My husband has taken me on a surprise getaway weekend. We don't have a ton of cash but decided to splurge and dine at a place that seemed a little nicer. I called and found out we had to have reservations so I was excited. We walked in and the place was empty! The bar tender yelled "someone will be right with you" 2 minutes later a girl walked by and said the same thing it was probably 5 minutes before we sat and were informed that our waiter would be right with us.. He was there a few later. We ordered drinks and looked over the menu... Everything sounded so good so we decided to get 2 dishes we both love and share... We also split the Calimari. That was tasty. We waited probably 20 mins after that for our salads. Oh and we had to ask another waitress who brought us the app for our bread (if you have herbs and oil on the table the bread should be a given. The tossed salad was kind of potent... Kind of like the greens didn't mix well either. We waited another 20-25 minutes for our entrees... I got filet which was listed as cooked in garlic herb butter but was completely tasteless. It was not seared it was mushy. The best tasting thing on the plate was rice pilaf which is sad for a$30 plate. People who came a full 30 minutes after us got their entrees same time. Oh and my husband ordered veal Parm.. It tastes freezer burnt and over cooked at the same time. Our waiter was awful but was redeemed by an amazing waitress who was the only redeeming factor to our visit. Including tips we paid 70 (after sending the veal back and not paying for it) and ended up at a rite aid buying frozen foods for our hotel microwave. I wouldn't waste your money. It was loud by the time it started to get people but wasn't even full when we left. It was dark, dirty, and expensive. I shouldn't be paying such prices at a hotel in a Howard johnsons basement that has hockey sticks on the wall.. Save your time and money.

We stumbled upon What If... of Hershey while looking for a place to stop and eat while passing through central PA. I found it on Yelp and immediately noticed that many of the reviews started out by saying that you shouldnt let the fact that its in the basement of a Howard Johnson scare you off. My first thought was that I should continue my search, but after reading a few rave reviews, I was convinced we should try it. Now, here I am writing one more review that tells you not to let the fact that its in the basement of a HoJo scare you away. Everything at this place was great. It was all made fresh. We even had to wait a bit for our tiramisu for dessert because they were making it fresh. Also, who wouldnt love a place that has a polenta of the day?! (The polenta was delicious, by the way.) Its all served in a modern atmosphere that is in stark contrast to the HoJo lobby that you pass through on your way in. The presentation of their fresh delicious food is as modern as the atmosphere.

Just went there last night looking for a slightly upscale dining experience. The place was dark and crowded. The food was well presented but essentially flavorless. The water tasted like it was directly out of the tap with a heavy chlorine taste. Maybe thats why the lemon was already in the glass when we came to the table. The service was efficient to the point of rudeness. We had a great deal of difficulty maintaining table conversation because the tables were so close together. And then there was the owner (I think) who spent15-20 minutes at the table next to us doing card tricks (of all things) with the patrons. He was loud and annoying. We just gave up on conversation for the duration of that little show. The dress was eclectic. I wore a sport coat and slacks. The table next to us had jeans, sweatshirts and Steelers caps. All in all, Id say go somewhere else if you can.

Atmosphere was great. Service was awesome. Brushetta appetizer was excellent. Salads and dressings were very good. BUT DINNER WAS TERRIBLE. Sent my veal frangelico back to be heated because the meat, mashed pototoes and broccoli was barely room temperature. Came back on a different with half the amount if food it left with. Potatoes still cold and any coating on the veal was gone. My husband ordered the bone-in ribeye med rare..... came completely cooked brown throughout, same sides so same issues. My daughters pasta Bolognese was a greasy mess with no actually red sauce in sight . Check totaled $115. Not sure who prepared the food to get the past ratings, they must have not been there this evening. Additionally, the same issues with the table nearby.

What If...Of Hershey is located in the Howard Johnson Inn with a private lot. The restaurant is downstairs. As you go downstairs, youll see a bunch of large vintage advertisements. On 6/11/2016, we waited for the restaurant to open for lunch. Considering we were the only ones in the restaurant, the service was a bit slow as we waited 30 minutes for food. My friend got a Mushroom Swiss Burger with French Fries while I got a Sesame Chicken Salad. I was disappointed they were out of the citrus vinaigrette. I liked how crispy the sesame chicken was and how it was prepared. I also liked how the salad came with sun dried apricots and almonds. However, I felt like the field greens wasnt very fresh and the honey mustard dressing had a bit of a kick to it.

Went with my family for my neices birthday. Three of us had to send our food back because it was barely warm (my lobster ravioli was luke warm and rubbery when returned). We ordered our kids ice cream for dessert, and after a half hour i asked the girl at the front to check on it for us as we had not seen our waitress in a long time. Most disapponting part was the manager never came over to even offer an apology or anything. I had one glass of beer and was told that they had to run out to get more beacause the keg was empty. Sorry, when you charge $7.00 for a glass of beer, this is bad management. Will never return, disappointed as Ive been there several times and always had a pleasant experience.

Very disappointed with most recent trip to What if... Have been here before and the food was on point, dont know what happened. The calamari was greasy instead of light and crispy, the scallop appetizer was just wrong, though cooked nicely, why would you but scallops on top of overcooked, flavorless lentils and then sprinkle peanut crumbs over top. It was a total miss. The eggplant dish was a soggy mess and tasted gross with the melted feta. My pesto pasta dish was oily and bland. The side salad was almost all greens. The only thing I liked was the lobster ravioli someone else ordered. This place has really gone down. What if... your customers never come back???

I have been here a few times before, and it was great then. Recently though, we heard some mixed reviews, but we still decided to go again. That was not a good choice by any means. We had a party of 7, and out of all of us, likely, the only things that we enjoyed were our drinks. Everything else was bland. I personally had a filet mignon and it was probably one of the worst filet mignon that I have had in my life. It was just bland! Like everything else! Everyone in our party said their food was bland. Although, the dessert was okay. Despite it being good before, the mixed reviews and my last experience here, I will not be going back here again.
