I should have known when we walked in and saw food on the floor, food in the booths and a spoon laying in the middle of the floor. We should have left right then and there, but we didnt. It quickly went down hill from there. Our waitress, who we were informed had just walked in for work, approached our table coughing in her hands. Not terrible, but not instilling any confidence. I ordered a hamburger and fries. When I received my order there was a little plastic cup of the most disgusting, rancid mayo I have ever seen. Not only was the mayo congealed on top, who ever spooned it in the cup attempted to mix it so the congealed mayo was all throughout the little cup. I put the mayo to the side and decided I would not be using it on my sandwich. The last straw came when I found hair in my burger....hair that clearly was not my own. When our waitress came to check on us, I gave her back the mayo and the burger. I asked her how they could serve such disgusting mayo -- that they could poison someone. She didnt seem overly shocked at what was handed to her but she did apologize. She offered to bring me something else but I declined, not trusting what they might bring me. She did take the meal off our bill, which was the least she could do. I was expecting a manager to come and apologize - - that is what is done in well run establishments -- but none came. From the condition of the dining room, there does not appear to be a manager of this restaurant who knows what is going on. My sister had doubts about her rueben and suspected her slaw was less than fresh. As were were leaving, a woman in front of us at the cashier line was commenting on something she found in her food. The cashier laughed it off and said, "thats what makes it taste better." Really? With that attitude, no wonder this restaurant is so disgusting. I will NEVER go back to the Trolley Car Diner!!!

I am an African American man who lives in Mt. Airy. On the first day of Spring my daughter and her friend asked me to take them to Ritas for free water ice. I told them that we would go get better tasting ice cream from the Trolley Car Diner. We got there and had to stand in line to order. When it was time for us to order my daughter and her friend made their selections but I was still unsure. I asked the waitress about the different flavors and she offered for me to taste one. As I was tasting the ice cream a young White lady behind me said to the waitress, "Im in a rush, I need to order." The waitress said, "one minute sir." and walked away from me to take the young ladys order. I said to the waitress that the rude woman was not entitled to order. Despite my objections the waitress walked away and I had to wait to be served. There was no apology or even a thought that what just happened was wrong. I would love to think that this was not a racial issue but the truth is the truth. As the Trolley Car Diner sits on the border between Mt. Airy and Chestnut Hill it is to the Diners best interest to treat all of us like we are paying customers. I felt horribly discriminated against because the woman came in there looking and acting like Paris Hilton and the waitress was so afraid that she was seen giving the Black guy quality service while making Paris wait that she forgot all her manners. I wonder if this is a taught behavior at the Diner? At any rate I will never eat there again and I will advise all of my friends, Black or White, not to eat there either.

Got to the trolley at diner @2:45pm we were seated shortly afterwards only to wait an additional 35 minutes for our food. While it was not crowed, (maybe 3 other tables) the air conditioner is turned on which is blowing directly on us and after requesting to the staff, 20 minutes later, the air is still on and still no food. Well, my sister notices a spider directly above my head climbing down his web and we moved to another table. Afterwards I asked for the manager, and he comes over and states that hed have to contact the owner to turn the air off because coincidentally the owner controls the air from home. The manager agrees to take something off our bill for the inconvenience. The food comes out 5 minutes later and I have no turkey bacon which I requested and my niece has a filthy knife and I go to pick up the sugar and an ant crawls towards my plate! UGH! Needless to say, my appetite is gone and still i have no bacon. It was a horrible experience! Our waiter never came to check on us and now, Im done. No more trolley car diner for me. NASTY place to eat!

My husband and I just moved to Roxborough from MA, and so far the Trolley Car is the only great breakfast. Weve tried every greasy spoon in Roxborough (and there are a lot), but the food was always bland or the place was dirty. We came here for breakfast at 8:45 on Saturday morning. There was free parking in the lot and no wait. Our waitress took our order and within 7 minutes our fabulous and tasty food was ready for us to devour. I got the veggie omelette (without cheese) and it was the best Ive had in a very long time. Even without cheese it was moist and savory with fresh veggies. The potato pancakes were tasty too and good with either syrup or sour cream. The coffee was also fresh. My husband got the french toast, two eggs, bacon, and toast and he devoured it. He didnt complain, which makes me happy that we both found a place we really like. I took the leftovers home and just reheated them in the toaster oven and they were still delicious. We will definitely be back very soon.

The good: The food at the Trolley Car Diner was pretty good. Aside from a chicken mushroom soup that clearly came from a bunch of cans, the grilled chopped sirloin I had was meaty and delicious and the gravy was quite good. The mashed potato croquettes were absolutely yummy - I certainly recommend trying those as your appetizer. The bad: The service left a whole lot to be desired. After a 40 minute wait to be seated, the slowness of the server meant our order wasnt taken for another 10 minutes. 20 minutes to get our appetizer, 10 more to get my soup, 10 more to get our food (which was missing items we were charged for, though they were taken off at the register). Then after we were finished, we had to wait another 10 to get our check. All in sum, we arrived at around 11:30am and didnt leave til well after 1pm. Trolley Car may be a victim of its own popularity, but I cant help thinking they could step up their game and get all five stars from me based on the fantastic food.
