Drinks were terrible. We had a long Island iced tea and a bellini special. The long Island was so strong with no coke in it we didnt drink it. Bellini was room temp. Nobody asked us if drinks were ok even though they sat untouched through the entire meal. Pasta carbonara was swimming in alfredo sauce, not the traditional egg, pancetta, parmesan. The veal parmesan was tasty but so much water on plate from steamed veggies the bottom side was soggy. Ordered a molton lava cake to share as it was a special celebration. The center was rock solid Gamache and cold. We picked at it and told the waitress when she finally came back to our area after we flagged her down. Told her the dessert was not molton, she took it without asking, didnt offer to replace it and didnt take it off the bill. Nobody ever asked us how any if the food was, when we asked for more bread to go with our $10 Appetizer they told us they were out. We dropped $100.00 plus tip on a sub par dining experience. Overall very disappointing.

Good service, and OK bread. Thats it for the positives. Overpriced (wayyy!) and small portions, skimpy on cheese (I had the Calzone and it was mostly marinara sauce and raw veggies inside--really pretty awful). Chicken Piccata was $19, and chicken was flavorless--alfredo was floury. The $21 Baked ravioli with shrimp, again was smothered in red sauce and only had five small ravioli with little to make it anything beyond amateur chefish. The "jumbo" stuffed mushrooms were each about an inch wide, and had about 1/2 teaspoon of stuffing. I was appalled at this meal, and will never return to or suggest this restaurant. The people who gave good reviews have probably not had good italian food. The Macaroni Grill happy hour food was far superior to this and was about $12 total.

This last weekend, my girlfriend and I went to Portland to see Cirque Du Soleil (awesome show, by the way), and got a little lost with our directions. We wound up turning around right next to this place. Girlfriend suggested we should try it out, and Im glad we did. She got the Chicken Picatta, and I got the Baked Ravioli with Prawns and Sasuage. Both dishes were very well prepared, had more food than expected, and tasted wonderfully! It would have been much better if we had had time to wash it down with a shared bottle of wine. The service was more than decent and friendly, and they helped us find our way to the Cirque. We will be coming to Caro Amico when we visit Portland again, I am sure of it!

Best Pizza in town. The guy bartender could use a personality, but hes good enough..I guess. The place is a old skool...and I mean...it could use some updating as far as mood lighting and carpet, etc. It is not exactly the most trendy place, but frankly...the pizza crust is what I would get in my hometown pizzeria in Chicago. TOP Notch. I know pizza and I know most the pizza in this town blows and most of it is trying to be NY style. This is Chicago thin crust style. amazing place. Great prices. The Ceaser Salad tastes like its right out of the bottle tthough...

The food is actually 4.5 stars but the environment is 2 stars. Obnoxiously loud and disturbing. If we wanted that type of setting we wouldve went to The Old Spaghetti Factory or Olive Garden. We asked the owner if we could sit on the upstairs dining area where its quiet. Ofcourse, that was too inconvenient for them. Couldnt even have a quiet conversation with my Wife over everybody screaming in there. Probably wont come back.

In the year that Ive lived here, this is the worst restaurant Ive visited. I had the vegetarian manicotti and the veggies were undercooked and many were obviously straight out of a can. My companions dishes were more tolerable, but with all of the great restaurants in Portland, why settle for below average?

I have yet to have better Italian than here! My wife and I have enjoyed our dinner at Caro Amico on many occasions, and would certainly recommend this restaurant for finer Italian dinners. The bread they serve with their dinners is superb!

Food is awesome. Location convenient to downtown. First time we went (sitting outside) service was great; second time (inside) not-so-much (but there was a big table occupying most of our servers time-- good on the mandatory 18% tip).

Live close by on View Pt Terrace so we visit Caro Amico often. Love their apps, pizzas (margherita pizza is fantastic) and create your own pastas. Service is really good too. In the summertime, be sure to find a table on their deck.

I ate there for the first time over year ago and it was delicious. Tonight, however, our party of 6 was denied service byt he owner due to understaffing and no place to seat us. We got there just before 7pm on a Tuesday.

I prefer the pizza at Caro Amico to the pizza at Pazzo Ristorante. Caro Amico makes a better crust (very unique and delicious) and has a better balance of ingredients and more friendly service.

Great food and atmosphere. Its Italian food, its not fancy, small plate stuff. Its pasta, pizza, picatta, parmesan, and other delicious dishes that start with "p". Eat there. Drink there.

The food has been quite good. My only complaint is that the salads seem slightly over priced. I havent eaten in the restaurant, but it seems nice when walking through to pick up orders.

I ordered to-go from this establishment and got the worst food poisoning Ive ever gotten in my life. Unless you feel like being sick the whole night and day, I would not recommend.

Excellent food. One of the oldest privately owned restaurants in Portland. The owner Elsie is usually present and says hi, making sure youre enjoying yourself.

The food was great, but just a tad pricy. My experience was just ok on Valentines day. But I will chalk it up to an overly busy night and would try it again.

A Portland institution and pizza pioneer. Food is your standard red sauce restaurant but the history and the ambience are standout.

For less money try Olive Garden or Pizza hut.
