DONT WASTE YOUR MONEY!!! BAIT AND SWITCH!!! We ordered 5 dozen cupcakes with their signature "spikey flower" design. The flowers are featured on their website as well as found in their in-shop photo books (as well as on cakes for sale in their in-shop coolers). It should have been a slam dunk - afterall, this is one of their signature designs, right??? WRONG.... Imagine my disappointment when I saw the cupcakes that were picked up today (for an event tomorrow) and found that the flowers we were given were only 1/2 the size of the flowers we were shown as samples. To add insult to injury, theres an ugly unprofessional looking border of icing ringing each flower. I could have made better cupcakes in my kitchen at home with my 2 year old... Did I mention they taste old too? It seems ike they baked the cupcakes a few days ago and then iced them today. When the owner was consulted she was rude, defensive, and completely unhelpful. She refused to acknowledge that her employees made a mistake and she wouldnt refund our $100 deposit nor would she have the cupcakes remade or offer us a discount off of the several hundred dollar order price as a way to make amends for their horrible product. I will NEVER purchase anything from this place again and I will be warning all of my friends and family (including my Yelp family) to avoid them at all costs. In case youre wanting a good laugh, heres what a store employee said to me when I called to complain later in the afternoon: "The employee who took your order isnt aware of what the decorators are capable of doing. The decorators didnt call you to get an OK for the changes to your order because they just decided that their solution woud be ok. Im sorry theres nothing I can do for you." Are you fing kidding me?!?! The employee taking the orders doenst know if the decorators can accommodate the orders shes taking? And the decorators are given license to make unilateral decisions regarding changes to the order without first consulting the client? WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE EXPERIENCE EVER... DONT WASTE YOUR MONEY - YOULL GET BETTER SERVICE AT WAL-MART..

I dont understand how people can give this bakery a bad review over one bad time. These are the people that will give bad reviews on any place is they are unhappy over one thing. They are probably the ones that freak out over their dinner at a restaurant. Anyways.... Ive been at this bakery five times (with two of the times picking up a pre-ordered cake). Each time, the staff have been SOOO nice and sweet. The baked goods are amazing (I personally love their thumbprints) and their cakes are neat and beautiful. If this is your first time ordering a dessert, I suggest buying their Heavenly Chocolate Torte. Its amazingly good! I believe its their top seller! Some prices may be high but its worth it and its not like grocery store baked goods. Most prices are reasonable I also buy some of their bread which has been delicious. Recently, I picked up some of their doggie treats which they now sell. My dog gives them great reviews too! Happy baked goods shopping! By the way, the are the bakery of the Pittsburgh Pens...so you know it has to be good! =)

We ordered our wedding cake from Pastries a-la-Carte recently. It was very beautiful and delicious, exactly what we wanted. They were very professional when we met with them for our tasting. This was the only bakery that gave us our own whole cake to taste and take home with us. A lot of bakeries just gave us dried, small pieces of cake for a tasting. They were comparable in overall price to the other bakeries I received quotes from. However, they were also the only bakery that was able to include all of our servings in one large three-tier cake, rather than back up sheet cakes. To purchase the same size of three-tier cake from many other bakeries in the area, we wouldve had to pay almost twice the price or choose a very small three-tier cake for the same price of the large, beautiful one we bought from Pastries a-la-Carte. The cake was also delicious and very well balanced. If you dont want something made from a mix or overly sweet icing, this is the bakery for you.

Special ordered a cake for my daughters birthday last year. I went in person to do so, and I talked with the staff for a while about what I wanted...even pointed to a picture of what I wanted and had her scan it and attach it to my order. I went to pick it up and it was absolutely nothing like I ordered...they straight copied the design from the plastic decorations and did nothing that I wanted to the cake. When I expressed my dismay at how wrong it was, the manager offered a paltry $10 off. When I refused to take it at that price (it was an expensive cake), she went down grudgingly to half-price. As I was leaving, she told me that I should have come in person to place the special order". When I angrily told her that I had done just that and they messed it up despite that, she ran off to the back without a word. I will never shop there again...which is unfortunate, since they are the closest bakery to me.

We order a birthday Cake for a 7th birthday. Asked for a rainbow buttercream cake with happy 7th birthday writer on it. The icing was not buttercream and they left out the 7th. The birthday girl would not eat the cake because the icing, it had no flavor and was not sweet at all. When I called I was told they have two types of buttercream and their original buttercream isnt very sweet but the Alfie one is and she is sorry they didnt offer that to me... We spent $70.00 on this cake for the birthday girl to no even like it or eat it. Was offered a 10.00 gift certificate for forgetting the 7th but nothing for the horrible icing and ruining this little girls birthday. I have order cakes from them in the past and never had an issue, just very disappointed. I would think for the amount of money spent they could have atleast offered more!!

We ordered a cake for my baby shower from Pasties Ala Carte- this place was highly reccomended, but what we received was terrible. I sent a picture of what I wanted and asked if they were able to do it, they said yes, placed the order and what was received looked like an amature made it- I had people remark that they could have made better and they dont professionally make cakes. The second tier of my cake was to be chocolate- it was, but when we cut into it, it just fell right apart into crumbs- we couldnt serve ANY of this section. It was terrible. The cake was dry, the inner strawberry filling was a strawberry gel and there were hardly any real strawberries in it. Not sure how this place has gone so far down hill, but I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE AT ALL!!!!

Have always had very good experiences at PALC. Weve ordered birthday cakes for my little kids birthday parties and theyve always done a lovely job. The almond batter is delicious and the raspberry almond torte is amazing! Absolutely must try. We get it whenever we find an excuse to celebrate something. Was able to get a 50% off 10"round raspberry cake randomly from their display case. No complaints. Prices can be high but if you areWQED members you get 10% discount. Definitely recommend.
