The food is delicious, service and customer relations are a negative star. Before you read this go to Dats. Prior to dinner, we had Dats cater our event for lunch. They were respectful and had plastic to prevent spillage. We had terrible problems with the catering services from the taste of India. We ordered food for a relatively small event of 60+ people. Rice, bread, and four liquid based dishes. I dispatched my students to pick up the food in a Toyota corolla. Granted a relatively small vehicle. I trusted that the organization would treat us well as we had had zero problems with the lunch delivery a few hours prior. During the food transfer into the car, the owner commented on the "smallness of our vehicle." My students responded with: yes it is small and we can make two trips if needed. The students were under the assumption that the owner/manager did not believe the vehicle was large enough "hold" all of the food. They responded by saying: That the car could handle the amount of food. The owner/manager of TOI decided that this was enough for him to claim no liability for what happened next. The owner/manager brought all of the food out and started placing them into the vehicle. Having far more experience with catering than all of the parties involved, the owner negligently filled the corolla with large foil tins that are made for hotboxes. These were not heavy metal pans. These tins were not in plastic bags, or plastic tubs (again Dats did both of these things for us). The pans were malleable tins that can easily bend and fold with any disturbance. The result was a trunk, a back seat, a front seat, a floor mat, and the carpet below the mat, covered in tumeric staining liquid. In other words, my vehicle has been turned into a yellow mess. At least four of the containers released liquid. A phone conversation resulted in the owner backing out of any responsibility. I received no apology and no recognition of guilt. The quotation from the phone was this, "once the food is out of my restaurant it is not my responsibility." From my conversation I feel like this has been an issue before. The reason TOI should not receive your service: 1) The owners should not have assumed we were going to bring a flatbed truck for such a small order. In the event that we did not bring such a vehicle, remedies for a potential spill should have been taken. 2) These provisions should have been in the form of plastic tubs/containers/totes that would contain any spill. Since they did not provide these provisions, I feel their trust of their customers is low. Dats cared, dats covered us, Taste of India did not. 3) And this one is important. We are on the second floor of a building. The pans are so flimsy that when carried more then 15 steps (especially up stairs), they begin to bend and head to the weight of the food within. Even those pans that were not leaking prior to arrival on campus inevitably released some liquid while being carried. The result was some of my students getting the staining liquid on their clothes. 4) Taste of India transfers all blame on the ignorance of my students and myself for not having the knowledge of how well Taste of Indias containers can take a drive from the restaurant to Ballantine hall. Tin covers are not water proof, they are not meant to prevent more spillage than the transfer from kitchen to hot table. Very upset. The inside of my vehicle will never be the same. ... There are so many alternative services who would be far more professional then this restaurant. They apparently do not have experience dealing with customers who have not dealt with their food on a regular basis... Avoid this restaurant.

Weve been to Taste of India several times. However, we WONT EVER go back again after our experience today. The biggest problem: the owner showed an unthinkably bad attitude and no respect for his customers. His attitude was defensive and his language was offensive (e.g., keeping asking us "... Do you understand?" when he talked to us and not listening). What happened: When we complained about the shrimp in our shrimp curry not being fresh, a guy (who actually turned out to be the owner) came out and insisted that the shrimp was from a newly opened bag and should be fresh. (Our intention was to let the owner know so that they dont serve it to others. Thats all.) I later told him Id like to speak to the owner (now to complain about his attitude). He said the owner was not in and we can leave a note if we want since nobody in the restaurant has the authority to talk to us. I then asked a female server who the owner is and she told me that the guy I talked to was THE owner. It is unthinkable that the owner of a restaurant would pretend that he is not the owner--as a response to customers request to express their discontents. After half an hour we came back and asked for the owner again (because we were just outraged by the way we were treated). He then finally admitted that he was the owner and he did not admit it because workers in the restaurant were equal partners and nobody worked for nobody. (WHAT???) The owners wife then apologized and refunded our dinner. The lack of honesty and earnesty in the first place left us a very bad impression and an outrageous dining experience. We wont step into that restaurant again. A restaurant does not deserve any customer if the owner cannot stand up and say to his customers "Yes, I am the owner. What can I do for you?"

I wish I could give this restaurant zero stars. First of all I went there for lunch buffet at 2:28pm and they told me to have a seat and start the buffet. They told me that they wont be refilling the food as it is close to the closing time of 3 pm. At 2:40pm they start wrapping up everything and the food was gone. So I just had started my meal with a sabji and nan and there is no food. But the worst thing is the guy working there was extremely rude. I asked him to bring nan and sabji which he brought from inside and yelled at me that "this is last time". I felt as if I was given food by mercy in a Shelter house. It seemed like they were in hurry to close restaurant and drive us away. But no matter what you get, you still pay full price for lunch buffet. I will never come here again and that is for sure. Wish I would have gone to other Indian restaurant which were close. I have been great fan of Indian food and was exploring this place. The place is just shame on its name "Taste of India". I would strongly suggest to avoid this place at all cost. If you like Indian foods go to India Garden and Amrit India, which have better Indian taste and more importantly, nice and polite people. A great suggestion, if you still decide to visit, try to come before one hour of closing, so that staff is not crazy to close the place and leave. The food taste is similar to other Indian restaurants nearby in those areas.

I used to eat here all the time. By all the time, I mean once a week. I used to order food from them and everything was fine. Until recently, they began becoming very stingy with their portions. With every dish, comes an order of rice. Well I ordered 3 dishes, and only got one rice. Indian food cannot be eaten without rice. I assumed it was a mistake so I called them, and the person who picked up told me "That is the way it works. You order food, we provide rice". I told him that we always got our proper portions of rice. He told me he did not have time to talk to me. Who the hell treats their customers like that? He then started yelling at me. Not to mention, i found foreign things in my food that were NOT supposed to be there. They are nice at first, but then when you pay them, they will treat you like crap. They dont give enough food, they over charge sometimes, and they mess up orders all the time. When i say i want something mild, i get spicy. and then when i call them to get it fixed, they tell me "too bad" If you want Indian food in Bloomington, go to Shanti...VERY good! WAY better food, WAY better service.
