Went to order General Tsos Chicken along with my girlfriend and I had explained to the cashier that we wanted no MSG in our General Tsos Chicken, because it causes us to have very bad migrains or headaches. The cashier had at first acknowledged our request to not put the MSG in our food, however as I and my girlfriend were waiting outside a prominent member of the management that was seated inside had informed (yelled at) their employee or cashier. It was easy to see from the manager yelling at the cashier that our request would not be fulfilled. The cashier kindly came outside to inform us that the General Tso Chicken has a premade mix that includes MSG and if we would like to order something else as a replacement. It had seemed as if the manager did not wish to have another batch of General Tso sauce cooked up to accomodate the order or that in fact all customers who request no MSG are lied to and get MSG (a little bit as the cashier stated) in their food regardless even if it is health concern to them (migrains...headaches). I had informed the cashier that we would like sweet, and sour chicken as a replacement. The manager did not want to oblige as again she had yelled at the cashier with a very stern look or one of distress. In the end, we settled for chicken and broccoli which I honestly dont trust eating after being lied to about the MSG. Its not possible to see they had taken out the MSG with previous orders and then say its in the mixture of the sauce and a new batch cant be made. I believe a restaurant has the obligation to fulfill such a request. Please do not eat here as the staff has been very dishonest about the ingredients in their food.

CAVEAT EMPTOR. Their food is good. HOWEVER, their customer service is atrocious for take out. I asked for the snow pea greens, the man, that answered the phone, Jack, said they were out. When I asked for a suitable replacement, Jack said he didnt know. I asked for other things, described by memory from the Chinese menu (which is not online). Jack didnt know, I asked him to physically look in the menu and Jack yawned and said, "I dont know...I have another customer so I cant help you." They do not know their own menu and if you describe to them in great detail the dish that you want (from the Chinese menu which is not online), they yawn. Ive ordered take out in person on a previous time, a different person was similarly unfamiliar with the menu to the point of my complete frustration. Not to mention if you actually sit in the restaurant, be prepared for the ambiance of crashing bowling pins (upstairs is Forward Lanes). I typically spend between $60-$80 for Chinese take-out. The food is good, but my threshold for sub-par customer service is super-saturated. I went to Szechuan Gourmet.

Our first couple dinners were great! Traditional Chinese cooking with authentic taste. However, our subsequent visits were less than desirable. Items were served with ingredients missing, and quality of the dishes fluctuate too much. When a once award-winning restaurant has staple dishes that are this inconsistent, it doesnt bode well for the restaurant. (Experiences based on both dine-in and take-out)

The food was very tasted and seemed quite fresh. The service was good - we asked for both menus. The photos and translations were very helpful, and our server helped answer questions. However, the floors and bathroom were filthy. The bathroom was nearly out of toilet paper and completely out of hand towels. Definitely go for the food, but steel yourself against the decor.

If you are looking for authentic Chinese food, this is the place. I used to think Ma Po Tofu was bland, until I had it in Beijing, and it was just as good at Chengdu Gourmet -- spicy, lots of Szechuan peppercorns. One clue that this place is good is the fact that the English signage seems an afterthought, and the fact lots of Asians eat here. It was YUMMY!

Just shared 5 dishes from the authentic Chinese (not American Chinese) menu, all very good. Nuanced use of spices (not pre-mixed 5-spice, which gets tedious). Good, balanced use of real szechuan pepper, fresh-made chili oils, chilis. Special mention of the twice cooked pork belly, the pea shoots, cumin lamb. Extensive menu. Best Szechuan in Pittsburgh.

The food was outstanding for the value. It was nice not to see the same rehashed dishes tailored for "Western" tastes, I would recommend ordering one extra dish for the table to all share, which definitely helps one expand their culinary horizon without feeling like theyve been ordered something completely off putting.

Seriously great, and there will be something for everyone. They have hot pot, a full "Americanized" menu, and a full "Traditional" menu. We ordered from both, and loved everything. Really cool, and with a menu as long as theirs is, Ill definitely be back to try more. Highly recommend. Also, BYOB.

I was fixing something next door and went to the back where there is a shared storage area with Chengdu. I saw 3 raw ducks partially in a bus tub on the floor in front of a fan. They were there over 2 hours!! The temperature in the back was 100 degrees!! I suggest to all not to eat there!!!!!!

The Chinese menu here is a must. Flavorful as well as spicy. Dont be silly and order a dish just for yourself. This is the sort of place where you order things family style. Look at the other diners tables. Gather around your varied dishes and dig in.

The American menu is just so-so by anyones standards...but the Chinese menu is killer, with tons of options. Really fast pick-up. The inside of the restaurant is boring, but whatever; you didnt come here for the decor, did you?

I ordered sesame chicken and shrimp lo men to go. Food was not good. Very upset especially when it was so expensive. The lo men taste like oodles of noodles and the sesame chicken was salty. Would not go back

The menu is very similar to Sichuan Gourmet since the chef used to work there. Having tried a few things here, like the double cooked pork belly (回锅肉), it seems that some items are better here than at SG.

Amazing authentic Sichuan style food! Feel that I am back to China. Most important, I see the food safety official (not know the actual name) here. They also gave a good comment.

Consistently good Sichuan. Possibly the best in Pittsburgh. Just.. please dont be the person who orders from the American menu. The Sichuan options are delicious.

Ive never had a meal here that was less than great. The crispy chicken with dried chilis is out of this world. This is my go to place for my days off of work.
