I am a New Englander born and bred. I now live here in Ohio. We take our chowder very seriously in the northeast, well our seafood in general. It looks like a really cute place you have...but.....clam chowder is not clam chowder without plenty of potatoes in it. Lobster rolls are simply lobster, celery chopped, light mayo and a squirt of lemon....on a hot dog roll....thats all. Shrimp in a lobster roll is not found in Boston, or anywhere in the northeast. You want lots of shrimp then you visit the south...the Carolinas, Florida, etc. Everything looks really good...so I am not knocking any of the food or anything like that..How about something like a seafood chowder with lots of haddock, clams, scallops, lobster, crab and potatoes? How about fried clams and scallops! They are the best! We live on fried clams (and they are not clam strips....we are talking bellies and necks) and fried scallops with fries, and slaw. That would be awesome!!! Just a few words of encouragement and a wee lesson from a displaced native New Englander

Well, WOULD have been getting lunch, but they can keep it because: 1. When I called in my order, they put me on hold in the middle of the order. 2. When I arrived to pick up my food, I was totally ignored for 5 minutes. 3. My lunch was in a reused cardboard produce box. 4. When the bill seemed high, I asked about the buy 1 get 1 free special advertised on their website and was told that was dine in only (as not advertised on the website). 5. After politely expressing my irritation at both my wait and the inaccurately advertised lunch special, the same woman who both placed me on hold AND ignored me for 5 minutes when I arrived actually snapped at me for asking if I could have the special price anyway.

I was excited to try this trendy little place but the food was disappointing. The lobster bisque was thin and not very flavorful. It tasted like it came from a grocery store. The Savannahs Best had good shrimp that were nicely seared and seasoned but the scallops were just mediocre and the Cheddar grits were awful. The red pepper was just chopped and placed on top cold. Food was over priced. I felt like the place was trying to imitate fine dining with the portion sizes and the dishes offered but I did not enjoy my meal. I would not go back, there are plenty of other excellent little eateries in the area. Bummer.

Food, service, ambiance, decor this place has everything but ample parking. I love coming here and try to find any occasion to bring my family and friends along with me to enjoy the wonderful food at Chowder House Cafe. I particularly love the clam chowder no one around here has one that even comes close! The lobster bisque is delicious as well. I have not made it through the menu but any and everything I have tried so far as been delicious. Make sure to bring cash or check since they do not take cards and finding an ATM was difficult on our 1st visit. Enjoy!

May slightly of the beaten path but well the drive for us. we were a party of 4, started with the soup. I tried the french onion, loads of flavor!! The true test of a great chef is that food needs no extra seasoning, I ordered the 3 little pigs, they danced on my palete with delight! Others tried the chicken penne it was just right and spicy and savory. Amazing atmoshpere as we sat in the warm glowing light steaming thur beautiful stained glass windows! The service was also tops !! e will all be back for another adventure in fine dining soon!!!

The service was very poor. One night, we told our waitress we needed a few minutes to decide on drinks. She didnt come back for about 20 minutes, and would never look our direction so that we could get her attention. Our food took a good 30 minutes longer to come out after we ordered, and it was room temperature. They serve smaller portions, and it is over-priced. The next time we went (couldnt use my groupon on a holiday the first time), the restaurant was empty besides my girlfriend, me, and another table. Again, slow service.

The Clam Chowder was more like a milky broth, it had no texture, hardly any clams, but there was some sand. This was not a good chowder and certainly not an authentic New England Chowder. I also had the Lobster Roll. There was absolutely no Lobster in the Lobster Roll, it was filled with a shrimp salad that was made with those tiny shrimp that look more like grubs than shrimp. There was absolutely NO Lobster. On a positive note, the Slaw was Excellent. I live six miles from the place, but will not go back.

Huge fan of this place! Chowder house is a hip little place with a wonderful artsy atmosphere! I feel like this place is known more so by word of mouth which is how I like it. Its a wonderful place for a first date or for a small birthday gathering. The lobster bisque and lobster salads are deliciouse. The mahi mahi salad is absoulutely wonderful. Its always wise to go with the chefs special of the evening.. its never a disipointment.

Well, food was decent but nothing special, soup was cold though. For what was ordered, service seemed a bit contrite to say the least and we observed other parties having same issue. Wait staff, at least the one in our area seemed to be bit rude...but since not from the area, maybe thats the way servers are here? Also, they only take cash or checks (really, who takes checks nowadays?) so make sure you bring $.

Love the place. Raising my review to 5 stars because food and service are consistently excellent. Come probably every other month. Great food, excellent service, neat atmosphere. Two things to note - they only accept cash and checks. Also they do not sell beer and wine, but you are allowed to bring in your own for a bottle charge. This actually keeps cost down, as most restaurants overcharge for adult beverages.

Very good food! I had the Pad Thai. It was perfect! The man had Et ou fee. My mom had the clam chowder. The little one ended up eating half of it! The small person had some noodles with the best Alfredo sauce I have had! Crab cakes were also delicious. The chef Jason was amazing and our waitress was very accommodating. Overall great experience. Delicious food, personable staff, and a laid back atmosphere.

Lobster bisque and clam chowder are both excellent - hard to choose sometimes. "Water to Table" is often an excellent choice. Twisted noodles, crab dip, and many other favorites. Ive never had anything I didnt like! Bring cash - credit cards are not accepted. I wish they served lunch too. Recently heard the "cork fee" was raised from $5 to $10 - boo, hiss!

First time, and I really enjoyed it. The clam chowder is amazing but be aware that it has a black pepper bite. I had stuffed grouper. Fish was fresh but youd do better without the stuffing, as it distracts from the fish, but that was my own fault. My wife had a seafood salad and loved it. Charming atmosphere and good service.

Since I could ride my bicycle, I have been getting cheeseburgers from Swensons north. Cheeseburger with everything, onion rings ad any milk shake you can think of. Life justs get better! If you are a first time Akron visitor, you have to experince the Swensons variety of burgers.
