Its a pretty sweet place. The decoration, lighting and vibe are perfect: warm, cozy, and thematic, but just divey enough to not be pretentious. The food is good solid pub food and reasonably priced. The draught beer is more than I like to pay outside of downtown, but the liquor is priced well. The 2 stars off is partially for the beer prices but also because they apparently have a policy of closing earlier than advertised. Their website says theyre open until 2 on Wednesdays, but they closed at 12. I understand that the extra 10 or so dollars I would have spent wouldnt have even covered their overhead for the last two hours, and if I wasnt a student looking for a late night place to finish my final paper, I wouldnt have cared, but it is frustrating to choose a place because of their open times only to be (very politely) made to leave two hours early. Im not saying you shouldnt go here,Im just eating and reviewing the experience I had, which is valid.

While they advertise Sunday brunch, I would not recommend going - they say they open at 10am, but what they really mean is "10...ish." If you get there right at 10 the sign will more than likely say they are closed. Inside its fine if you are looking for "a bar" with bad lighting and low quality bar food. Dont get me wrong, I have had a great brunch at other bars around PDX, but not here. The food, while not bad, is just...blah. There is nothing special about it. A friend got a "corn beef hash" which was a few scan pieces of meat under a fried egg with home fries on the side and burnt brussel sprout leaves. Biscuits and gravy was nothing spectacular - flavorless biscuits with gravy that had no seasoning. Perhaps their lunch and usual bar menu are good after a few drinks, but look elsewhere. There are better bars in the area.

I have to preface this with the fact that my wife and I are out-of-towners, and that Im never one to leave a bad review. We walked in, sat ourselves, and the bartender/waiter gave us menus and asked if he could start us with some drinks. Since we had just sat down, we asked for two waters to begin with so we could decide what to drink/eat. After that, we waited 20-25 minutes to no avail. We watched him serve the only other table in the bar and talk to the 3 bar patrons that were there. He made eye contact with us multiple times, but left us ignored. This was a first for both of us. We left mostly confused about whether we offended him by ordering "water for now," or if he really did just forget us...

A Revolutionary War-themed bar in SE Portland. Whodda thunk? Im obsessed with the attention to detail at this place -- the tables are beautifully lacquered, the decor is warm and inviting, the drinks are delicious and historically-inspired. Not only is the food delicious -- the fries might be among the best in Portland -- but the prices are totally right. $5 for mac and cheese? YES. Upstairs, youll find a library (!) and Big Buck Hunter room (because, you know, the Founding Fathers loved them some hunting) thats great for groups. If I had one complaint (other than the bizarrely curtained womens restroom), itd probably be the service, which was occasionally... unenthusiastic at best.

This is my weekend brunch go to. Great jazzy spins on simple breakfast favorites, with the option to build youre own if youre feeling like a classic breakfast. Excellent goat cheese scramble, perfectly done bacon, great biscuits and gravy and a beautiful Bloody Mary (seriously, its divine!) Never a wait for brunch served by super friendly awesome staff. Mimi and the girl with blonde/pink hair are always the best! Weekdays they have great bar food as well, love the Mac n cheese, pretzel fried chicken, brisket and fish n chips. Morning or night, you cant go wrong here! Love this place!!!

Horrible service!! Friday night, live music, one bartender, no cocktailers just several food runners... That apparently arent trained to take orders. Waited 20 minutes in line to get a beer... Its been another 35 waiting on a sandwich. Even if its really good... This was a waste of a night. Edit: the cubano is decent. No beer to accompany it because, the nice lady who brought my food just took the empty pint, would not get me another. Told me to wait in line again. It will be a long time before I try this place again... Even after hearing they have great brunch.

The food is great and the service is perfect. They make cocktails the way they are intended to be made and not premixed and pored. I love the Revolutionary War theme and the interior decorating is comfortable with a dash of formal. Great place to meet friends and hang out, eat and play games. Reminds me of the Tuns Tavern…. OORAH!

A great addition to the neighborhood. Mad Sons is a cut above most of the places around it, with a solid beer selection, tasty cocktails and food, and a decent happy hour. The interior is gorgeous, and features an awesome brand new black felt pool table.

Who doesnt love a good pub? And being from Massachusetts I can appreciate a sign with an angry colonial dude yelling with a pint in his hand. Food is good, less of the typical fried pile that you get at the usual pub. Always a plus.

I love this place. The theme is amazing (found fathers), the food is pretty, good, they have a great patio, and the drinks are decently priced. Id say the most amazing thing about this place is the interior; its seriously beautiful.

Veggie Philly and turkey sandwich was great. Very cool decor throughout w free pool, darts, or board games. The only caveat on the pool is the table is slow. That is the only reason for 4 stars.

This place is legit. Great low-light atmosphere with relaxing music. Old school American design...you really feel like youre in a different century. Definitely recommended for a chill spot to go.

Good place for brisket. Breakfast served all day on the weekends. Pretty quiet during the day, fills up with boot and flannel wearing 20 somethings in the evening.

I love this space, and their drink offerings are always solid. That said, go on an off-night, because the clientele tends to get really bro-y on the weekends.

Great pub with a great wait staff. Pints poured perfectly with a great selection. If I make it back to Portland, this spot will be on my list!

Good selection of beer. Interior is dark and pretty small. Service was okay but not great. Overall good for a quick bite and a good beer.
