I gave this restaurant a 4/5 because of his food is great; however, I think the success of his business depends on his ability to scale. Fu Kee could have been a 5 in my mind and the food is the best Chinese food in the area. As many of the other reviews state, it is a one man shop. Ive ordered food from here 2 other times; however, Ive been deterred from ordering on more occasions due to some issues with the service. He never answers the phone and for a take out restaurant, I find this problematic. I think the wait times could be reduced by simple delegation. I think he needs to hire someone for handling the front-end of his business. In fact, I wrote this review as I waited to put in my order! Although I doubt he reads these reviews, my hope is that he hires front of house staff soon. It would make for a vastly improved customer experience and increase his revenue/production.

So many people dont realize that the owner only picks up during peak hours if he knows who you are! He told me that he saves certain numbers in his phone for his "good customers." If you want an answer, talk to him a little and give him a small tip when you pick up, and you too can have the best Chinese food in Raleigh at any time. If you refuse to be decent, you dont deserve his creations, and if hes slammed, you will be ignored. This place is obviously not your average takeout Chinese shop, so it is silly to demand that he scales. He wont scale. This guy is a quirky self-reliant chef who knows people love his food. If you are too lazy or lame to be decent to him, then Ill gladly take your spot in line, and you can eat that generic slop down the road. Pro Tip: General tso chicken and sesame chicken are like asian ambrosia.

We have not visited this location in 2 years, but while in town tonight we ordered 2 chicken and broccolis and 2 shrimp fried rices. The owner (whom I remembered from prior visits) took our orders. I specifically requested no MSG in our food and the owner stated that he could not take the MSG out. Further he stated it was in all of his foods, especially foods with sauces. He seemed a bit agitated by our questions about the ingredients, so we left and opted not to patronized his restaurant. Although we appreciated his honesty, this was a very disappointing experience because of his unprofessional demeanor. Fukee Express ownership, get your act together. There are too many other Chinese restaurants which have way better service in the Raleigh area. You have just lost a once dedicated customer.

It is one man who cooks, answers the phone and rings orders. I usually call ahead to avoid the wait. However the line was busy for 35 minutes so I decided to come in and place an order. After waiting for 30 minutes he came to the counter spoke to tne man in front of me took his order. Then skipped me and went to a gentleman behind me and got his order. I had to say something for him to come back to me. Then he said you should of called. I said I did but the line was busy. His response was you should of called earlier like 4pm. By the way it is 6:34pm. He then said 35 minutes; didnt take my order and moved onto the next person. Needless to say I walked out! I have eaten here before and know the food isnt that great to stand this. Wil never ever come back again.

Sadly, I will no longer be coming here as this business owner fails to realize with no staff you have no business. Not answering the phone because you have 5 orders? Then telling your customers that? Hire 2 employees. A chef and someone to greet customers and answer the phone. Im sorry but theres no way this is quality meat when the owner doesnt understand that he cant run the entire shop and have a large customer base. This place would 10x the business with the right capacity. It never will though. Due to these reasons I decided not to tip and he barked at me that I have a brand new Lexus and asked me if I was rich as I walked out of the door. The reality is, cash flow would super positive if you could handle 100 orders per night.

We just tried Fu Kee express for the first time and are in love. We showed up during a busy time of the night and saw the owner, Mike, hard at work in the back. He came up quickly and took our order and had the food to us within 20 minutes. After trying 3 other takeout Chinese restaurants in the area we finally discovered this wonderful place. Mike did an amazing job with our food and it has been the best beef lo mein my husband and I have ever tasted. We look forward to going back soon to see Mike and enjoy some more great food!

The short of it, Its good food, but badly run business. The owner makes it hard as can be to order. He refuses to hire help (to answer the phone, run the front, or help cook) so now he has turned off his phone when he gets busy and demands you wait while he cooks the food (it takes 30 to 45 minutes). When I tried telling him I would come back he went nuts demanding I pre-pay. His food isnt that good, not like the soup guy on Seinfeld. Again food is good, but not worth the hassle.

Absolutely love this place. Its run by one person and out of all the Chinese restaurants, this is the only one that serves food similar to what I was used to up north. The food is never underdone or overdone and has always served myself, my husband and our friends with a smile. Every time weve come here at various times and days, service has never taken longer than what Ive encountered at other places with more hands in the three years I moved here. ~Forever customer.

The fact that only 1 guy runs it all just adds to it - the food is great & the service is just as good. I see people below complaining about it only being 1 person - he is the owner - its how he wants it to be. He is doing just fine without the 1-2 customers that dont want to wait 15-20 minutes for their food. Im sad that Ill be moving away from the area and wont be able to stop in for lunch anymore. Well worth the few extra minutes it takes to prepare.

(Based on service.) I love their food but I was VERY disappointed. I had a large order I wanted to place over the phone. When I called I asked if they delivered to see if that was an option. The gentleman who answered said "no" and hung up on me even as I was trying to say ok and place my order. Needless to say, I placed my order elsewhere. Great food, great service in person, very poor phone service. I hope this is corrected.

Its only one guy that runs the restaurant so it can sometimes take awhile (3 dishes took about 30 minutes) for food to get out. The food is very good and fresh. It has become my favorite take out Chinese. The guy that cooks and runs the place is very nice, funny, and easy to get along with. He is friendly right away and jokes around with all the customers as he is preparing the food. It makes for a fun time as you wait.
