My first test of a Pizza in America as a foreign student was in Scranton at Pappas Pizza on Washington Avenue in 1973. We were poor student and could afford to eat there only once a month. Price was $1.25 and in those days it was enough for two of us. Since then, I have eaten Pizza at many different places but nothing like Pappas. It was one of the best Pizza. In 1995, I brought my family to show U of Scranton and sure we visited Pappas Pizza. Unfortunately, it was very busy and we could not get seat over there. I am planning to visit one more time this summer and this time for sure I am going to eat over there.

the only place in scranton where one can buy normal pizzas! Normal and round and so great you will definitely need napkins to dab of that grease. alternatively one could hold the slice in the air and let the grease drip off, though you will run the risk of all that delicious cheese (oh so terribly lacking on traditional scranton pizzas, honestly what the hell?) dripping off as well. great personal pizzas and fast service. theres also a cozy train display that surrounds the dining space, which is fun for kids.

A high school fav I still love 40 years later (a longer lasting romance than those I had with my ex-wives, by far). My kids--from out of town--call it "the desert pizza" because of the caramelized crust and overall richness. My guilty pleasure is the bacon pizza (a rare treat), and their steak n cheese hoagie is a superior product, too.

Whenever my family comes up to Scranton to visit relatives we always make a pilgrimage to Pappas. The pizza is loaded with grease (which of course is not healthy, but I dont care) something you dont find in Houston, Texas. My whole family loves it and we sometimes end up bringing stacks of it when the extended family gathers.

Local landmark, always activity going on with 10 high school kids behind the counter. In my opinion pizza is a little greasy but others seem to differ. This is the City of pizza and everyone has their favorites. its good but not my favorite.

Incredible cheese, no need for xtra cheese. Great 10 inch pizza. Many pan cooked pizzas have lousy crust, but this crust was good. Toppings were loaded on, sauce was ok. If you want some of the best mozzarella, get yourself some Pappas!

Ive had Pappas several times over the years. They type of pizza I only like once in a great while when Im in the mood for it. Its quite greasy, but consistent and those who enjoy it swear by it.

A Scranton must. Youll either love it or hate it - pizza is served on a personal pan and youll probably eat it all in one sitting. Be adventurous and get an interesting mix of toppings.

One of the worst pizzas I ever had. Greasy cheese, sub-par sauce, terrible under- cooked crust. This pizza makes the Steam Town Mall food court pizza look gourmet.

The best pizza in the Scranton area. If I had one complaint, its that the pizzas are so small. Dont expect to feed a family of four with one tray.
