I have a complaint Id like to register: their meatball sandwich has ruined me for other meatball sandwiches. Its actually hard to describe the experience of eating this sandwich without sounding like the kind of crazy person who leaves their husband to marry a sandwich a start a reality TV empire, so I will just say that every bite was perfect and beautiful. There are four meatballs, so you can divide the sandwich exactly in half and pretend like youll save half of it for lunch the next day before devouring the whole thing. Each meatball is perfectly cooked, juicy and flavorful. The bread is the perfect vehicle for so much meat, cheese and sauce - somehow both sturdy and soft, never becoming too saturated to hold in your hand (Bunk, Im looking at you). There is so much cheese but it someone pulls apart with every bite, never dragging off the top as a whole piece to dump sauce down your shirt. And the sauce... its all over the sandwich, with more for dipping. I defy you to see the little sauce pot sitting in front of you and not lick it clean. This is a transcendental sandwich. It will change what you think a food as simple as the meatball or the sandwich can mean to you. But be warned: if there are other meatball sandwiches you also would like to try, do so before you visit Shut Up and Eat. Once youve had SU&E, all others will be but a sad simulacra, no more than scented dust in your mouth.

I have been a frequenter of Shut Up and Eat since they were a lonely little food cart in a desolate pod that is now, likely, an apartment complex. Now they are in a nice brick and mortar and I couldnt be more happy for them. The sandwich that enamored me to this spot is the Broad Street Bomber. Now, I am not a Philly native, nor do I consider myself a cheese steak connoisseur but I can tell you that this is a darn good sandwich. I get it with both sweet and spicy peppers and I add mayo. I have been known to finish a whole Bomber in one sitting, but it takes grit and determination. Really, it should come with a pillow because you are going to want a little nap should you polish one off. I would love to review other sandwiches but I have never been able to bring myself to order something else on their menu. The Bomber is just THAT good. One day I will get the Italian or the meatball, but not just yet.

We drove out of our way to try this place cause I was looking for the best baked grinder in could find. Unfortunately this was not it but it was OK. The cook needs to learn how to layer a sandwich so it depends on who you get making it most likely. My bread was crunchy and warm bit the meat was in stacks and cold in the middle like they just slapped 6 pieces stuck together on it. It just wasnt hot enough and little to know flavors other than the lettuce and peppers. I got the Italian and I had it in my head it would be like another Italian sandwich from a place I used to live and it failed in comparison. Not to say it was bad but definitely wasnt what I was hoping for. Ill shut up and keep looking for now.

I may have a new favorite sandwich joint. Had the chicken parm. Every single component was amazing. A freshly breaded chicken cutlet, perfectly fried mingling in with cheese and marinara. All of these components in a baguette that is just the right amount of chew to it. And not like of the the fully loaded sandwiches that I have had, one pitfall many of those have is their bread is either overwhelming and too chewy to hold all the fillings, or the inverse of bread that cant take the pressure of all the stuff loaded in and it becomes mush and you have filling all over the place. Will be back again and again.

Waste of money. The 6.75 half sandwich is tiny! Maybe 4 inches long, cut from a 2 inch wide "loaf". They serve it open face so it looks bigger but we were so disappointed. They provide a fork because all the foofoo lettuce topping literally cant fit into the tiny bread so they fall all over off the sandwich. Mine was toasted but the cheese didnt even melt, I found maybe 3 pieces of pepperoni thickness meat buried under lettuce and veggie toppings. My husbands sandwich was a different kind, had meat but was so drenched in a cream sauce it ruined the meal. Decent fries but the order was also very small.

I was excited to find a place with decent subs, but Ive gotten crappy service enough times that I now avoid this place. Which is a shame, because its mighty tasty. Last time there, I ordered a sandwich to go, and a beer while I waited. I was extremely hungry. I confirmed the cashier had my name and tipped (very well). I sat at a small table, drank my beer, waited around 40mins, then politely checked on my order. "Oops, looks like we gave it to someone else. Well make a new one." Half hour later I got my order. I wasnt offered a "sorry", let alone another beer or something extra. Not going back.

A breakfast spot that doesnt open until 9? Sure, your food is awesome, but this is the THIRD TIME that Ive tried to eat here only to be told, rudely, that youre not open yet or you are "about to close" (yes, you denied me service at 8:42 PM because you close at 9). Strike 3, guys. I know Im not the only one whos experienced your snooty "sigh, um, were not open yet" attitude. Not even a "thank you for stopping by, please come back in 15 minutes!"?????

This sandwich shop came highly recommended and it did not disappoint. I tried the St. Bomber (philly cheese) because that seemed to be the rave on all the Yelp reviews. I got it with both spicy and sweet peppers and it was delicious. My only beef is that the sandwiches were a little messy (oily). That didnt stop me from devouring my entire large sub. The service is very good and the price is relative to the amount of food you get. Go get you some.

Its in my hood and I love the food. My fav is the meatball sub. Its a little spicy and they give you a cup of sauce instead of drowning the sandwich. Their subs are toasted or panini style. They have that unique Portland spin - they add green veggies (not lettuce) to the subs. They have some great specials ... like pork roast sandwiches. And you can go for breakfast. They also do a few special cocktails which is great for non beer drinkers!

I truly liked the sandwich, it was pretty good. Not sit around and wait 45 minutes good. I ordered the Italian and when I finally received the sandwich I caught attitude like I should thank the server for gracing the presence of their store. This type of attitude shouldnt be a surprise from a place called "Shut up and eat". I guess I am going to call my business with them "fine, never going back to hipster sandwich shop"!

My friend and I came here before a concert not knowing what to expect. Boy did we get a surprise! This place has awesome sandwiches and the lady that took our order was so helpful and so excited about every food item she was telling us about. Once we got our food we were even more excited because the sandwiches were absolutely amazing! I cant wait to go again and try another one of their master pieces.
