THIS PLACE IS AWFUL! I was optimistic at first because the main room only had one empty table and all the diners seemed to genuinely enjoy their meal. Also, the decor is pretty typical for neighborhood mex-joints...good sign. I ordered a huge beer (servers recommendation because it was a 32 oz for $4...i think) and my friends ordered a pitcher of margarita. They were weak...tasted like sour juice and WAY overpriced. We ordered a guacamole and chips appetizer since we ate the first basket of chips and apparently you have to pay for a 2nd (seriously, this was a bad sign, I shouldve walked out the door but I still had a monstrous, cheap beer to drink). The guacamole came out and we stared at it in shock. It was neon green and smooth (smooth guacamole? bad sign). It looked like it was freshly squeezed out of wal-mart wrapper. gross. The entree menu seemed extensive. (bad sign...jack of many trades, master of none). I was surprised to see "sopes" on the menu. These are like a hearty tostada. Super easy, but Mexican restaurants hardly carry them (not sure why since you can buy them pre-packaged and usually taste pretty good). Anyway, I ordered a cheese enchilada and veggie sope combo. I had asked the server what was on the veggie sope since its normally served with meat on top and she just said "different veggies". Ok. so i didnt ask for a list. nevermind that...The sope came out and had refried beans on top with cheese and lettuce. right next to it was a side of refried beans. annoying. oh, they were definitely canned-refried beans too. Ok, so they dont have time to make fresh beans...they couldve tried to add some flavor though and maybe added a variety of veggies to the sope. The sope was pre packaged, the beans were canned, the lettuce was lettuce. The rice was salty, but surprisingly the best part of the meal. The enchilada had gobs and gobs of cheese and the sauce tasted like it was from a can. not good. I didnt finish my meal...this is a rarity. Let me sum this up: decor: good service: ok food: nasty beer: cheap recommend: no

This is the worst Mexican food I have ever had. We only ended up here because Mineos across the street had an hour long wait for pizza and we were hungry. And we regretted every minute of it. I ordered tamales and my wife ordered carne asada. They clearly do not know how to cook steak and half the steak was cooked an the other half wasnt in fact the steak appeared as a tiny grey tasteless slab. They offered to fix my wifes order but just threw the same piece of steak back on the grill and turned it into shoe leather. It was inedible and disgusting. The order for pork tamales looked appealing but was also a huge disappointment. They give your a sizable portion but could only choke down one before calling it quits. They had ZERO flavor and it took me an entire glass of water just to down one. Ive had tamales all over the country and these were the WORST. Our flatware and glasses were dirty. We requested new beverages which only came after they returned my wifes awful meal. The hostess was rude, inattentive, and unhelpful. Their attempt at amelioration was unsatisfying. We paid for our meal and left it untouched on the table. Horrible.

Im seeing tons of negative reviews for Cuzamil, but my family and I went there last night and had a great time!! This is beautiful little tradtional Mexican restaurant, and most people want Americanized Mexican. I believe thats the reason for all the bad reviews. We only waited 15 minutes for our food FROM THE DOOR. We had five people in our group. The chips were hot and the salsa that came with it upon being seated was delicious, and I dont usually love salsa. My partner got the platter, and tried nearly all of the food on the menu. He has traveled the country and had a lot of good food and thought that Cuzamils food was great. The slope was very good, as were the tamales. The kids loved the nachos, tacos, and chicken fingers. Everything was hot out of the kitchen, and the waiter was very polite. We didnt get our drink refills, but there was only waiter as we had come in right before closing, and right after us three different groups poured in. Id definitely go back to Cuzamil!!

This place must be having problems. I went for dinner thirsty for some beer. I dont know much about beer, but asked for Dos Equis, which I know is common, and was advertised in the window. The server didnt think they had any, and suggested Corona. I agreed, but all they had were tiny 7 oz bottles. I ordered the poblano chiles rellenos. I have had lots of chiles relleno but none like these. They had some overwhelming sauce on them, couldnt taste the pepper at all. It came with the usual beans dried crusty under the broiler, rice, iceberg lettuce, etc. All in all, pretty dreadful. I guess one could argue that one shouldnt expect quality Mexican food in Pittsburgh. Still, when it is prepared so carelessly, its a bit of an insult. Taco Bell is better.

This was the WORST experience ever. I purchased a Groupon for a lunch special and the waitress refused to honor it. She told me that I was required to have 2 people present in order to redeem the voucher---this was not true. The voucher said that I needed to order 2 entrees. It said nothing about needing 2 people. She was stubborn, ignorant of the Groupon deal, and unwilling to serve me. I reported the restaurant to Groupon, and they said that they have reported the incident internally. A review may be underway if other Groupon customers have additional unsavory experiences. I obviously cant tell you about the food, but the service was really awful! Buyers beware!

Ive read the other reviews. The waiter that drew so many complaints is gone. I appreciate what one reviewer said about the chiles rellenos vs. chile poblanos. Actually, the difference was explained to me when I initially ordered the chile rellenos. (Maybe they learned from the other patrons review!) So I did order the chile poblanos, and it was the most delicious I have ever tasted. The place is clean, and the service was prompt and cheery. I also appreciated the nice selection of tequilas, about a dozen brands, and some advice on a couple I had not tried before. I am definitely going back-- tomorrow!

Not a place to take large groups; they dont have the kitchen or wait staff to cope with it, even if they have the table space. It may be a different experience for a couple on a quieter night, but my group sat down at 7:30 and only got our food at 10PM. Waters were refilled only once during that span, after everyones glasses were empty. The server also seemed frustrated when delivering our meals. I wish that they had just been honest about their ability to deliver a good dining experience to a large group and told us to go elsewhere. It would have saved us two hours and them this review.

My first clue should have been that it was empty at noon. I ordered the taco and rellano lunch special. What came out was a taco and a lump of ground beef with a few slices of green peper around it . I asked about this and was told by some woman that is a rellano, you want the chille pablano. What?!? a rellano is a rellano. There is only one way to make it. It is a pablano pepper stuffed with meat or cheese, egg batter dipped and deep fried. Period. The same the world over except for this dump. Never again.
