On a house-hunting trip to Red Hook we decided to stop for an early dinner here based on the wonderful reviews. The waitress was great, the diner itself was adorable (but the womens bathroom toilet was clogged) and four of our meals were good except for my 8 year old daughters Mac & Cheese (that the waitress told us was the last of the lot left over from lunch). It was a bowl of glutinous, smelly, bright-orange glop that tasted like bacon. I explained this very nicely to the waitress and asked for a grilled cheese instead. She smilingly brought it out in less than two minutes and apologized. When it came time to pay the bill both the Mac & Cheese and grilled cheese were on it. The waitress said the manager wouldnt let her credit it ($9.50 a bowl!!!). Of course I very nicely asked the manager why and she proceeded to be snotty as heck, tell us we were credited for a salad bar (have NO idea what she was talking about) and that we were more than taken care of. She said she had no reason to credit us for the Mac & Cheese just because my daughter didnt like it and that it wasnt the bottom of the pan, in fact they were going to save it for tomorrow. She went on and on about how unreasonable I was being, all in a defensive and very rude tone in front of the entire diner. I have never in all my adult life been talked to as a customer like that. She made no attempt to apologize for the nasty glop, made no attempt to treat me like a customer she wished to retain, made no attempt to be polite. All I wanted was an apology for the icky food, a free replacement (the grilled cheese was only $3.50), a smile and "please come again and let us show you how we really do it" type thing. Instead I got customer service from hell. We will never go back there. Its unfortunate because we are moving there in June and my family of six love diner food. Poor customer service strikes again . . . .

Went here based on all the reviews.... we had a terrible experience! We got there at 11:30am my husband, myself and 3 kids. You would think we walked in with a dozen people. We had to wait 20 minutes to be seated, it took another 10+ for the waitress to come over and take our drink order, another 10 to bring the drinks when she finally came to take our order she said they were no longer making pancakes or French toast, exactly what we were ordering! Apparently they stop at noon. Had they sat us in a timely manner or even took our order we would have had plenty of time! The worse part... the people that came in after but were seated first had pancakes! The food we ordered was nothing special, not even cooked well. They advertise bottomless coffee... my husband got one cup asked for a refill twice, never got one. The service was terrible, food mediocre at best. Oh and the highchair was disgusting! I was stuck holding my 9 month old the entire meal. I just dont know how they have such good reviews! Extremely disappointed, will not be going back!

If you get a speeding ticket on the Taconic & have to appear at Milan Town Court, soothe your soul afterwards at Historic Village Diner. Never have I thought the best part of my breakfast would be the toast. The main attraction was my omelette of course, but everything was cooked to perfection. The staff are super friendly & take time to make sure youre satisfied. If I lived in town, Id be here all the time...its the local greasy spoon with A+ presentation and service.

Really amazing diner. It does everything right they need to do right. The food is affordable and they get the orders right every time, the staff know what theyre doing well and can deal well even with long complicated college student orders. The only flaw is that theyre a cash only establishment. Which is too bad, but knowing it walking in you should be fine.

Cant beat the classic hometown atmosphere. The menu is familiar and the food is good. The staff knows all the regulars and makes a newcomer feel like one. Nothing exceptional here, and nothing to complain about. For this kind of place, thats exactly what one expects -- and thats 5 stars.

Stopped here before heading to the Rhinebeck Aerodome.. Our waitress was super sweet and attentive. The chicken salad club was so good! They dont accept cards, but a Stewarts is conveniently located right next door. Problem solved. We enjoyed our lunch.

Have been going here since I was young, my dad would take me and my siblings before church every couple months and wed all get the 3 egg breakfast with homefries. Good food at a great price and you cant beat the old time feel.

Mediocre food, the high ratings are bewildering. The donut was a day stale. The corned beef has was the from-the-can stuff you would get at 100,000 places. There is nothing especially interesting on the menu,

The atmosphere hasnt changed since I was growing up in Red Hook. The inside is small and the back room, while ok, is a bit tight. The food is good, especially breakfast.

Food and service are great, especially their breakfast dishes (Im partial to their eggs benne). I dig the diner car vibe. Just make sure to bring cash - no CC.

Truly expansive menu with great prices and expedient staff. This is a DINER -- not an imitation diner, not a tourist trap diner. Great for hangover food.

The staff work as hard as possible and serve the best traditional diner food. While it can get incredibly busy on a Sunday morning, it feels like home.

Good diner fare. Its a bit claustrophobic but thats the beauty of it. The eggs and pancakes are good, but skip the home fries.

My favorite thing here is that there is no pasta section but you CAN order a side of spaghetti!

Good and cheap diner food. The atmosphere is homely. Isnt that why we go to a diner for?
