Normally I dont write reviews unless it is really good or really bad. For the Blue Moon the service was really great with an old 50S theme ... but the food was just subpar. My wife and I split a blue moon burger, fish and chips, and a piece of pie (we often share meals to taste the food at new places we try). The burger was the highlight ... the fish and the fries that came with the burger and fish and chips were greasy as if they were cooked in old oil. The cole slaw was old with a strong vinigar taste... my wife warned me just because of the color of the dish and translucency of the cabbage hut I has to try it anyway. The piece of lemon meringue pie was tasteless as if it had been frozen or old. Normally we dont do desert but my wife wanted some pie ... we almost ate at SherryS just for this. Instead we had a piece of lemon meringue that was either frozen at some point or just plain old (afterwards we had to stop elsewhere just to get another piece of pie to just get the taste out of our mouths). Sorry for the review ... we may just been there on the wrong night for food ... as it is obvious this place has had a good history.

Tonight, my wife, my grandson, and I had a fantastic experience at what will definitely be our new "go to" place. The Blue Moon Diner off the Tualatin Valley Highway near 198th ave, is incredible. It is one of the cleanest places in which we have had the pleasure of dining since moving to the area almost seven years ago. The owner Kuong Jae (please forgive the spelling if I am incorrect), and our server Rhonda could not have been more delightful. The service is excellent. Rhonda is an angel. The food was above par and the prices are more than reasonable. Of course, for an old fogie like me, the late forties, early fifties decor, and the piped in rock and roll were most enjoyable. I really cant say enough nice things about this place, and chances are if you try it, you will run into me and most of my family as we will absolutely return again and again. I am a retired Certified Executive Chef / Teacher with a lifetime in the business, and just short of forty years teaching Culinary Arts in Philadelphia, Pa. Take my word for it. You will be thrilled and no chance of being disappointed at the Blue Moon Diner.

I ate here as a kid and loved it. However, I went back over the summer with my family for lunch, and we werent just disappointed, we were disgusted. The meal was fine, but not as good as it used to be. Dessert was where the problem arose. We ordered a slice of chocolate cream pie, because it used to be my moms favorite. We shared the majority of the slice. When we got to the back crust, we discovered there was mold between the pie and crust. (My mother is allergic to penicillin- this wasnt just gross, it was dangerous.) We showed it to the hostess/waitress/cashier (she was the only one working the front) and she seemed completely indifferent. She was even resistant to take the pie off the bill, let alone giving us the med for free. Needless to say, we will not be returning.

Just moved to the area and had a chance to have a tasty breakfast here this morning. I had eggs Benedict with a fabulous hollandaise sauce and my husband had a bacon and cheese omelet. Great hashbrowns too, nice and crispy. We discovered after we ordered that they had a specials menu with some good prices that we will try the next time we are there. I am also interested to try the Thai food sometime. I know the combo seems weird but to me if the food is good I dont care if there are some weird combos. We chatted with the owner a bit and found that they have only been open for 6 months after it was closed for I guess a year. So if youve been before and not been in lately its worth checking out!

I was excited to try this place after driving by it so many times. It looks like an "old timey" diner that was transported here from 1954. As we entered we saw an older man behind the counter who didnt impress us with his greetings. We didnt get one at all. Turns out it was the "new" owner. We sat ourselves and were then greeted by a waitress. She took to our mid pretty well and was great at getting us going. There was not a lot of people there when we went so the service was fast. The food wasnt anything special. 100% diner food. We went for breakfast. We probably wont rush to go back, but we might to try some lunch or dinner items.

If you are hungry and other places are too busy then this place would be ok. The food was so-so and service was sub-par. With only 4 people in the restaurant I expected a little more attentive service. I only got one coffee refill before my food arrived and the waitress never returned after she dropped off my breakfast. If I needed anything (like more drinks, napkins or even my check) I was out of luck. The food was one step above fast food. I have had much better quality at a comparable price elsewhere. Its too bad that this place didnt work out. I was looking forward to finding a cute little place to take my family for regular breakfasts.

I think Ive found my new local dont-wanna-cook alternative. The meatloaf I had this evening was perfect. The mashed potatoes were obviously made from real potatoes and not flakes; there were still some lumps and they were tasty. The rolls are made on site and I overheard the waitress explain that the coffee there is ground fresh daily. My friend had the raisin french toast and he really swept his plate to finish every last crumb. The service was good and the atmosphere was pretty much vintage diner. I recommend this place for anyone who wants good food served pleasantly but with no pretension (pretty near negative pretentiousness.)

Monte Cristo sandwich: soggy, not deep fried, which is traditional. Chili Burger: not that pleasing to the palate. French Fries: no distinctive taste, salted with sea salt which was the best ingredient. The fries left us wondering what we had eaten. Overall, we did not enjoy our meals, which were overpriced! The service was slow. The Blue Moon had issued a GroupOn Coupon. Several customers were there because of the coupon, as we were. The staff didnt think ahead enough to have extra help on hand. After ordering it was 30 minutes before our food was served. We saw some customers leave without ordering due to the long wait.

Decided to try this place as its right down the street from my office. Met my wife there and ordered mozzarella sticks and we each got the patty melt. The food was ok, nothing special. The reason for the 1 star review is halfway through our meal my wife finds a short black hair swimming in the grease dripping out of the sandwich. I keep my calm and motion for the lady that helped us. I showed her the hair and asked for the check. She didnt apologize or anything. Just brought the bill and mumbled that she had discounted it. It was still $24 and some change, so Im not sure WHAT was discounted. Wont go there again.
