Id heard about Rossi for years, even before I got really hardcore into Italian food. This place is an absolute institution in Poughkeepsie; think Patsys in East Harlem, where cars are allowed to double park in front without police trouble. Its located on a mostly nondescript corner right off the Mid-Hudson Bridge, in what still is to some degree an Italian area. Coming in, the place smelled great and there was a line for sandwiches from the door all the way to the back. After waiting about 20 minutes, I asked for two sandwiches: one for me and one for my dad to both eat the next day. After another 10 minutes waiting for the sandwich to be made and pressed, I paid about $10 per sandwich (theyre big) and was on my way to check out some other Italian shops nearby. One sandwich was their rosemary grilled chicken with fresh mozzarella and pesto, and the other was their roast pork with herb mayo, fresh mozzarella, and roasted red peppers. The former I got based on the reviews here, and the latter the counterman recommended. The grilled chicken was a great sandwich. In particular I loved the bread; it was fresh, slightly salty, and fluffy and crisp at once. The chicken was a smaller portion, but it was tender and not overboard on the rosemary. The fresh mozzarella didnt keep great but was good otherwise, and the pesto was applied sparingly so that it contributed flavor but didnt dominate the other ingredients. Why only 3 stars, do you ask? The roasted pork was very disappointing. It was chunks of fatty pork, which were not tasty at all. Perhaps this is something that must be eaten fresh? Either way, the combo that the counterman recommended was pretty terrible. The mayo and peppers were a poor contrast, and the mozzarella was lost in the application. I wouldnt think these two sandwiches were from the same place, except for the bread. But even that couldnt save the sandwich; we ended up tossing it and splitting the chicken. I may come back for the chicken next time Im around Poughkeepsie, but I dont think Ill be too adventurous otherwise.

The first time that I went to Rossis, I was disapppointed by the service, but I liked my sandwich, and as a new resident of the neighborhood, I knew that I would be back. I am glad that I did go back. With every visit, I try something different, and everything has been incredibly good. The service has been great, as well. The staff handles a very large volume of business with surprising efficiency. If you go at peak hours and the line reaches to the door, dont be discouraged - it wont be long before youve gotten your order. Your patience will be rewarded. Theres a reason for the long lines - theyre the best place in town for take-out food and everyone knows it.

A hidden gem in Poughkeepsie. This place is a great Italian Deli, with great imported meats and cheeses. Far and away the best sandwiches in the Mid-Hudson area. Their lunch plates are also wonderful. They are busy for good reason, and well worth the wait. The quality here is on par with the best of Little Italy and Arthur Ave area in NYC. PS: Dont be put off by the long line at lunch hours; It moves faster than you might think. Oh, I forgot to mention their stuffed breads. Cant overlook them, they are very special. Would give this joint six stars if I could.

If in doubt, go here! You wont be disappointed. As an ex NYC transplant this place is every bit the classic Italian deli. The food is incredible, portions on the sandwiches are huge. Try the roasted eggplant and sun-dried tomato with the chunky olive tapinade. Or for that matter try any of the sandwiches. The price to pay for this great food is at least a 30+ minute wait in line. Dont bother if your in a rush. If your not in a rush the 30 minute line goes fast just taking in the sight and smell of their awesome food.

I love Rossis not only for the incredible food, but also for the authentic ingredients and groceries stocked on the shelves, and the true Italian family kitchen atmosphere. The first time I walked into Rossis I felt as if I had walked back into my own house, which is everything a rositcceria should be. If you like fast food and receiving a half-assed sandwich in five minutes, do not show up at Rossis during your lunch break. There is a bit of a wait, for good reason. Well worth every minute, for every bite!

My girlfriend and I stopped in early one morning. They were quite busy, but we were willing to wait. When the man behind the counter finished helping the others, we were the only ones left in there. He dawdled before acknowledging us. He then said he would be right back to help us. By the time he got back, another person had entered the deli. The man came back and ignored us to start taking her order. We put our drinks away and left.

I try to go here at least 3-4 times a month, Id love to get there even more if my schedule allowed. They have a great atmosphere, exactly what you would want from a family owned deli. Fantastic sandwiches, and exquisite products, some you cant find anywhere else locally. I am a vegetarian by NO means, the Mediterranean sandwich has me convinced that vegetarians eat great too, phenomenal sandwich!!!

Everyone at Rossis is kind and accomodating. The food, especially the Tom/Basil/Mozz panini with pesto, is...I am without words. It is a delight. I needed cheese for a wine and cheese party and they handed me a sample over the counter, on a large knife, of an outstanding smoked gouda. I bought it on the spot. Also, as we love our coffee at my office, they make a great espresso.

Really great family-owned place. Ingredients are outstanding, Rossi family are very nice people with a strong connection to the local community. I recommend the roast beef panini. Dont listen to people tell you the prices are too high, the prices are fine given the portion sizes and the quality of the food. Only downside is the line can be very long if you go from noon-2pm.

Somewhat off the beaten path this is a true Italian deli reminiscent of those you find in the city. They have a huge menu with both ready made foods, hot and cold and then things that are made upon request. They are a little more expensive than other places but the food quality is superb and service is always friendly. I wish they had umbrella on the tables outside though.

Staff is super social and seem to be very exited to serve you. I had a blast just ordering my food, super helpful. I would say this place is a little pricey but honestly you get so much for your money, I wasnt even able to finish my sandwich thats how much! Wonderful place totally what a deli should be!

Great food, people are nice, but the service is awful. Half of the time I go my order is wrong. I waited 45 minutes today for a sandwich that wasnt what I ordered as people pass me in line that I was there before. NO priority to the line, service is a free for all

First of all Im 40 Ive been eating their since I was in high school. It is hands down the best place to eat in New York State. They are great people, the food is outstanding. They are legit, Ive never been to Italy, but I guarantee you its the same or better.
