My parents, my children, and I went to the Piccolo restaurant last week, and were incredibly disappointed... Our waitress was rude and unaccommodating from the moment we walked in. I had my two year old with me and looked for a high chair or booster seat for her and couldnt find any. And the waitress didnt come to offer us one until after wed been there for a long time (20 minute or more, Id say), when my little one fell out of the adult chair and got hurt. And she wasnt remotely topological, just snooty and seemed more annoyed than sorry. My father and I ordered the steak and greens sandwiches, and the bread was so hard, I could have probably broken a tooth on it. The greens tasted like canned or maybe frozen spinach, slightly doctored up... but definitely not what youd expect in an area with so much competition for good Utica greens. Did I mention the waitresss attitude and overall careless job? We made it through the meal, which was mediocre at best, and got our bill for nearly $100. My mom wanted to treat us and when she went to pay the bill, she noticed that the tip was added into the bill... NO WONDER THE WAITRESS WAS SO CRAPPY! She has no need to do her job well or be remotely polite, because she gets paid 18% regardless of the quality of her work. Mind you, we saw no sign warning us that the tip would be included, and we were not a very large party; just three adults and three children (very quiet and well-behaved children, I might add). My mom, who was in the restaurant business for YEARS (in fact, thats where she met my dad, who was a locally well-known and well-loved chef for many years) said, "Oh, I see you added in your own tip!" (With some sarcasm, as Im sure you, the reader, can imagine.) And then, to make matters worse, my mother then realized that the waitress also TAXED THE TIP. When my mom pointed out to her that youre not supposed to tax the tip, as the tax has already been added to the bill, the waitress, with her oh-so-snotty attitude simply replied, "Well, thats the way I always do it." Um... so that makes it right?!! In a nutshell, I was disappointed with the food and absolutely disgusted by the service. Ill never be going there again. And I would like to caution anyone else from doing so, either... especially if you have kids. The place is definitely not kid friendly. Or if you like giving tips based on performance... as it SHOULD be. And let me be clear, my family and I, having been involved in the restaurant business, and knowing how hard it can be, tip VERY well to those who deserve it. She did NOT deserve 18%. What she deserves is to get a job more suited to her talents and personality... whatever that might be.

Every year when the close for a weeks vacation they re-open with a different menu. We use to go there for the worlds best garlic wings. Then they stopped serving them and we stopped going. Dont sit at the table by the kitchen door. The waitresses keep bumping into you when they go by.

Great food, Friendly staff. The Pot Roast is wonderful. Time it right and youll feel the trains fly past. Kids love looking out the window at the trains.
