Well Southern Living was impressed by Bouchon, but I have to differ with their opinion. Nothing electrifying about the atmosphere and decor of the French Bistro in the heart of downtown Asheville, as we came in through the plastic curtain, which is understandbly there to keep out the wind. It was a Wednesday night and all you can eat mussels was the special, I ordered the half size for an appetizer and after having the main course I had wished I stayed with the mussels, which were of excellent flavor. Unfortunately what made eating the mussels difficult was the opened back door that made us obviously aware that this where the garbage was kept with a suttle breeze blowing in to carry the stench to our table. The main course, steak with the Cognac sauce (steak au poivre) tasted like tough meat with Cracker Barrel gravy that was over peppered, along with soggy vegetables and squishy Brussel sprouts, just the way I hate them. My wife had the French onion soup, which was too salty to finish. The unimpressive specialty garlic french fries, had no hint of seasoning other than salt. At the end I was holding out hope for the dessert and ordered the crepe Suzzette, it seems that soggy was the theme for the night. Soggy crepes were then drenched again in more liqour to make it hardly eatable, perhaps I was supposed to drink it. The wines were exquisite and for me saved the meal, Chateau de la Ligne helped me immensey. Thanks to the French for importing the wine. If salt and soggy is French comfort and thats your mood, bon appetite.

I have been looking forwartd to eating at Bouchon for a long time. Tonite was an embarrassment beyond words. First of all, I was sitting under an airconditioning vent that dripped on me the entire time. Second, the trout was overcooked and brought to me on a plate with multiple chips all around the edges, They offered to recook which I accepted. After waiting for my meal to be reprepared I felt a bit upset so figured I would take it home. The waitress , a bit confused couldnt remember if shed offered another glass of wine so I nodded yes, thinking this could be an attempt to make up for some of the problems. But no, made no attempt to make it up to us. I ordered the dessert and spec ialty dessert drinks, because, after all we wanted to enjoy this supposedly wonderful dinner experience. I felt that the staff really was powerless over the strict rules of the owner, who seemed to point a finger at his customers. Rude and arrogant, this owner wrote us off like he was perfect and we were the problem!! I was really disappointed and made to feel like I was the problem. By the way, my 14 year old son was crying in embarrassment. I left a big tip because I felt sorry for the waitress who must work under such circumstance.

My son took me to Bouchon for my birthday. He got the all-u-can-eat mussels and I got the roasted chicken. His only complaint was that he got one mussel that was spoiled. He tried the Mediterranean, Le Bleu, and Thai preparations; I think he liked the Le Bleu best, but they were all very good. My roasted chicken was really wonderful. Agree with everyone else that the frites are delicious. I had the house red wine, it was very nice. The service was okay other than waiting on mussel reorders. Once you are served your initial full order of mussels with frites, then you continue ordering 1/2 orders. To cut down on wait time, place your next 1/2 order when they bring you a bowl. Very nice atmosphere, I didnt think the waitstaff was particularly snooty. Like most people, show a little warmth and maybe a smile & they return it. I remember seeing a reviewer here complain about not having been served enough bread, but we were initially given enough for 4 or 5, so not sure what happened with that patron. I highly recommend Bouchon . . and will try to save room for dessert next time!

Went on recommendation of friends, waited a very long time for main course of lamb of the day",braised neck of lamb, with vegetables that I presumed it would have been cooked with to produce a succulent and flavourful dish. The lamb was at least hot but completely lacked flavour, the vegtables, a few small carrots, lentils and a small number of almost raw potatoes, were lukewarm and appeared to have been added at the last moment - possibly from cans. The very nice waitress did at least offer to take it back and bring another dish but I had lost my appetite. My wife fed on a main dish of six ravioli in sauce. She said it was good but it was really starter size. Her salad was a disaster of tired floppy leaves and dried bits of bacon with very little dressing. My dessert of creme brulee was OK but my wifes bread pudding looked and tasted like a lump of dough. We must regretfully add this restaurant to our growing list of disappointing Asheville restaurants.

Step in off the crowded, besmogged streets of Asheville, North Carolina, and enter a tiny corner of France. Meet helpful waiters and waitresses, who are more than happy to put patrons above themselves or the restaurant if you are dissatisfied. Taste beautiful dishes filled with positively mouth watering foods whose recipes were drawn straight from the chefs in France, and tweaked to provide your tongue with the best tastes available. Visit restrooms kept spotless by the staff, and well stocked with paper products. The whole restaurant is well maintained, and there is a pleasant /lack/ of the greasy smell most restaurants keep lurking around. Their air is clean, and filled with the wonderful smell of cooking foods. Overall Id say that this was well worth the experience, and I find myself wishing that Bouchon could be found on one of my town streets, rather than here in Asheville. Thank you Bouchon for the AWESOME experience. :-)

A beautiful, long-standing Asheville standard. French cuisine without the high prices nor the condescension we love from the French. French "comfort food" within a concise but well-crafted menu. Consistently superb. A full wine list designed to offer choice by the bottle or by the glass. But, unlike most all their peers the prices vary to include modest yet tasty selections. Truly one of our favorite restaurants in town for years. The $18 sparkling is wonderful with Hectors hot escargot. It is hard to go wrong with any of the menu items, but we dearly love the eponymous Steak Bouchon tender and served as medallions with a delightful sauce. The staff prides itself on "southern courtesy" and we have never been treated less than family. You cant go wrong here...

The food here was certainly good, I very much enjoyed my meal. Im giving the place 3 stars because, to me, service is nearly as important as the food. We went a few weeks ago on a busy night, and our meal took around 2 hours to come out. At one point the server admitted that she had forgotten to enter our order. I definitely understand that mistakes happen, however in the 2 restaurants in which Ive worked, we would try to make things right for a guest when a mistake was made, especially one that prolonged their wait time by a large amount. I dont think we needed to have the whole meal comped or anything, but a free round of drinks, or a percentage off, or free dessert would have gone a long way towards settling the issue. Instead we were charged full price.
