I travel to Lancaster several times throughout the year, and have always enjoyed dining at the Log Cabin. I recently visited the restaurant, not realizing that the owners have changed. I must say, I’m not sure what the new owner was thinking. This beautiful setting and building has been turned into a cold, unwelcoming, run of the mill establishment. The linen tablecloths are gone. The beautiful ambiance replaced with a noisy bar crowd, and inexperienced servers. I always felt welcome here in the past. The previous staff always remembered me even though I only visit a few times per year. This past visit, I walked into an overstaffed, brightly lit restaurant I barely recognized. My wife and I ordered a bottle of white wine, of which they were out of. Our second choice was not even cold, and we actually had to wait for the bartender to chill it. A “fine dining” restaurant that doesn’t have chilled white wine? By the time it reached us, it still wasn’t the correct temperature. The server knew nothing of wines, and many of the wines on the list were lower end. I ordered the NY Strip Steak, medium rare. It came out medium well. Again, I had to wait. The entrees are accompanied by nothing. Everything is a la carte. My wife and I dress for dinner. I was appalled at the guests dining near us who were dressed in jeans, and tennis shoes. I travel to NY and other large cities and have dined in some of the finest restaurants. I used to compare the former Log Cabin to these restaurants based on the amazing food, wine selection, and atmosphere. Now, I would compare the Log Cabin to a chain, and sadly will not return.

A friend and I recently decided to have dinner at what we thought was The Log Cabin, which is known as being one of the best and one of the only fine dining restaurants. We loved it before, and it was always nice for special occasions and such. Imagine our horror when we walked in to a completely changed atmosphere. No tablecloths! We were seated and on our table were some other customers to go boxes, full of their half eaten meal. After a too long wait to be greeted, we ordered and received drinks that were weak at best . It was bright, and the noise from the servers station right near our table never would have happened in the log cabin we know and miss. Our bottle of champagne we ordered (by number, also not fine dining) was warm. The server was very nice, in fact that was the only semi decent part about the evening. But she took our champagne and I assume put it in ice to chill and then brought back that same open bottle. Our meals were nothing special, and were auctioned off by the bussers. None of this was remotely what everyone knows and loves about the cabin. I strongly suggest anyone who enjoyed the fine dining experience of the log cabin before never step foot in this place, it isnt remotely close to how nice it was before. I will forever miss what it used to be, a place to look forward to. We will never return

Stopped here completely by chance and had a great time! They ended up being in the middle of brunch, and the brunch menu had a great variety of options. Once we ordered they brought out a mini muffin sampling and fresh butter, which was delicious. I got an arugla/radicchio salad with berries and creamed goat cheese, granola crumbles and lemon/poppy dressing. It was delicious!! It was a very generous portion too, and only $12. My husband got the 2-day marinated fried chicken, and we were amazed that the chicken skin was crisp and amazing flavored yet not overly greasy!! The chicken itself was very moist, and the sides delicious as well. My brother got the duck and was equally as pleased. It was served over a chive pancake and a savoy syrup thing. He loved it! We also loved that the chicken and duck were from a local farmer. We also got a side of red potato home fries and bacon. All were delicious, and again we noticed that the bacon was flavorful yet not overly greasy. We liked the creativity and execution of this menu, and highly recommend! We also loved the ambiance. Yes it is a little pricey, but to be expected for this venue.

Over he last 50 years, I have dined at many restaurants in the US, UK and Europe. I had dinner at the Log Cabin on consecutive evenings and I rate the food equivalent to the best Ive ever had - and yes, that includes several of the best restaurants (with World renowned Chefs) in Burgundy. House salad was outstanding as were the entrees that I chose - Rainbow Trout and Seared Duck Breast (Excellent). Vegetables were cooked to perfection and delicious. The wine list was limited, but more than adequate.Addition of some of the better Argentinian, Chilean and Australian wines would be a plus. Malbec was a notable omission. Desert (a Chocolate Mousse with Fresh Berries) was excellent and, although I didnt try it, the Creme Brulee was the traditional, unadulterated Vanilla Bean recipe. My only complaint concerns the bread. Although baked on the premises, it had been (I believe) warmed in the microwave and was completely devoid of the crustiness that one would expect and that no French Chef would be without. Easily remedied ! Service was courteous and quick and the Waiter remained vigilant and attentive.

After a long absence 4 of us were looking forward to a dinner and a time to catch up with each other. Being the first Saturday since reopening under new ownership, the restaurant was understandably busy. The service was exceptional but it was down hill from there. We were seated in the garden room. On either side of us were tables of 6 or more. The acoustics were horrible. We could barely hear each other speak. So much for a quiet dinner and a time of catching up. The meal came and one of our party selected the salmon. Turns out the dish was only half cooked. Alerting our server it was removed and a replacement provided. Unfortunately that salmon was undercooked as well. A member of management came out to apologize and attempted to excuse it off due to it being a very busy 1st Saturday night. They did comp the meal. I believe in 2nd chances and may return to done after they have been open for a while. As for now, when you make reservations, refuse seating in the, garden room and do not order the salmon.

This was our first time back to The Log Cabin since the change in ownership. My wife and I were happy to see that some things remained the same. The atmosphere was very pleasant, and the staff were courteous and attentive. The food selection was good. I was worried that the new owners would limit the menu to trendy food items only. However, the menu had a good balance of fish vs. meat choices. My steak (ordered medium-rare) was done to perfection. My wifes well-done filet was still soft and juicy enough to be cut with a butter knife. It was quite obvious that the chef put some thought into the presentation. The only down-side was a limited dessert selection. But the rest of the meal mostly over-shadowed this shortcoming. Youll spend some cash here. This isnt Friendlys or you local diner, but the price is worth it for a nice night out with someone special for some very good food and service.
