All of their awards and reviews are from the 70s and 80s. When my boyfriend and I walked in, it was like walking into an old cluttered barn. Their collection of junk (including a dusty paper mache cauliflower head in the window) was embarrassing. The menu was a difficult to read run-on list, which looked like it was formatted by a 6 year old, with long superfluous descriptions of the dishes. The three lines worth of description of the duck special was incredibly pretentious. It took an inordinate amount of time for our waiter to even take our order. Fortunately, our server was attentive after that, and quite nice. My potato soup was barely edible, with the consistency of baby food. My boyfriend ordered the carrot pasta, which came out in the form of spongey wheels which had no taste. I ordered the most expensive on the menu, the smoked duck breast, and the skin was sharp and hard. The duck came out covered in grapes, and it was accompanied with a rice-filled spring roll that looked (and probably tasted) like a duck turd. The best part of the evening was laughing about how terrible the experience was. We both left hungry and disappointed, knowing we could have gotten a better meal at a chain restaurant for 1/10th of the price.

We drove up from West point today and really had a fantastic lunch. We enjoyed both the historical building with all of its owners artifacts and historical pieces all over the place. The building itself is really unbelievable, living history. Our server was very professional and attentive without being overbearing. Our starter the pizzerette was fabulous as was the fritatta appetizer. Our salad and shared sirloin burger were extremely tasty. We will be back next time we are in the Hudson Valley from our home in Texas.

One looks for : Service, ambience, & really good food, and finds them all at John Novis gem of a restaurant nestled in the Catskills, and within easy drive of NYC. Delicate flavors, old-world Inn atmospheres, cozy spaces, & youthful service. All combine to please the senses, as well as the palate. A giant hurrah to one of our survivors, in an age when inequities have robbed many of our fine establishments. Recommend.

We pride ourselves on great food choices as we are spoiled by amazing restaurants here in the NYC area. We make Depuy Canal House our 1st choice every time we are making our way back to the city from country weekends. Food is always great and you never feel rushed out of the door. We love it! Oh and child friendly as well....

every time we have eaten there, it takes hours and hours of waiting, bread has arrived frozen, meals have arrived too late and not great. our high hopes were dashed one too many times. well still admire it from the outside, however, as we drive by and go elsewhere.

Really quaint and mood inspiring. Stopped for dessert and wine and we were not disappointed. Definitely want to try the dinner and the chefs table next time.
