Ive looked over some of the other reviews, and feel better about my low rating. The food quality is good. The food is consistent, and is pretty good. I might have rated them 4 stars for the food alone. Weve only ever ordered delivery from Metate, and nearly every order has had a problem. Usually something very small, which makes it worse, since I wouldnt want to call in such a small correction. Once I ordered a side of tortilla chips and they were missing from the order. They were for my kid so I actually made the driver drive back with just the tortilla chips. Most recently, I ordered a side of sour cream, and it was missing from the order. It was for me and I didnt want to make them drive back with a few tablespoons of sour cream. Otherwise, the food is pretty good. I order from here when my kid insists that we have to have Mexican food, otherwise I look for other options first.

I was just looking for a new Mexican place, and there was a Groupon for I app, 2 dinners, and 2 margaritas or Sangrias. for $29.00! Had to try it, and Im glad I did! In a little enclave in Riverdale, an unassuming store front, but nice and clean once inside. Small but it does have a full service bar, with 2-4-1 drinks from 4 to 7pm even on Saturdays. We started with the baked clams with spinach and carrots. Very nice. Then we each got Pork Chops, mine with a chipotle sauce, and my wifes with the green sauce. both very good; although mine was better. The Margaritas were very good. normally $8.00 I also tried the Sangria, good, not sweet. Well definatley go back, the server was very nice, the bathrooms were clean. Next time Ill try my go to Enchiladas.

The Spuyten Duyvil-Riverdale section of the Bronx needs a top-quality Mexican restaurant. Sad to say, the "Metate Authentic" at 3515 Johnson Ave. (235-236 Streets) does not fill the bill. The "great food" described by some reviewers was nowhere to be found. Grilled red snapper was undercooked, with slimy, off-tasting skin which had to be removed before even attempting to eat it. Chicken mole poblano, although with an interesting sauce, was inedibly rubbery. "Corn with poblano peppers" was mushy, with ordinary peppers. The slow and inattentive service reminded us of Mexico. A side of guacamole we ordered was never served. If the food and service here do not improve, this place is headed for oblivion.

Have been coming to this place since the opening. They always had good service and the food was absolutely great in the beginning. But, lately, especially in the last year or year and a half, the food quality started to change to worse, unfortunately. For example, before, salsa was home made, very tasty, but then changed to something that tasted like ketchup with some chopped onions. Churasco portion for dinner became significally smaller compared to before, fajitas used to be full of different vegetables but now comes only made of onion, peppers and maybe a little bit of mushrooms?!? I will not be going there anytime soon unless they bring back the good quality food from before :(

Will not be going back. It took 15 minutes just to get water. my friend and I ordered guacamole and the chips were stale. We had to ask for salsa and were given watery hunts tomato paste with chopped onions. It took a half hour to get our food and they hadnt yet given us utensils. We were never asked how anything was, but we were constantly being asked if they could clear things off the table before finishing. We asked for the check and it took 10 minutes to pay the bill. There were maybe 4 other tables, there was no reason the service should have been so slow and unprofessional.

An older man sitting at the table next to us, was completely drunk and started cursing at us and insulting us. Instead of asking him to leave, the staff just stood there. After the drunk mans wife managed to somewhat calm him down, one of the staff came to our table and said he was a loyal customer and therefore they didnt ask him to leave. We have been coming here for 2 years, what about our loyalty to the place? Never coming back here again.

Some of the worst Mexican food I have ever eaten in my life. I went simple and ordered both pork and chicken tacos. I couldnt tell which one was which. You would figure at a Mexican restaurant, they would deliver on something as basic as tacos. Terrible. Oh, they also charge you if you request a second basket of tortilla chips. Stingy with customers while serving tasteless food is not a good combination!

One of my favorite places to eat in and get takeout in the neighborhood. The food is great and so is the service. If you eat in, get the fajitas or the garlic shrimp. Brunch is a great alternative to the traditional offerings and they sell four kinds of mimosas for $2.50 each. Weve never had a problem with delivery. The food is fresh and hot every time and theyre on both GrubHub and Seamless.

Ive been here on several occasions and the staff is always professional and courteous. Its a decent size restaurant with little to no wait time which gives you an ample amount of time to enjoy your meal. They have a great happy hour selection and amazing appetizers while waiting for your entrée. Also, you may wanna check Groupon for their amazing deals on meals!!

Unexpected find. Big potions of good, apparently homestyle food, at low prices. Whats not to like. Its a small place, but doesnt need gimicks to pretend youre having Mexsican food. First time, I got takeout and was surprised that for $10 (lunch) I got 2 meals worth. The service is good and friendly, and youre in a comfortable setting.

I have been here a handful of times. The service is good, the drinks are better and the food is ok. Tonight I ordered the pork tamales and it was good. When my entree arrived, I moved the chip basket and I saw a small roach crawling at the table. They did not charge me. Needless to say, I lost my appetite.

This place is always warm and inviting! There is a relaxing, take-your-time kinda vibe that I appreciate in NYC! Also, I notice the positivity and professionalism of the individuals that work there--yesterday I tried the most delicious salmon w/asparagus w/chipotle lobster sauce. Thanks Daniel :)!

A lot of loud, rude, and obnoxious people come here and start arguing with other customers and try to pick fights. Dont like the ambiance at all. Staff is inattentive and food is so mediocre and expensive. Never coming back and I suggest to others to look for another place to eat at.

The staff are all really friendly. The food is delicious, I typically get the burrito or the fajitas, but tried the salmon the other day and it was served with this really delicious sauce. Best part is that the prices are very reasonable. My go-to when Im in Riverdale.

The scent as you walk in wasnt welcoming and didnt even smell like food. The guacamole and food were bland. I have never been to a Mexican restaurant that doesnt provide you with the mild to hot sauces for the food. We were very unhappy overall.

The place is not fancy but its nice and cozy, guacamole with chips not good choice as appetizer. Regular mojito is good but margarita not so good. Dinner is fantastic I ordered chicken burrito and it was delicious. I am going again for sure.
