I was really psyched about going here because I hadnt gone in years and the first time I had a pretty decent time - but it was just the two of us. I called down there the morning of before we had planned on going in there with a table of six. The woman on the phone said that they couldnt book a reservation until 8:30. We wanted to eat at 7 so she said to just come down and wait on line. She told me it would be about 20 minutes at that time of night. That was fine. It was a plan. We arrived at 7:00 and they told us about 20 minutes. Great, everything was going as planned. They said we could wait at the bar until our table was ready. This is where things went terribly wrong. We were at the bar ordering drinks and it was going ok - until 30 minutes had passed. We checked in and they said "just a few more minutes". We continued to wait at the bar until my wife got annoyed at the 1 HOUR and 20 MINUTE mark. Whats even more frustrating is that they had us preorder or they wouldnt seat us. WTAF? So we did but it didnt sit well. At that point, a group of 7 walked in and was seated immediately. My buddys wife lost it. She went up to the guy and asked him about it. He said, "Theyre regulars so we seat them first". Are you kidding me????? Weve been waiting for 1.5 hours and you pull that? You can be sure we wont ever be regulars.... Thats when we cleared our tab of 8 12oz bottles of beer. The tab? $80. What? For EIGHT beers. Korean beer is not that good. Dont kid yourselves. My wife was annoyed and she walked across the street to another place and tried to get us a table there. Amazing. They had one coming up in 5 minutes. She called me to let me know to cancel our order and walk across the street. When I did MAGICALLY a table opened up at that very moment. They said they could seat us right there and then. I called her back and we went upstairs. The staff was very accommodating to us at that point since we were all in a bad mood. They comped us a bibimbap and brought out extra small plates. The woman taking care of our table kept coming over to my wife and apologizing in Korean (my wife was the only Korean in the crew so thats not weird). The bill came and it wasnt bad. $300 for 6 people. The food was tasty and the service once we got to the table was good so Ill give it two stars for that. Everyone else we dealt with, especially the weasly little man on the door seating people, deserve to be flogged. Keeping people waiting for an hour and a half for a table while you seat dozens of other people is absurd. If I would have known this I would have just made the reservation for 830 - which is when we were seated anyway. Completely mismanaged and unorganized. I wont be back - ever.

Wonjo is my go-to spot with coworkers for lunch at least once a week reason being the LARGE SELECTION of items on the menu, LARGE PORTIONS (can always ask for extra rice), abundance of banchan (side dishes can be replenished), and friendly service. I have ordered most of the items on the lunch mention excluding fried rice and porridge (who would order these items at a Korean restaurant?). My favorite items include (in Konglish from the Wonjo menu) + Jap Che (clear noodles with vegetables) - The japche at Wonjo has an unique taste different from other restaurants. This dish is a MUST HAVE for those who love japche. + BUDAE JJIGAE (spicy stew with pork, ham, spam, noodles, and other items) - This soup comes out steaming hot and stays hot until you close the lid on the portable fire. + DDA RO GUK BOP (spicy beef soup with clear noodles, and vegetables) + DDUK MANDOO GUK (soup with dumplings, rice cake, and clear noodles) + SON MANDOO GUK (hand-made dumpling soup) - NOTE special item not on the menu. + DAK DORI TANG (spicy chicken soup) + DDUKBAKI BULGOKI (beef stew with rice cake and noodles) - A hefty portion of meat is inside the stew. Tastes excellent mixed into the rice. + Sul Lung Tang (ox bone soup with beef and clear noodles) - Best to order this dish on a cold day or when you are sick. Honestly all the items on the lunch menu are delicious and worth trying. Note most of the dishes claim to be spicy, but are just mild in my opinion except for Dak Dori Tang which I found to be painfully spicy. I personally am not a fan of spicy food however I can tolerate all the dishes at Wonjo. + At the end of the meal, rice porridge and a refreshing ginger drink is served. - The restaurant is always packed at 1pm. There is sometimes a 5 - 10 minute wait. We order in line if that is the case and the food comes out when we are seated. - Dinner prices are quite pricey considering the portions are the same for lunch. Not once have I been disappointed in the 30+ occasions I have eaten here and will continue to be a loyal customer.

Worst Service EVER. I have been going to this restaurant since 2006 but havent been there in the last year. It is now called New Wonjo but new doesnt mean better. POSITIVE: we were lucky enough to be seated at our favorite window seat and the food was fantastic....when they remembered to bring some to the table. NEGATIVE: THE SERVICE WAS HORRIBLE. They brought our main course (BBQ) before the appetizer. We had to ask 3 different people (the host & 2 other servers) for an order of white rice and a refill on some of other items we ran out of during the meal and it took close to 30 minutes before we got anything and one of the items we asked for never even came. Our water wasnt refilled ONCE in 1.5 hrs and Im not even exaggerating. The restaurant was busy but not crazy packed like other times Ive been there so I couldnt figure out why we never saw the original server again once she took our order. No one even apologized for us having to wait for those food items. It was absolutely ridiculous. Ive waited tables in NYC before and was appalled at the level of service ineptitude. No customer should ever have to walk out of a restaurant after being made to drink only one glass of water during a meal. This used to be our favorite Korean BBQ place but we will now be looking for a new one. Very disappointed.

I had ever eat so bad Korea restaurant in my life,BBQ,seafood pancake, ginseng chicken soup, even Bibimbap were worst and service was bad, very rude。

THIS RESTAURANT IS HORRIBLE! DONT EVER GO. THEY USE ROTTEN INGREDIENTS! NYC was really cold and we were tired of walking. We were looking for something warm to eat and saw their sign for "SAHM GEH TAHNG" Right when we went in a waitress asked if we were eating bbq. We said no we wanted something with hot soup. They led us to the 2nd floor and sat us at the horrible place possible. (there was a door next to us where they were using to cool hot metal plate for bbq and wind was coming through the opened door) We asked why we cant sit other places where its warm and they said that was for bbq eaters. Later we saw that non-bbq eaters were sitting except they were whites. I wish that was the only bad thing about this restaurant. IT GETS WORSE. Korean ginseng in "Sam Geh Tahng" has lost its form and it was all mushy. Garlic slices were so black. chestnut was all mushy too and tasted like soft wood. Dates were in a jelly form that were all ripped apart. This piece of rotten food was $18.99. First they didnt know the exact price of the dish. Then they said its between $16 to $18. If they are only going to sell bbq, why did they put up the sign saying "Sahm Geh Tahng"?! Horrible service and Horrible food. DO NOT WASTE YOUR ENERGY AND MONEY HERE! THEY ARE THE WORST RESTAURANT EVER.
