This is the second time in my life Ive ever not eaten food Ive ordered. Half of my meal is in the trash right now. Im shocked and confused at how there could be other reviews that say the food is good. Perhaps I went too close to closing time, or ordered the wrong thing. But Im here to say that my Sesame Chicken was disgusting! The chicken itself was actually good. But it was served atop a large (it comprised 70% of my meal) bed of crispy wanton noodles, covered in a sauce that I swear came straight off the grocery store shelf! The sauce was primarily CORN SYRUP, flavored with soy sauce. It wouldnt come out of my take home box, because it was stuck in the grooves on the bottom of the plastic container. It was just corn syrup! Combined with the tasteless crunchy noodles I stopped and thought to my self, this tastes just like soy sauce flavored rice crispy treats!! I dont rate a lot, but I just finished eating and wanted people to know how awful this particular dish was today. Also, I paid $10.50!! Which if the sauce HAD been okay, it would have still been a good bit overpriced, considering I got about a 5 oz serving of chicken and a whole box full of cheap crispy noodles/wontons. $10.50 for corn syrup= huge rip off. I also got an order of BBQ Pork (appetizer), not bad and not good either (a bit overpriced), and I got a side of fried rice for $7.99. The rice wasnt bad, but it was a bit dry; I normally wouldnt complain about the mediocre rices taste or price if my main course had been good, but it was awful. Now Im left with a 24 dollar meal (which is a lot for me) that I hoped leftovers would last at least another meal or two and half of it is in the trash. It was my first visit, and I will never go back. Im a fan of quality, authentic Chinese cuisine AND cheap all you can eat junk, but this was a whole different level. It was inedible!!

Consistantly good. Portland is a town that loves its Thai/Vietnamese/Cambodian, etc, so after moving here it took quite a while to find good Chinese. Now, there are many kinds of Chinese food, and Im pretty picky. I prefer the San Francisco style, which is not authentic Chinese from China but there you have it. Its what I like, and its what I finally found at August Moon after a long, sad search of almost a year. These are the flavors I grew up on as a kid and are therefore my comfort food: lo mein, fried rice, egg rolls, and especially egg drop soup. This is the best egg drop soup in town, hands down. Its flavorful, the perfect consistency (not too watery, not too thick) and doesnt have extra "stuff" in it to mess with the utter simplicity of the soup. Weve also been pleased to find white meat chicken in a number of dishes, something very unusual in Chinese takeout (if youre going to deep-fry it and cover it with sauce anyway, why use the more expensive white meat, right?) They are always fast with sit-down orders and with takeout, but I wouldnt recommend getting delivery during peak dinner hours on weekends--they dont have many drivers and if someone gets lost the wait time can be much longer than quoted. I have no idea what one of the other reviewers was saying about a rude waitress--most of the staff dont even have a firm grasp of the language (hard to be a smart aleck when you dont speak the language well), and Ive always found them perfectly courteous

There is nothing good, standard, decent, enjoyable or edible at this place! After having an awful meal here a couple of years ago, I had written it off completely. But today, laziness and a lapse of reasoning had me order from them. Other than pizza this place is the only other delivery option near me. Damn my laziness! I was hoping maybe the food has improved. So I ordered Scallion Pancakes, Sesame Beef and Vegetable Lo Mein. The pancakes were raw and doughy in the middle, with no flavor other than oil. The Sesame Beef was covered in a thick, tasteless, overbearingly sweet glaze - oh and there was about 10 sesame seeds sprinkled on top. But the dreadful meal did not end there, the Lo Mein was burnt! The noodles and cabbage had burn marks and the whole thing tasted smoky. I cant believe they would actually send this out to a customer! Ughhhh, I want my 28 bucks and calories back! Do yourself a favor, dont go here! It wont be better for you, they werent having an off day - they just suck!

Absolutely one of my favorites. I grew up in hong Kong, and developed a taste for REAL Chinese food, not the Americanized stuff. This is real, tasty food made by a Chinese cook who brought his recipes from China. You can safely ignore the ONLY report that claims this is "bad tasting Chinese," because what er this guys used to, it most certainly wasnt REAL Chinese. Hes probably a regular at Panda Express. : ) Nothings too hot. In this sense its toned down because REAL Chinese hot sauces, for example, are REALLY HOT! So, although simmered down for us Americans, it is never-the-less yummy, priced very fairly and having eaten there for over 13 years, I an guarantee that this quality is always consistent. I have never ordered "to go" but eat at the restaurant itself. Its a nice atmosphere, although the music sets "a" mood," you wont be writing home about this...this is also very Chinese. : ) If you want Chinese food in the downtown Portland area, dont miss on this one!

I normally dont take time to write reviews, but this one is merited for the horrific experience there. Two weekends ago, my partner and I visited August Moon (both allergic to gluten). We asked all the usual probing questions about ingredient content for the items we were interested in. We were told by the hostess/waitress our final selections were naturally gluten-free items... but clearly my entree was not. This woman may also be the owner, I am not sure, but she clearly was either misinformed or didnt care about our concerns. Within half an hour of leaving the restaurant I became violently ill and realized my meal must have contained gluten. I even missed time at work the following Monday and Tuesday due to the exposure. Anyone who has a gluten allergy knows how long the effects can last after a significant dose, and I am still not feeling 100% from this experience. Trust me, not worth it if you are craving Hunan. Go elsewhere.
