Arrived with reservation 5pm friday. Open table reservation warned there would be a 30 dollar charge per person for any cancelations less than 24 hours in advance - never ever heard of that before and Ive been around. Figured I should thus have very high expectations because that is a very strong "how do you do" statement. So we were the first and the hostess barely met our eyes and said they needed more time to get ready. Since she didnt offer a seat anywhere we stood outside a while longer till we thought we should go in. I like a lot friendlier greeting than that but maybe she is just young and untrained. For the record the place was never more v than 60% full throughout our early meal. So I dont know what that cancel charge could be about. The prix fine menu seemed like a good value and included many items from the regular menu. Wine by the glass was $11-15. 1 I thought I ordered the $11 Bordeaux but at cane up as a $15.00 something else. It wasnt worth arguing about so we left it alone. Had the scallop ceviche very nice and my friend had the lentil soup which was flavored excellently. I paid a $5 markup for the scallops over the prix fixe. I chose the steak tips with spinach and grilled red onions and fries. Finally done and the meat was flavored beautifully. I had asked for medium rare but there was nothing pink or red in the meat so it was a little over cooked and dry but still the flavoring was nice. My friend had a vegetable and pasta dish featuring funghi mushroom type vegetable which was also flavor nicely. I paid a $5 markup for the steak over the prix fixe. The profiteroles were included and they were perfect in every way. My friend had a plate of biscotti which she really enjoyed. The waiter was professional and sweet. The atmosphere may have been the best part. Its an old home with wood beams and the feeling of a living room dining room sort of set up. There was a nice bunch of people eating and a comfortable sound level. It just wasnt spectacular. I might have expected spectacular based on all the buzz so maybe my expectations were too high. The food just didnt amaze me. But the atmosphere was really nice. For example the North Fork Table is similar in some ways, in atmosphere and offerings, but that food is spectacular I think.

05/02/16: Wow! Wasnt expecting such a fantastic Lobster Bouillabaisse! When Chef Terry mentioned it, it sounded a must try. It was worth it! This place is quaint, staff attentive, wonderful ambiance, and the meal for the evening was exceptional. As a side note, there is a lower market in development, but you can still shop there. Also, some outdoor cooking in ways of a food truck will be coming in the near future. Highly suggest trying Chef Terrys Vine Street Cafe once and decide for yourself. Be sure to have wonderful company with you to share the delightful dishes.

Limited, not especially creative, choices, but most very well prepared. On our most recent visit, delicious butternut squash soup and chicken, very good biscotti, but bland, under-seasoned gargamelli. Plain, roadhouse style decor, with too many hard surfaces (noisy when busy; the back room is quieter). In some areas dimly lit -- we sometimes need a flashlight to read the menu, and I once left too small a tip because I misread the bill. Very cold on a winter night. Service varies in our experience, but generally friendly

$35.00 for a simple piece of Halibut. $9.00 for a basic salad (costs go up from here). A drink costs $10.00. A glass of Pinot Grigio wine costs $9.00. A glass of Sambuca costs $9.00. $9.00 for a simple dessert Good food, but unreasonable prices. I like good food, but I do not like being overcharged. It is not like this restaurant has Park Avenue (NYC) rent to pay. They have no major overhead at all. In short, Vine Street Cafe needs to lower their prices.

This restaurant is mediocre at best. Extremely overpriced. No real consistency (i.e., sometimes the duck is good, sometimes its not good at all, etc.). Not the best ambiance either. For Shelter Island (which is basically an island of "hillbillies"), Im not surprised that many of these reviewers think Vine Street is a great restaurant. Theyd be impressed with McDonalds if it was camoflaged with expensive prices and fancy forks and knives.

Service was good however prices are way over the top for what we received ordered (2) fish dishes they were very dry and bland. Chicken breast was dried out as well. Mussels were good. Would we go back? No

Top notch restaurant in the East Hampton - Shelter Island area. Worth the trip. Pefect in every way, but definitely a premium for the very high end food and beverage. $ bill yall. :)

Not inexpensive but one of, if not the, best eatery on the island. Weve only been several times but have always experienced excellent food with service that matched the expectations.
