A colleague and I ordered lunch there today. This is my first and last time since the new ownership. The dish I ordered has curry on it, I asked for light curry. There is no curry what so ever. The customer service is AWFUL! I picked it up our order, I thought my colleague had ordered the same dish as me, as that is what we talked about. While paying, I say to the man behind the counter, please charge 1 singapore noodle and crab rangoon on my card and the other singapore noodle will be paid for in cash. He said, "you need second Singapore noodle? I said yes. Then he put my food on the counter and I see that my colleague ordered Lamb instead. I tell the man, oh Im sorry, I see he ordered the lamb instead of the Singapore noodle, its all good, we do not need the second singapore noodle. Take the lamb out of here," and I hand him a $20. Now he says "you pay for second Singapore noodle." I said, "No, I just told you within 30 seconds that I do not need it, I was wrong he ordered the lamb instead of the second singapore noodle. He got mad at me and said, "you already ordered the second one, and they are cooking it now." Apparently he ordered it through his register. I said, "Well please cancel it, I do not need it. I explained to him that I thought my colleague had ordered the noodle and he did not he ordered the lamb instead. It was less than 30 seconds that I realized it and told him. He insisted I pay for the second singapore noodle. I told him no. He kept insisting and was getting angrier with me. I finally looked at him and said, "Look I have my food, I have paid for it and I will never be back here again!!!" He said, "fine, dont come back." I thought Mr. we live in America not China and we and customer service can make or break a business. You my friend have a lot to learn about it! HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE!!! His lack of English is a hindrance to his communication skills. You DO NOT BULLY people into purchasing something. I miss Ann! She was the best!

Working in Kent, Ive been going to China City for years. Always found it to be convenient, no waits, never too crowded, decent menu selection, fair prices for what you get -- which was essentially run-of-the-mill mainstream Asian food, just a cut about the usual mediocre quality you find at strip mall Chinese food outlets. Heard that the management had changed, so tried the place the other day for the first time -- and its much more authentic. Around here, you have to go to Cleveland to come close to authentic -- so I think this is a great thing for the area. Not going to submit a big review here, since Ive only been to the new place for lunch so far -- but I will say the recent reviews, sadly, are pretty predictable. In a nutshell -- when most people in this part of the country seek out "ethnic food," they arent really looking for an authentic experience, so much as a packaged, Americanized version. So, I wasnt surprised to hear people saying "the place has changed! -- its not good anymore." More accurately, its not the same anymore -- in terms of good, its much better now. But if authentic Chinese isnt your thing, then China City wont be your place anymore. Im going back.

i previously gave china city a 5 star review. we went here for years, and the food was absolutely delicious. on 9.10.14 we went here excited for the food as usual, but i should have known something was different when my husband had to wait 20 minutes in the restaurant for our food after already calling in the order and waiting. i bit into the veggie eggroll and said, "oh...i think they changed this recipe. its not as good", but shrugged and continued on. my husband tried the wonton soup which he is normally a FANATIC for, but could immediately tell it was different too, and not in a good way. such a disappointment. i then opened up my fried rice, and just by looking at it, i could tell it was not going to be the fried rice i know and love. tried it, and nope. different. i called them to ask if they changed some recipes, and they said its a completely new restaurant, but they still have the same name. such a shame. wanted to warn others that the past good reviews will no longer be for this new management! such a let down, and we will not be going back :(

After seeing a lot of confusion about the quality of the food over the last few months, I can confirm that we went two nights ago, 12/20/2014, and it was as boss as can be; my food, as well as my girlfriends, was fresh out of the pan and nothing overcooked. My tofu was pan fried and they cooked it while avoiding that thick shell that usually comes when pan-frying tofu at too high of temperatures, which gets them mega points, as I havent had good CHINESE tofu in aaaaages. Heavily patrolling staff, immediate service, hell I ended up custom ordering something and didnt even notice, as the staff was crazy obliging and charged me as low as they could have, same as their low-end entrees, and my custom dish had 3 proteins in it, dinner portions and all. The sauce was heavily peppered, but had perfect balance, and could be described as perfectly spicy by someone of my palate. In a northeast Ohio suffering from Chinese-food atrophy, this place literally makes me want to eat their food every night.

Delicious, the right price, awesome dine-in experiences, awesome times on my couch with food and a lap top. I stopped in to pick up my take out, and--if youve been there, when you walk in and look directly left, there is a "private party" seating area-- in this area, a 10-15 person brass band had gathered, and was playing "When The Saints Go Marching In". Loud. This is a true story. Please order the Lo Mein, it is different than any other Lo Mein I have ever tasted. It is a thing of beauty. Veggie, chicken, whatever. Complete meal, right there. I havent lived in Kent for at least three years, but as I write this, I am Pavlovs Dog. You wont be disappointed. The other food is great, too, but the Lo Mein.. Perfect.

I went there last night with a friend of mine and we both marveled on how great and spot on the service and the food was. We ordered the dinner for two special for $22.95 which allowed you to get two entrees with a bowl of soup for each, a egg roll/spring roll for each (which came with a trio of sauces for you to try) and either steamed/fried rice. The Pepper Steak with onions and the Hunan Chicken were both magnificent. Along with the hot and sour soup, egg roll and fried rice. Now we both have had terrible experiences with other Asian-influenced cuisine, take-out and buffets or whatnot, but here at China City our eyes and taste buds were amazed. Definitely worth giving a 20% gratuity.

This is the real deal Szechuan cuisine. Owners also run the Szechuan Gourmet restaurant on E. 36th in Cleveland. If you want your basic generic chinese you can get it, but youd be missing the main reason to eat here. The Szechaun dishes are _very_ authentic and there are things on the menu that are difficult to find elsewhere, like Chengdu style fried rice and spicy dry pot. The cumin beef is also outstanding. I hope that the new owners do well. The service is quick and the food is true Szechaun style. I hope that Kent diners are able to appreciate the little gem they have in this "new" restaurant.
