smoked Salmon roll and their Version of Smoked Salmon is the Canned Smoked Salmon that has the same consistency and Texture of Canned Tuna. I almost spit it out . Ive never seen anything like it . How they serve that as smoked salmon should be a crime . I didnt even get 2 yellowtail Nigiri I ordered or Rainbow Roll I Ordered . I didnt say anything cuz At that point I was happy it never came . Server was Nice though . She did as good as she could and gave us a soup and salad for waiting so long , but most all the other employees were acting like animals in the back screaming and yelling . Was def the most bizarre sushi dinner Ive ever had....lol

Me and my wife are having date night this evening and our server was a gentleman named Cole. Really nice young man he took our order brought back our drinks and everything was fine and I explained to him that I have an allergy when it comes to avocado he stated okay as if he was going to take it off. Im not sure what happened where they forgot to put it in or the kitchen neglected to see his note but our first pieces had avocado in it. But he handled the situation like a champ and he even Incorporated his manager in it and she comped our meal he even offered to pay for my Benadryl all in all I think it was a pretty good experience.

How does this place run with a front of the house manager that is blatantly rude to her staff as well as to the guests?! (I think her name is Mari?) Not once did I hear the say please or thank you. I really liked the food and the wait staff. Its a shame that someone who is supposed to be helping the restaurant run smoother is actually hindering it from its full potential. Oh and if you have celiac or are gluten free... Be prepared to be told (by the manager) that you cannot have anything on the menu even though its not the truth.

I love Kanpai. While it is different than the one in Greenville, it is still good. It is more of a sit and eat, than a show. Can get crowded due to the size of the restaurant. The food is great and there is no comparing the sushi to Dozo and Nagoya. People say it is more expensive than Dozo and Nagoya, but this food much fresher and has better ingredients. I will always choose them over any of the other Japanese places in town.

Management sucks, kitchen is great but slow, servers are AMAZING. Every time weve gone in there for sit down or pick up alike, weve had excessive waits well beyond what we were promised by the manager, and while the food is worth it, we wouldnt keep coming back if it werent for the service staff. They know how to step up and make things right and are very personable and helpful. Go just to tip them, theyre champs.

Great experience here! People said it was crowded but its a small location so its to be expected and slow service? No I had my food in ten minutes as quoted plus they were busy so all in all awesome place! And to who ever said they use a different white sauce, its called shrinp sauce and its because its made from scratch there that makes it appear different.....

A lot of differences from the kanpai on Haywood road. They use difference rice, different white sauce. The service was very slow here. Just a whole different vibe. Also, when I was there the hibachi chef went outside to smoke and the whole restaurant started to smell like cigarette smoke. Very small and crowded here.

We go here every week either on Monday or Tuesday for the happy hour. It goes from 430 to close and the prices are AMAZING! The food quality is fabulous, but do expect to wait if you get a roll that has a lot of different ingredients. The beer and saki prices are pretty outstanding as well! No complaints here

Great hibachi and sushi. You cant beat the Happy hour sushi prices either. Dont come here to watch sports tho, (unless your a NC basketball fan). Some skinny dude, i think from the kitchen, controls the tvs. Im really not sure what his actual job is. Hes just always standing in front of the tubes.

I moved to this side of town and have missed "my" Japanese restaurant since I moved. I had tried several different places on 153 until I stumbled upon this place. LOVE. Everyone has always been so nice and the fact that they offer a rewards program is awesome!

Weve never had a bad meal at kanpai. The food is always good, and the servers are fast and friendly. Even when the place is packed you dont have to wait long for your meal. The sushi is my favorite and grilled meals are good too.

The food tastes okay, but they mess up orders. They are more expensive than Nagoya and Dozo which are right across the street, and their food isnt as good. We gave it a few shots, but havent had a good experience yet.

Nice to add variety to Powdersville! However, once seated service was slow, waiter argued rather than answer a question and the food was all cold except the shrimp. Wont go back.

Good food and the staff is pretty friendly. My husband and I have been here about 4 times now, each time has been good. They offer great happy hour sushi and other specials.

My husband and I came here for our anniversary and everything was amazing. The food is good, the prices reasonable, and the atmosphere is very nice, even as busy as it was.

Used to be great. Its ok now but I could have sworn this was a Japanese restaurant. Where are all of the Japanese cooks. Was looking for the tacos in the menu.

Horrible service. We received none of our soups and only 2 of our salads. The chicken was cold and the steak was like leather. I would not go back again.

We love their shrimp terriaki & their spring rolls but I gave them 4 stars bc sometimes when they are in a rush their rice can be crunchy & under done.
